I need to get a second opinion on my hearing, as per the post-medical instructions. Seems the result is borderline. Anyone have any advice on this? Much appreciated.

    https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/76-trainees-rejected-after-first-being-admitted-to-garda-college-1778339.html

"Seventy-six trainees were rejected after first being admitted to the Garda College in the past year.

This change follows a revision to the rules after backlogs, which allowed applicants to be admitted to the Garda College in Templemore while their vetting was still ongoing.

The change was made as some applicants had been left waiting months, or even years, to hear back regarding their vetting.

The 76 trainees were "deemed unsuccessful" for "Vetting, Medical, Physical Competence Test and Drug test".

Got called for station meeting with Sergeant, anyone got insight as to what this involves ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Coolguy111

when are you meeting him? Let me know what what you most do as I’m due to meet one soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Coolguy111

I done my interview last September, completed my medical and everything September/ October and just have been waiting on the vetting

I got 70 in my OOM and still waiting, , they only had a handful in the first intake, why is it taking so long? A lot of people lose interest over the long wait from vetting and they are losing out on people that way too

im Due to meet the sergeant/ superintendent, any idea what they process is for that? Thanks

Was it just a phone call that you got out of the blue or did they email you in advance to let you know a meeting was coming up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭OL16

Best of luck. When I met the Super (back when I applied some years ago, got accepted, but couldn't take up the role), it was fairly casual. Dress smart. They want to look you in the eye and see that you're a suitable candidate, a 'good fit'. It helps to look the part.

I remember he asked me to tell him a bit about myself, what motivated me, etc. They might (from what I recently heard) ask you if you have any concerns about family members, i.e., regarding their background, etc., so be prepared for that.

Hi everyone, Lovely to emeet you all. Im following along and had a question (or two):
If called for an interview at the station, would this typically something that is done at the end of vetting, and would it be an indication that things have progressed positively to that point, im wondering would a candidate be still called to station interview even if there was an issue with their vetting up to that point?
Also, for anyone who has already done the interview at the station, how long before you heard back from GH afterward? Was it one interview, or did you need to present numerous times for interview with different ranks?

Hi there, I did the medical last month and got an email on Sunday to say hearing needs to be rechecked

"Doctor reviewing your file has advised that if you wish to proceed .. that you need to follow up in respect of your hearing.  You should attend with your G.P to discuss this and may require an appointment with an ENT specialist for review.  We will require a report from a specialist outlining their findings and a copy of the audiology report that the findings are based on"

How did you go about arranging your hearing test, I personally don't think I have an issue with my hearing and naively thought that me not being able to hear the high frequencies would be adjusted according to my age, I'm in my fifties and never have issues in conversational situations so felt slighted surprised by this result.

Any information from any of the candidates regarding retaking the hearing will be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance - I really appreciate all the information in this forum .

I had an interview sith a Super but thats a few years back. I just couldnt take up the position at that time.

View this as a positive step.

From what I recall, I think it was near the end of the process.

    Best of luck.
