Sending email problem

Hi,

I use Outlook from Office365 for email and can send email successfully via a mobile phone hotspot but cannot from a fixed internet connection which has worked faultlessly for ages. I have disabled antivirus etc, ran Scanpst , compacted the pst file, restarted the laptop etc without success. Some of the time even the mobile hotspot method fails to send emails. Both methods download email successfully.

Any solutions anyone, Im at a loss.

Who's your email provider? Who's your mobile phone provider? And who's your fixed line internet provider?

Was your email migrated to Blacknight? Are you using the settings here: https://help.blacknight.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000572097-Mail-server-settings-for-BT-legacy-email-accounts ?

ISP-provided email servers often have restrictions on how they can be accessed. Maintenance and support is also usually poor or non-existent. They are a relic from when internet access was a very different prospect. Nowadays there is little to no benefit for an ISP running an email server, so they put no effort or money into it.

You would be better served by migrating away to a proper email provider. Even free ones like Outlook or Gmail are far superior

no, its a BT UK email failing in the uk on a uk talktalk internet connection but works successfully when in uk using a vodafone ireland mobile phone in mobile hotspot mode

Probably your ISP ( TalkTalk ) blocking port 25 if that is what it is using from SMTP. From Google - "The Office 365 SMTP server is smtp.office365.com. To send emails through Office 365, you'll need to use this server address, along with port 587 and your full Office 365 email address and password for authentication. TLS encryption (also known as STARTTLS) is recommended for secure communication".

Port 587 is less likely to be blocked, but you might want to check.

sent myself an email without changing a thing from what it was and received several hours later so unless it fails again, it seems its fixed
