Until yesterday, Arsenal fans were in bigger meltdown mode than we were.

Now they've finally wrapped Zubamendi and their Gyokeres progress is at the stage out Mbeumo progress was a few weeks ago.

Liverpool and City are to be admired for their fast and decisive transfer business. Arsenal are not really doing that much better than we are, yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,067 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Also, City acted fast because they're greasy turds with no care for financial rules. Liverpool did so because they spent damn all last year and just pocketed a ton from winning the league so they're loaded.

As much as the Mbeumo saga has annoyed the piss out of me, I don't think we've been overly slow. It's just the fact that we all want our players in ASAP so they get a full preseason under Amorim's system.

Don't suppose anyone has the time to list the signings and timings from previous summer windows for comparison?

Great transfer progress. Judge it on September 1st. Smells like a pile of shite already. No need to wait.

I've no issues with it whatsoever, they took on a player no one else wanted to entertain and accepted the little bit of flack they got for it. Without them we wouldn't of got anykind if decent price for Greenwood.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,425 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

Accepted the flack? They didn’t just accept it, they embraced it. Their social media team was flaunting Greenwood from day one. They unveiled him in front of fans like he was a marquee signing. They saw a marketing opportunity and ran with it. Let’s not give them credit for being opportunistic and cashing in on someone who was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.

Relax there fella no need to go back there but if you so wish carry on yourself if it makes you feel better.

I'm Not praising them or indeed Greenwood im saying I've no issues in the deal that was done because without them it wouldn't be done so whatever they get they get.

If money is this tight that while needing 5 or 6 maybe we shouldn't have blown the entire budget on only 2 players?

Instead of two 50m players maybe try to get 5 20m players? The squad has shag all useable depth in many positions. Just reeks of bad planning if our entire window hinged entirely on the income from Rashford/Sancho/Garnacho.

The Gyokeres move generally had me concerned about the ST position and where goals will come from.

Links to higher profile strikers have died down in recent weeks having pivoted from ekiteke/Oshimen to Watkins/DCL. I've no doubt a lack of finance plays into this also.

Are we now forced to pivot into the loan market for the likes of Ramos/muani/vlahovic

Also now that Gyokeres is off to arsenal does that mean we can go for Sesko instead 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,425 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

Not praising them, just saying fair play for taking him on and accepting the flack and whatever money they get out of it. Got it, fella.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 928 ✭✭✭jayo44

Indeed you go ahead and make stuff up well done. Ffs this place never changes.

arsenal can afford to be slower cos they essentially just need the cherry on top. we need a whole fuckin cake.

Yeah, I wouldn't be holding Arsenal or their fans up as an example of anything after this last week

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

We need goals badly, Cunha and Mbeumo *should score more than our current forwards.

*Highlighting should because it's united and we're possibly cursed!

If they are broke and know that a squad rebuild is required it makes not taking the 100 for Bruno even more crazy.

We simply can't go into this season with only 1 or 2 players signed and expect to finish anywhere above midtable. I accept there's still time to go in this window but if it transpires and we languish in midtable than Wilcox will need to be moved on for someone more competent.

Bruno obviously didn't want to go to Saudi. If an offer that size had have come in from Spain then he probably would have been off but there was no point in accepting a 100m offer from Saudi if he didn't want to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭Ignacius

Bruno was hopeless in the final v spurs. Spent the entire game moaning. Gave the ball away for their goal. He is not a leader with the captains arm band.

100 mil would have solved a big problem but if he won’t go can’t be helped. He is talented obviously but he is part of the problem.
He tries to do too much, gets way too worked up and always looking for glory balls. Yes he has goals and assists but he takes so much away from the team too.
I would take the captaincy off him and tell him to listen to the captain and be disciplined in his approach.

But I’m not the manager :-)

This whole thread was mostly against the Gyokeres signing as for whatever reason most felt he couldn't replicate the goals tally in the premiership, now he seems to be off to Arsenal we're doom and gloom. There's a reason he wasn't snapped up the 1st day of window, I'm not clued in enough to know what that is but its put a lot of big clubs off him. Arsenal seem to have been backed into this signing due to spiralling cost of Sesko. Time will tell.

