Wonder would the club be open to doing a deal which sees Dušan Vlahović coming out way and Sancho to Juventus. Both players are out of contract in 12 months and both likely to leave on frees if they don't move this summer. Unless Vlahović is someone RA thinks wouldn't suit what he wants from the CF.

He's on big money, and has been pretty rubbish for Juve since signing for them.

He'd have to be taking a huge pay cut for us to have any interest, imo. and then we would also have to believe he could return to be the player he was at Fiorentina.

I could see him being a player we would have interest in taking on loan, take the gamble and send him back if it doesn't work out - but i would doubt we would go for him on a permenent deal this summer, too many red flags to ignore.

Ramos at PSG i would see similarly - I reckon we could ask PSG if there is a loan deal to be done for him. A very good box finisher and, imo, if we are to get the best out of Mbeumo we need a box player - Mbeumo is a volume crosser, and right now we have no one to aim a cross at.

i'd be happy for him to try put it altogether for ~80k per week.

far too slow unfortunately - slower than dan byrne, lindelof, matt doherty.

If Amorim could show that he can actually develop a player in that fashion it would remove a big criticism I have of him.

Getting performances out of players who are being asked to step outside their comfort zones is a huge part of management. Anybody can put a player in their favourite position and tell them to play, the real skill is spotting the potential in a player to do something different and then actually convincing them to do it to a high standard.

Nobody has improved much under Amorim that I can see, never mind anybody improving out of position. But if we started the season with Mainoo actually performing to a high standard in a deeper role it would definitely give confidence that the manager can get the players to buy into his vision. Thats what I'm looking for, not just plugging new players into the side and hoping that raises the level.

He has all summer with the likes of Mainoo, a midfielder who started a Euro 24 final in midfield. Its not that big an ask.

When I see Mainoo, I think cultured on the ball, a player with a pass, who will hopefully be able to dictate play for many years but all you ever hear is that he doesn't run enough or isn't fast or physical enough.

Like obviously he has a long way to go but people weren't saying Scholes doesn't run enough, or Modric or Kroos or Xavi or Iniesta….like do we want to actually play or do we want lads to bash around the place.

I think if we are selling players like Mainoo, we are at nothing.

Now if he comes back after the summer with a zappy haircut, new teeth and covered in tatoos, that's another matter entirely!!

Amad has been very good at RWB, better than 10 imo. I thought Dalot was tarting to look a good player at RWB prior to his injury.

I think Mazraoui looked very comfortable at RCB, but that is less of a stretch from RB.

I thought he generally got Bruno playing well as an 8.

I thought Casemiro went from looking like a total liability to playing quite well for us.

I do agree on Mainoo though - I can't get my head around the thought that the 8 role doesn't suit him, or that he would be incapable of adjusting his game to it. Amorim's reluctance to give him a proper go there is a worry for me. I do think Mainoo has issues with his game there, but the coaching team at United should be capable of helping him to adjust and improve.

The speculation towards the end of the season of him being sold because he didn't suit the system was very worrying imo - because (1) he's hardly been given a chance to prove it either way and (2) I think you need to look at what you are trying to do if you are saying there is no way Mainoo can do it…

I do hope we see Mainoo develop into the Bruno replacement (at 8) over the coming season.

the issue with the comparison, imo, is that the physical level of the PL now is massively higher than even 5 years ago, never mind 20 years ago.

You need speed and intensity to compete in central midfield at the top level of the PL now. That isn't to say you just need player that can run and kick, but you need your players to be able to compete in and win duels. And that is something Mainoo struggles with imo - as he doesn't use his physicality well. He is big enough and strong enough, but imo he lacks the intensity to his game.

Scholes impossed himself on matches. He demanded the ball. he certainly got stuck in.
    Xavi demanded the ball.
    Kross demanded the ball.

He needs to impose himself of the games more, imo. But I believe that it can come.

Tbf to Mainoo who's level of fitness I have criticised, he looks like he's hit the gym and bulked up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,814 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

I've nearly really sat down and watched him play for a full game only seeing videos of his goals. From those videos the guy is a box player. He plays within the width of the goal and makes good runs for his teammates to find him with a cross, pull back, or a ball in behind. And his link up play looks decent.

Seems to be on £10M a year which Milan are offering £5M and Juventus have offered him £7M to stay. Think he's worth at least a one season look at if we're still looking for a striker once the season starts and he's still at Juve.

