When it comes to the mid-terms, with Trump still 2 years away from any presidential election, the truth will be there from the polls on how the electorate feels about the Big Beautiful Bill effects on their families and day to day living.

Those GOP members standing for re-election in the House and Senate might not want him standing alongside them at the hustings if the polls show he's a millstone and not a lucky charm with HIS Big Beautiful Bill.

Do you reckon there will be mass exiting from the re-election ranks of the GOP?

For some reason RTE Radio 1 news has the GOP vote as 218, not 216. I expect some-one has included the two non-votes in the GOP Aye result, and not the two GOP Nay votes, unless there's a Trump vote counter in RTE.

How long before the tapes come out of trump calling up governors of certain states asking for them to find a few more votes people

That's the point though. They are not planning on facing legitimate elections ever again

    Reminds me of this:

Telling that it's not enough to just vote for Trump but they have to broadcast it constantly.

The ultimate problem: The Republicans are less a political party and more a mafia/cult that abandons reason and those who vote for them are denser than a neutron star.

Its a toxic powerful mix of stubborn arrogant ignorance, the worst aspects of religion, hate (racist and sexist), and corruption.

No. The problem is the people who slavishly return them to power again and again regardless of what they do.

The Dow Jones and S&P 500 indexes are up over 5% year to date. How can they be doing so well after 6 months of this clown?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

    They won't care.

The Dems will come in and have to clean up the mess, and will get grief for being fiscally responsible.

    Rinse and repeat.

    Utterly depressing

Considering that they are usually up around 9-10%, they aren't doing as well as they usually do.

Don’t forget the GOP in the background will wail about the federal debt.

The stock market is up because trump is throwing tax cuts at tech companys and anyone who is rich, one part is clever the worst medicaid cuts do,nt go into force until after the next senate elections. ice is now arresting us citizens because it has a weekly quoto to keep up of arrests .You look at video of an ice arrest ,its 6 blokes dressed up in military type gear with masks. it looks like a scene from black mirror

That could bring on a revolution where, with nothing left to lose, the people storming the place last stormed in 2021 might not be from any party assignation or trend, other than being better prepared very angry ****ed-over voters, following the example set by Trump and his ilk. One good thing is the GOP House and Senate members seem to prefer the business-suit & red-tie trend set by Trump.

It's strange that the trend now is for the "law-enforcers" to be the masked-ones and the persons seen as "criminal" are those not wearing masks, something of a change for the U.S. that.

i doubt if most of the people who voted for this bill read the 1000,s of pages it contains .

    This x1000

Hope the dumb fcuks really suffer after today!

Guaranteed they will still come out with usual mantra:

“President Trump needs more time to turnaround the economy”

Meanwhile their free meds and food stamps get stopped 🤣

I have to say that I'm consistently flabbergasted at people thinking the system will save the U.S. from Trump when it's that very system Trump & co. are intent on dismantling/corrupting.

It may be that few of us are aware of the full extent of what's going on in terms of MAGA people taking up positions that seem mundane but are really quite consequential at all levels throughout the country. It's hard for this type of thing to get much media scrutiny when everyone is rather more concerned with whatever outrageous thing Trump has done or said in the last 24 hours.

The increase for ICE is Stephen Millers wet dream come true.

If America wasn't an attractive place to visit in the build to this, it just became a far more dangerous and scary place.

America deserves everything coming to it, all their local GOP reps voted for Trumps bill to give money to his billionaire backers at the expense of the poor.

The Hispanics for Trump who voted in such large numbers for him will see a lot of themselves or neighbors end up in alligator Alcatraz or in El Salvador

ICE is a cooler name than Rosgvardia. I suspect it will end up armed like a military force, one which already seems above the law.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,784 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

This will just empower the ICE agents to be more aggressive than before.

I dread to think of a bad scenario in some of this…

It should be remembered that there are only so many illegal immigrants you can round up and deport, and a movement like MAGA always needs an internal enemy to rally against and justify its actions to itself.

So, as they say in the states, 'do the math'.

And the $ is down more than 10% since Jan, so relatively they are actually down 5%

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

Exactly, there's plenty of 'enemies' MAGA can target and detain now and with a $150 billion budget they have little to no restrictions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,784 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

Only this week, Trump was spouting the idea of rounding up American criminals and deporting them as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,608 ✭✭✭thereiver

The supreme court has enabled trump to almost have the power of a king There's a whole new system of digital surveillance which is plugged into the IRS tax system and medical and employer records along with traffic plate camera recording system .This is made worse by apps and meta giving data to data brokers . Data brokers will sell data to Ice the FBI or anyone who has a small company .Theres basically no consumer data privacy laws in the USA and the agencys which might look after consumers rights are being taken over by Doge and neutered or most of the employees are being laid off. In the next few years millions of people will lose their jobs to AI They,ll discover they have no medical insurance .

The system should have checks and balances and the Senate Congress. to limit the power of trump but the problem is the supreme court has a conservative majority who seem to bend the rules and ignore legal precedent if it helps trump .

Another 4 trillion in debt could cause the cost of borrowing for ordinary Americans to be higher than it should be .

It seems every day some company announces 1000s of layoffs . America is not in recession but it s not a good time to be optimistic about the economy .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,986 ✭✭✭✭briany

Trump used to be careful about delineating between criminal illegal migrants and ones who were innocent. At least he said in one of his first big speeches, "and some, I assume, are good people…." OK, not much, but over time that's gone down to where it's now a case that the very act of coming in illegally is a criminal offence worthy of deportation, no matter how long you've been there and contributed and lived peacefully etc.

So, given that kind of form, deportation of 'natives' would follow a similar line where promises made to deport only the most chronically dangerous/troublesome would give way to pretty much anyone the Trump administration pleases.

The problem is the democratic party is the party of the upper class rich. They have lost touch with the ordinary voter especially male and Latino voters. They don't seem to be able to make a case or explain why they should get in power or what they can do for ordinary people .
