Well, it won't be memory holed if it keeps getting brought up, and the media et al needs to keep bringing it up. When it is stopped being talked about, Trump and his band of morons will just pivot to something else and it'll all be quietly dropped.

As you say, this whole thing was a central tenet of MAGA and they were all in if it could be shown that the likes of Bill Clinton or Bill Gates or <insert a Democrat here> were on the manifests of Epstein's flight lists. But now it's "Oh those lists don't exist".

    Hmmmm…I wonder why that is.

In fairness, it's pretty much a win for Trunp.

Ukraine gets a new batch of weapons, US factories get more production orders, he keeps his promise of not spending any more US dollars on foreign assistance... other than idiots like MTG bleating about foreign involvement, where is the downside for him?

This was on table the day he walked into the whitehouse

Pity it took his slow brain 6 months to arrive at the obvious that Putin is not to be trusted

And even now he is still all over the place on his messaging sending contradictory signals

Would have been a win for him when they were first asking if they could do it to be fair. But better late than never.

It is also coming after Colby (supposedly) went on a solo run to block supplies. There remains a worrying lack of consistency or logic in their approach, which is counterproductive to say the least.

Given Trump's history, I would say it's not unlikely that he renegs in a month or two.

The adrenachrome and pizza gate stories are just that, nonsense, but that's the point as I see, most people would roll their eyes and stop listening at that point,

But what is much more believable is, epstien has links to mossad and between them set up a honey trap effort to get dirt on rich and powerful people to use against them when it suited them. Totally believable, and a bit more that just rich people do horrible stuff.

US inflation climbed to 2.7% in June, surpassing expectations and signalling that Donald Trump’s tariffs are hitting prices

    Have they blamed Biden yet?

Fair point , which is why Trumps usual deflection tactics don't seem to be working here.

There is a thread of validity to the "Epstein list" story and Team Trump have been shouting about it endlessly for years , right up to his current administration only a few months ago claiming it was "on their desk for review" , so to now claim that it doesn't exist and there's nothing to see just isn't going to fly.

The hard core MAGAs view Trump as the champion of the regular guy and the man to "Smash the Elites and the Deep State".

His current deflections and attempts to "move on" are exactly the kind "Deep state" behaviour they hate..

About the only thing that could f*ck it up would be Trump himself or the DOGE inspired finance-cutbacks. With NATO to provide the funding, nothing should go wrong barring Russia doing something to stop the arrival in Europe of the batteries. I noted today mention of other armaments being included in the delivery list to Ukraine.

Yeah but if you criticise you’re labelled a communist, your citizenship removed and shipped off to El Salvador 😀

So are we supposed to now applaud Trump for ending up where he should have been three years ago and certainly 6 months ago? Is this his big plan on how to end the war on day 1? To provide weapons to Ukraine, the exact same as Biden did? That aiding the defence of Ukraine is actually the right thing to do?

This is after yet another flip-flop from Trump. What happened to his stance that it was all Zelenskys fault and that the US were not going to pick sides or get involved?

Yet again Trump has been shown to be completely wrong on almost everything.

don't think there ever was anything loony about Tucker, he just had to tow the line at Fox.

Any theories on why Epstein killed himself?

He was on a suicide watch it seems and this was not the first time he had tried it.

I think his brother has said he doesn't think he did kill himself.

    ICE out of control again:

Irish tourist jailed by Ice for months after overstaying US visit by three days: ‘Nobody is safe’

He had planned to return to Ireland in December, but was briefly unable to fly due to a health issue, his medical records show. He was only three days overdue to leave the US when an encounter with police landed him in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) custody.

Is that the same lad who got into a domestic and falsely imprisoned his wife?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,674 ✭✭✭Patrick2010

Lucky if he didn't end up in Alligator Alcatraz, apparently they have 500 held there in horrendous conditions for nothing more than traffic offences while being in America without a valid visa

Don't worry he will blame Powell for checks notes ..... Keeping rates high .... Because he is so wrong he thinks that high rates lead to high inflation

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,676 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

A quick read indicates he had some kind of an episode. So it would be pretty questionable to lock up a man in the US with no communication with his family if he's mentally unwell. Arranging him getting back to Ireland so he can get any medical attention that he needs would strike me as far more important.

