I have to paint a fence like this

    https://www.mcmahons.ie/cottage-fence-1-8m-x-600mm-46021

It will be coloured forest green . I'm looking at fence life plus. I used fence life before on a different type of wood, the one where horizontal slats overlap , and wasn't impressed . Does anyone know if fencelife plus is better

It had a reddish colour but that's sanded off.

I don't see any coloured oil based paints.

    It's like water.

I use it for timber cladding around the garden walls. I paint it every year.

Dosent take long and is relatively cheap.

Looks very good for the summer season so that's the pay off.

But I'd go for a better option if you don't want to reapply it often enough

Do you find it stays good, does it need annual application ?. It says 5 years. I think the best is Bondex but it doesn't come in green . Could you put a clear varnish over it to protect it?

I didn't do the shed this year and the water is still beading nicely on it.

I annually do the cladding. By the time spring comes around its tired looking.

But that part is our patio type thing where we sit. So it takes more work which I'm fine with.

It's really easy to work with is the main benefit but I doubt it's ability to last 5 years between coats.

Maybe go into Chadwicks or somewhere like that and they can offer something a little more robust.

For me though, if the fench isn't too long I wouldn't hesitate to use fence life.

Anyone know what sort of wood i linked in OP . I see references to rough sawn timber and other types in terms of painting .

The wood in the first post doesn't look rough sawn but it hard to be sure in the photo. Rough sawn as the name suggests will feel rough if you rub your hand on it. The other alternative is planed which will feel smooth.

I find all those fence paints need to be done every year but maybe if they have some shelter from the elements you'd get away with doing it less often.

Ok thanks. I don't think the fence is rough sawn by what you say. I used fencelife one coat on rough sawn before and wasn't impressed . Don't know how they can claim 5 years. Maybe fencelife plus is better but I don't see how any water based paint would stand up to the elements for 5 years. But these days it's mostly water based

    Is the fence pressure treated?

Only looked briefly but looks fairly cheap so just asking
