Arsenal come looking for Brentfords Captain and one of their top players, they bend over backwards for peanuts.

    Very frustrating.

United have made 2 bids now and should just walk away. We said publicly we wouldn't pay the Man Utd tax anymore ; Mbuemo had a year left on his deal and can join us next season on a free if he wants.

Time to move on to other targets instead of caving into another clubs demands we've already spent 3 weeks on this transfer time to move on

He can’t join for free next year if Brentford extend his contract by a further 12 months. If Brentford are holding out for a few million more or even better, a different structure around payment or add-on’s then just give it more time surely? It’s early days. Move on if the backup plan is just as good and not as much money but what if it isn’t?

He has 2 years left. One year option. The deal is already done. Just negotiating how much is upfront.

brentford are still standing firm - they wanted the same as cunha, 62.5m.

we are still short of that despite what sky are reporting: The improved offer from United is the same figure they paid for Wolves' Matheus Cunha.

offer 60 + 5, 62.5, or walk away. though that should have been done weeks ago.

i just wonder would it be better walking away. move bruno to 10 and buy a CM. not talking about striker here cos that needs to be done regardless.

I think we'll eventually cave in and give them what they want.

certainly needs to be up around the 20point mark after 10 games. all he has left really (cos there is zero credit) is his charm.

Move on to the next target.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,703 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

at least we would have saved a few weeks wages. wouldn't surprise me if thats a factor these days despite having the best (or very close to anyway) wage to revenue ratio.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,061 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

We could regret that. I think Mbeumo could have a similar effect on the team as Mane had at Liverpool who was another target we passed on. Watching him play reminds me of Yorke aswell. Very strong and direct with an eye for the goal.

Bust out the Craig David and get to walkin away tbh.

Value is set, if Brentford don't agree that's fine. United have the leverage in that the player seemingly wants United so use it and say that's it. Take it or leave it and move on.

Next one down the list, if there's only one player on the list sack the guy who made the list.

2 points pet game used to be PL title contender. That's 76 points for the season if that continued. That's a huge ask and not realistic. Arsenal ended second on 74 points. You need to adjust your expectations or it will just be a constant manager rotation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,943 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

I think Mbeumo will get done. We've essentially offered the price they want but just not quite the split of up front & incentives.

But we haven't negotiated well. Our first bid was a bit cheeky but that's how it works. They want 62.5, we offer 45/10. They should then have come down a bit, we go up a bit, we meet somewhere in the middle.

Problem is once we've gone this deep negotiating for weeks we've made it very clear that he's our man and we're not prepared to walk away so they have the leverage.

They're still being kinda dickish in refusing any kind of negotiations though so I just hope that someday they want a player from us and we can return the favour

you're right, the opening fixtures are tough. looking at them in more detail 15 - 20 points is doable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,703 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

i think their asking price is the high end of fair market value. plus they were prob pissed off about the leak that he only wants utd, the reports that there was (apparently) a medical booked for next week, the the stupid opening offer.

maybe we should have come in from the off at 57.5 + 5, given they said they wanted the same as cunha.

Just wait for the links to start to random players all over Europe as another option to try put pressure on Brentford only for United to give them exactly what they want.

Threaten Brentford with sending Sancho on loan to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,943 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Fabrizio now reporting that Fenerbache are no longer interested in Sancho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,703 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

apparently mourinho vetoed it after speaking with amorim. hopefully not true

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,694 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

I find it hard to think of anyone who would approve signing him.

Hes comically expensive and he has completely burned his mask and showed everyone he only cares about money. I dunno if the Saudi's would even see him as worthwhile.

At this point its a given we'll have to be paying his wages next year, only question is will any club bother taking him for free or will he just be living it up at home getting paid.

There's nothing "dickish" about not negotiating. If you own an asset and are not prepared to sell it for less than €X paid in full on completion of the sale you unambiguously state that to anyone wanting to buy the asset and if they don't pay your price you keep the asset. Simple and transparent. Saves all the faffing around.

I'd like to know if Amad is going to be happy to be a permanent rwb, and if that's Amorim's plan, or if he thinks Amad is not good enough to be a starter further forward.

Mbeumo is not worth that money in terms of the improvement he would be on Amad playing as the right no.10.

Age very different though tbf. Norgaard 31 (32 before end of next season), Mbuemo 25 (26 in August).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,652 ✭✭✭Cotts72

I think Amad was better last season out wide as the RWB. Mbuemo in the 10 would offer serious pace and power behind the 9 which we have lacked. Amad's ability to play both roles is a great attribute to have allowing cover in both positions throughout the season.

But little to no negotiations but with us it's "want the same market value as others" (Cunha)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 376 ✭✭Seattle

Why do people get drawn into the specifics of negotiations in such a juvenile way?

Do people seriously think that the negotiating team of Brentford are sitting there saying 'We want the same amount you paid for Cuhna'?

Clubs arrive at valuations for players based on a number of metrics calculated from complex methodologies that would be largely private and discussed between the negotiating teams.

The valuation of a recent transfer can definitely be used as a singular negotiating point but it'd be very naive of anyone to think that it's the central premise upon which everything hinges on. It's a great click bait headline for media organisations and social media influencers/aggregators to run with but clubs don't have teams of negotiators that are earning large salaries to conduct talks on such a simplistic basis.

"Clubs arrive at valuations for players based on a number of metrics calculated from complex methodologies..."

Some clubs might do this. We don't.

    I'm quoting the BBC

Sources have suggested Brentford would want at least the same fee as Wolves have received for Cunha up front before they agree to the sale of a player who still has a year left on his contract.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 376 ✭✭Seattle

Yeah it's clearly being briefed as an element of the negotiations. But my point is there's no way the negotiation is centered around something so simplistic, which is how it's being portrayed and interpreted.

Valuation isn't as complex as you are making out + valuation and price are not the same thing necessarily. Brentford may feel that with 2 years remaining (1 contracted + their option to extend for 1 more) they would rather keep the player than risk having to replace him with someone who may or may not work out and so in order to take that risk they'd want €X price for him. If they get that price they'd sell, if not they won't. End of.

Similarly, all clubs (Brentford in this case) will always make an assessment of both the buying clubs motivation to buy this specific player and their ability to pay so if Club W comes calling Brentford might assess that the most that club can afford to pay is €X whereas if club Y come calling the most they can afford to pay is €Z and they may therefore set two very different prices for the same player depending on who the buying club is.

As my old Economics lecturer used to say when we were covering pricing theory "Never charge anyone less than they are willing and able to pay" 😘