I'd like to see players in but I've a bit of faith in this new committee and hope we're just trying to ensure the players coming in are a better fit for RA

The wage space created by Eriksen, Lindelof and Evans going is not going to pay wages of 5 or 6 squad players.

If United can afford to improve the first 11 with two players then that absolutely should be the priority.

They already have 25 players or so and adding another 5 is not an option. No Europe. Less income with less games. They have to get deals for players like Rashford and Sancho done to know what wage budget and squad places they have available.

It is a mess, INEOS are part of the mess as they have created some of the problems but the problems won't be fixed by adding loads of extra players without the squad spaces to take them.

Cunha and Mbeumo will provide more quality than five bang average players just to spread the money around to create depth. What's the point of having depth when it's meh.

We're kinda alright for depth next season anyway. No Europe so it's 40 games unless we go on some cup runs.

Apparently this guy is quite reliable for the Turkish league but I can't be sure.

🚨 | #mufc really wanted to sign Victor Osimhen, but he refused to take a salary reduction to sign for them.

Galatasaray have made the best offer to him out of European clubs, and are expected to hold talks this week to finalise his transfer. [@yagosabuncuoglu]

Be nice have another player signed soon

Last summer was decent, but we need better one.

Another week of talks, I reckon this will be done by end of July. Also note the line "Manchester Uniteds absolute focus"

zero multi tasking taking place it seems

You'd think with all the upheaval and changes to staff in key areas that efficiency in Uniteds dealings when it comes to transfers would change but it seems to be the same no matter who is in place

Callum Wilson leaving Newcastle. Untied could sign both him and DCL, surely one of them will be fit come matchday?

no idea if this lad is any good. he is italian which is odd. price is €25m apparently.

i presume its nothing and maybe agent trying to drum up interest, or get a new deal.

I said it on here a while back. UTD are not missing out on Gyokeres. Just because he's one of the only seemingly few strikers available, doesn't mean its a good idea to splash 70 odd million on him.

He's similar in style to Nunez at Liverpool, big and fast. But like Nunez, he misses a fair chunk of chances. He gets away with that with Sporting as he'll get 10 chances a game. Not so much in the EPL.

Daniele Longo isn't the best source, tends to get a lot wrong.

Do people seriously think United are looking at Mbeumo currently and not working on anything else? Seriously?

    Its very simple

    United = clicks and engagement

Clicks & engagement = revenue for the content producer

Leaks and whatnot have dried up = regurgitate the same story on a daily basis.

The fact of the matter is that nobody, not Romano or anyone else know what we are working on, other than Mbuemo and thats only because we have put a formal bid in already. It makes zero sense to have knowledge in the open about who we are after until as close to finalisation as possible. The Gyokeres links for example, not a single solid link from the club towards him, just red tops, twitterati and ITK's putting 2 and 2 together to get 5.

Its widely accepted that we are somewhat financially constrained and that outgoings are needed before we can bolster the squad. We spent £60 on Cunha and will spend a similar figure on Mbuemo, thats our budget gone without selling anyone. Rashford and Sancho have both dirtied their bib publicly and coupled with the monstrous wages they are on its reasonable to assume there is a reluctance for other clubs to approach. Garnacho has shown his petulance on more than one occasion so again, he's not exactly being coveted.

Well if you look at our recent history then the media tend to get it right about serious transfers. And we tend to take ages. And we tend to do them one at a time, and then start on another one. For example, we didn't make a bid for Mbeumo until Cunha was done.

Maybe the club is planning but it would not surprise me if they were holding back on negotiating and making offers until Mbeumo is sorted one way or another. Again because that seems to be the way the club operate. We always hear about the offers as soon as they're made. And it's one by one with a week or two between each offer.

Every time this club negotiates to buy a player you'd think they were trying to negotiate peace between two middle east states.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...
