I had major issues with my wireless last year, similar to the issues you have. Speeds are fine for most of the day and then just went brutal for no obvious reason. I got the broadband engineer out and he checked the cable from the roof to the modem and when he unplugged it water was pissing out of it. The cable degraded and let water in and it was running down into the modem causing all the problems.

Check the cable in case waters getting into it and causing the issues, there the same type issues you have that I had. SSIPTV on the LG tv is the only free one I know of but you can buy a lifetime sub for most of them for around €10. I'll PM you a url I think has the Irish channels and a few UK ones.

When you say "putting this onto a playlist" - does that mean downloading an iptv app and putting that url into it?

    Thank you.

Is there any app you would recommend?

SSIPTV is a free one on LG tv's, but you can try most apps for 7 days free trial until you find one that you like and then subs are usually around €10 for a lifetime one.

Report that Amazon has recently begun blocking third-party applications on Firestick/Fire TV devices with the latest update (version 8.1.3.6).

If you have sideloaded apps read the article and form your own view. It also has other suggestions consider turning off OS updates and changing privacy settings.

Before peeps get to alarmed, it appears to only affect some apps at this stage, as there are not widespread reports across the interwebs. But it is probably an indicator of the way Amazon is moving.

in the blurry screenshot it shows option to keep. So probably nothing different to Google play protect.

Fire TV sticks on sale now for Prime members

IE site - €47.99 (international version)

    • Not sure if the International version comes with UK or EU plug (can anyone confirm if purchased off IE site ?).

UK site - £40.98 (Delivery only to NI not ROI)

    • Free click and collect from plenty of places in NI if it suit
    • Trade-in available also on UK site - get 20% (€8.20) off new Fire TV stick + Trade-in price. Worth it for very old Fire TV devices if you want to upgrade.

I've upgraded all 3 our fire sticks over last couple of years by collecting in Newry - any excuse to do a booze run!

I still find the Fire TV stick is the best device when traveling or on holidays to watch on another TV.

I've the regular 4k uhd ones, is it worth upgrading to 4k max?

    Main differences are

    image.png

Unless you having issues running out of storage or really want one of the features above, I would suggest not.

I only use my stick for streaming apps and never had an issue with storage. But all depends on your usage, this might be an issue for others with a ton of apps. Storage is easily managed by unloading apps you dont use.

One of my sticks I upgraded was regular 4K version, but I wanted Wifi 6E as we have a very busy home network and I look to optimise it and reduce congestion where ever I can.

The processor in the 4K max is only marginally faster and wont result in improved streaming or AV performance.

the max is worth it for the extra storage if u use a lot of apps , i only buy the max for people

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,844 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

The only issue I have is on stremio when you click on a 4k 40Gb file and it buffers every 30s. Would the extra storage counteract that, using it as temp buffer for the stream?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 6,180 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

it would have a faster proceesor and more free storage so it should help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭wassie

Have you tested this on another device to see if the problem is replicated? This would indicate a network/bandwidth issue. A 4K REMUX movie could easily translate to sustained bandwidth usage of well over 100 Mbps for short bursts.

Ive seen issues where peeps have plenty of downstream capacity in their broadband, but the way their router, especially over wifi, is distributing traffic is interrupting the stream. Its often a process of elimination and can be frustrating.

If you were just using commercial streaming services, an upgrade wouldn't be be warranted, but as Nowso suggested, for other streaming sources (and applications), the upgrade is probably worthwhile.

Anyone know if this 2nd Gen International 4k Max has compatibility with Xbox ultimate cloud?

    Doesnt mention on amazon ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 547 ✭✭✭cathy427

Anyone see any updates if its likely that we will ever get a freely app for the firestick?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,844 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

I redid my mesh system and it's working much better now, no upgrade required.

I find my first gen 4k is much smoother than 2nd Gen (non Max)

I think freely is smart tvs first, they're rolling it out slowly i think.

Yep - limited to TVs only. From reports Ive read, this app intergrates deeply at the operating system level as it is intended to be the primary TV guide on these new TVs. Hence it is a different kind of integration than a standalone app which would run on any Fire TV device.

I suspect it wont be developed for current or older streamers, but more likely an app will be developed for the new Vega OS powered devices expected to be released later this year.
