I wont be rushing out to get a new Firestick - apparently they will not have local native apps, but rather apps may be streamed. I don't really find it 'amazing'.

    https://www.t3.com/tech/tvs/ill-admit-i-was-worried-about-amazons-new-fire-tv-stick-select-but-the-truth-is-somewhat-amazing

And of course with Android gone, sideloading is not possible.

i would not do it if you do use apps like i player etc they wont get updated and u will need to sideload everything

i didnt realise the app store is tied to the ota updates, i did a factory restore then set up a amazon uk account with a uk address and did the hack, it let me install the apps (bbc c4 itvx) from the app store with a uk vpn.

Is that the only version i will be able to get?

there all connected up so if your stopping all updates , wouldnt they be app updates aswell . with some streaming apps ive used . from different countries u need up to date versions , us , canada , uk , aus etc

a uk address is the best to use in general unless you use irish now tv

I'd think now is the time to buy an Android Firestick - with the new ones and their roll-your-own OS, sideloading will be most likely impossible (e.g., no RTE player unless they pull the finger out and produce an official version, plus most likely forget about getting iPlayer and other foreign services up and running)

Vega OS is a Linux based OS, so side loading Android apps by consumers will effectively end for the new devices (when they are released).

Current devices running Fire OS will still be supported though for a good few years to come given they have a very large user base. Its even possible that we may get a couple of version updates during that time. Amazon has not published a specific, universal end-of-life date for Fire OS updates for all older Fire TV Stick models.

Typically with Amazon devices eventually stop receiving the major new Fire OS versions, but continue to receive security and maintnance updates for a significant period thereafter..

I think its reasonable to assume if you bought a current model Firestick, then it will be supported at least for the next 5 years.

apparently some of the apps on vega os are just links to websites and not actual full working enclosed apps,

Just buy the 4k max forget about these select sticks

Sorry, I know it's been asked before but can someone link me to the post about where I can add the RTE Player? Thanks.
