    No phone number harvesters.

Tried So Many ( Liars!) Is there a hidden gem, please?

    Thanks.

*** Mods; On prescription meds and .… Wow. But, genuine question. Quite 'urgent'. Right place? Move? Thanks.

Thanks, @con747 . Unfortunately ~ Unless you know otherwise? I believe the" Plus " bit is acceptance of their own browser,

***For the record? Not financial. Medical based, my end 😐

Not sure what you mean, it's an extension that works on any browser. I'm using it on chrome browser but use it on other ones as well.

uBlock Origin is the gold standard of browser-based ad-blocking. By a long way.

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

    Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/boardsie-enhancement-suite/

    Chrome/Edge/Opera: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/boardsie-enhancement-suit/bbgnmnfagihoohjkofdnofcfmkpdmmce

How much better is it than Adblock +? I always used Adblock + with no issues so if it's way better I might switch.

    Edit, maybe not!

ABP+ have a paid whitelist - companies can pay to have their ads allowed through. Numerous other anti-user practices. Loads of Reddit threads on this: https://www.google.com/search?q=adblock+plus+reddit

I've never encountered adds using it so i'll use it until I do. Why is google saying this about uBlock origin?

Google reduced the level of access that extensions have in Chrome. It was a change that was widely viewed as anti-user, and particularly targetted at ad-block extensions.

It is not surprising that the best (browser-based) ad-blocker does not work on the browser built by the world's biggest ad company.

The gold standard for ad blocking on android is IMHO a root based blocker like AdAway. In root mod it is very configurable and just works.

It also runs in non-root mode but I've not used it in that mode. It is open source and the host files are updated very regularly.

Generally, without root most "good" ad bockers these days seem to run via Private DNS and as such on android your phone will be running the app as a Private VPN. The connection will run in the background sending your IP traffic to the specified DNS no matter what browser or apps you use.

Windscribe & NordVPN do custom ad bocking VPNs.

Similarly AdGuard works the same way, it doesn't use a custom browser but it does route your internet traffic through their DNS servers, so not exactly anonymous.

If you don't want to pay for a service, or if you are unable to root your device and manage the risks that come with it. Your options are to use a custom DNS and something like AdGuard, controlD.

    Or AdAway in Non-root mode

Set your dns to dns.adguard.com. Quite effective at in app ads, and browser ones. It might have unintended consequences in some apps (one of my games didn't behave as expected) but this requires no installation, no apps, no subscriptions.

    For Android use Blokada

    Lads; Thank you All :)

Situation is getting So critical, I am now trying to get into town and simply Buy something with a board I can See and hit :(

Blokada proved a whizz to get. Blocked that Temu girl, advertising that Ridiculously tight tee shirt, over That figure ~ unfortunately. But, we can't have it all ways! :D

Sadly, I also now have pretty much lost the run of the whole thing. I'm getting thrown out of Here, eg.

Halfway through trying to reset my password? Get frustrated and go to another site, thinking I'll try again, later?

    Suddenly, I'm writing this?!?

Can't go on like this. Life to live, without spending it trying to log back on!

Let's leave this one. See if cold, hard cash helps - if I can get to the shop.

I find that the Opera browser has a decent blocker built in…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,659 ✭✭✭Stigura

@ArrBee Thanks for the suggestion 🙂

Anyway; 'Everyone' … I'm now on a " 4G+LTE " modem. On my computer, not the phone. It's proving 'sketchy'. I'm Still having nightmares. But, one thing at a time, eh? 😂

If we can leave this one, as is? I may well need to come back to it. But, things are rather fluid just now.

    Thanks.

For Android just use Brave Browser? Its been my goto for nearly a decade now. It also has a brilliant tracker blocker for other apps you might have installed. You'd be amazed at what info you're sharing via installed apps..

    @WealthyB Nice call! Thanks! 🙂

I happen to have a preference for the 'underdog'. FF, rather than Chrome. DDG, instead of G. So forth.

I actually Have 'Brave', on this machine. Not sure why. Barely even understand such things. Trust it though. Gut level. May well try it as my phone's one. FF is so entrenched on here, my life's there! LOL!

Bottom line is? I lost computer isp 1. Dead machine? Try to get by on my phone. isp 2 on there, see? But, limited. K?

Then, excited by a phone I only ever called a taxi on ….. I Touched things 😔 I'm sorry. It just spiralled. I think getting the free vpn was probably where I should've just slunk off to a cave. Really shouldn't have done That!

Hope I'm not typing in a Romanian accent, or something? 😭

Adguard (no root required) works great for me across multiple Android devices