It's also pretty clear from the article that his girlfriend is concerned about his mental well being. So diminishing something that we have limited knowledge isn't remotely appropriate.

"Each detainee was given one toilet paper roll a week"

Surely one is sufficient per week?

Being pedantic, as already remarked on by others it is worse than Biden because others in NATO (not the US, largest economy in the org.) will pay for all of it!

The US is just the seller. The value ($10bn?) also seems like it could be covering considerably less weapons than one of the Biden admin. US military aid packages.

He could have announced something like this months ago too, at the start of opening his negotiations with Russia so why the hemming and hawing, the halting of aid to Ukraine and diplomatic nastiness towards its govt., the spreading of Russian lies about the war + cosying up to Putin in the meantime?

All he did by that was egg on the Russians and also signal hard to backers in China, NK, Iran etc. that a lot of Western support of Ukraine is on the clock here, soon to end and the war may be "winnable" + if they continue to back Putin now, or even increase support, they will gain from it in future.

The secondary US sanctions threats against countries trading with Russia, I'll believe that when I see it and 50 days is an absolute eternity for the gadfly US government right now.

You shouldn't need to ration your toilet paper. To use an example, I have Crohn's disease, if I were in a high stress scenario then a single roll of toilet paper is not enough. Honestly you'd be justifying concentration camps in general I suspect.

He might have avoided immigration consequences, if it weren’t for an ill-timed law enforcement encounter.

Thomas and his girlfriend, Malone, were visiting her family in Savannah, Georgia, when Thomas suffered a mental health episode, he and Malone recalled. The two had a conflict in their hotel room and someone overheard it and called the police, they said.

Malone, who requested to use her middle name to protect her boyfriend’s identity, said she was hoping officers would get him treatment and did not want to see him face criminal charges. But police took him to jail, accusing him of “falsely imprisoning” his girlfriend in the hotel room, a charge Malone said she did not support. He was soon released on bond, but instead of walking free, was picked up by US immigration authorities

It seems the police were called to a disturbance at the hotel room and deemed the situation serious enough to charge the Irish lad with holding his girlfriend against her will, and once he appeared in court he was flagged as overstaying.

Not quite exactly the same as Biden did. He got someone else to foot the $10bn bill.

Same with the NATO expenditure commitment. He got his 5% (Ok, 3.5+ a bit) out of the other countries eventually. From his perspective, and from the perspective of those who voted for him, it’s a win.

Should the US have kept providing weapons as Biden did? Many would say “yes”. But he campaigned on not spending money, and this helps achieve that. One may also ask why the idea of cash and carry (a WW2 concept) was not put forward before. I for one observed several months ago on Boards that an unwillingness to give aid as a Trump policy did not preclude simply buying the weapons from the US.

Maybe its just me but I get about 4 weeks out of a single roll, no rationing, anyways if they have to put this into an article about how nasty conditions are in jail then methinks they might be reaching a bit because most of the complaints I usually see sound here about prison is how handy they have it.

Must be hearing about Irish prisons then. US prisons are bad places, and Alligator Trumpcatraz appears really bad even at the US level. "Internment camp" seems apt:

if ice are going after the worst kind of people and gangs, why haven’t there been shootouts and street fighting. I’d say they have ak47s and ar 15s.

I see he’s paving the rose garden now. Getting rid of the grass, or getting ready for the ufc fight.

But what money does it save? Do you expect spending on the military to now decrease by 10bn this year? It's the same with NATO spending. It won't make 1c difference to anyone in the US.

Should the US continue to provide weapons to Ukraine? You cannot say no and yet continue to expect the US to provide weapons to Israel. And yet nothing is said about that.