Fair enough it hasn't worked out at Juve but he looked a player at Fiorentina. If we can't offload Sancho and they can't find buyers for Vlahović it might be worth talking about a deal especially if we're struggling to buy a CF. Can assess what options there is then in 12 months or try keep Vlahović if he was to impress.

The speculation towards the end of the season of him being sold because he didn't suit the system was very worrying imo

Maybe they're just saying this rather than coming out with the truth about him possibly want a massive pay rise to sign a new contract.

As you said it's a worrying reason to be the reason why you want to sell him. The lad has massive potential, started most of Euro 2024 including the final for a conservative manager, and only just turned 20 so he's still developing his game.

Think "he doesn't fit the system" could be a lazy reason to deflect from possibly the real reason ie he's being a greedy little **** if the reports are true about his wage demands.

Mainoo is very young and had been thrust into a position of importance in a struggling team that was probably a lot to take on. We've seen him picking up injuries regularly and there are valid questions about his physicality.

Add to that he's in negotiations about a new contract. I would guess that's more where the talk of selling him came from as the club are effectively letting it be known that they won't be held to ransom to give out crazy wages.

Going back to the other point, with a change in system, drop off in performances and issues with injuries/physicality I don't think it's outlandish to see a 19/20 year old coming out of the team for spells. Particularly when Bruno was playing quite well in the role. I don't think those two work together in a midfield pair for sure, but how many more years are you likely to get out of Bruno? It would be pretty reasonable I think to hope that you can nurture improvements in Mainoo over the next 12 to 18 months where he acts as backup/rotation for Bruno while getting his body right and attempting to build his physicality to the next level, gradually supplanting Bruno as the mainstay #8.

In another system he might already be worth a regular starting spot but in the system you have he needs time and effort to add further elements to the skills he undoubtedly has. OK if they end up selling him it's probably a bad situation, but if he signs his contract and spends the next two seasons building up I don't see much wrong with that.

Just looked up Vlahovic's output there, and at 25, I think he would be worth a punt.

A double-figure league goalscorer in five of the last six seasons, and that's in a Juve team whose stock has plummeted in recent years.

    A risk worth taking

There was someone in here (Mitch perhaps?) that was VERY hot on him a couple of seasons ago. I know nothing about him tbh.

Give me Fiorentina's Vlahovic all day long but this current version is okay, he'll be an improvement on Højlund but not going to set the world alight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,558 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

at Fiortina he looked like he had it all bar top end pace. Power, physicality, technically sound, good in the air, great ball striker…

But he has been rubbish for Juve.

So the question is was Fiortina a hot streak, or Juve a horrible move/time.

He is potentially worth a look if we can't get targets we would be happier with, but I think its a gamble you only take if the terms are very favourable fincially as the risk of him flopping is too great.

If we could get him on loan with an option, happy days. But I think his contract is up next summer so juve would have to give him an extention (and him agree) for that to happen I guess.

Him and Ramos are two i'd be looking at as potential late window striker targets.

Juve are mad keen to get rid as he's on huge money. I hope the days these sort of deals are over, fixing other teams financial problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,703 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

any idea what fee juve are looking for?

Said before, but the likes of Jonathan David and En-Nesyri should be no-brainer targets for the club.

We should offer to take him on loan with them covering part of his wages so, every other club in Europe seems to be doing it with our overpaid wasters.

I'm sure Wilcox on the Ike's are aware of them and there's a reason they won't move for them.

    2nd bid rejected. from ornstein:

Bryan Mbeumo has told Brentford & Tottenham he will only join Manchester United if he leaves Brentford this summer. #MUFC proposals £45m+£10m & £55m+£7.5m; still short of #BrentfordFC valuation - talks ongoing. #THFC deny making any offer

£62.5M, the same price that Cunha went for. Are they not happy with the price or the way United want the deal structured. At this stage is it better to walk away. He's a cracking player who I really hope signs but how long can you spend doing this when we also need to get others in.

We've got Amad that can play there. Should start pushing for other targets imo and revisit Mbeumo when some players are sold. He's already said he wants to join us if he leaves Brentford. Move on to other locations and come back later when others are sold.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 162 ✭✭Runswithfeet

Maybe Mbuemo wants to stay at Brentford and be club captain for Keith Andrews?🙈😎

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,061 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

We should use the money on a proper striker and possibly revisit later in the window.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,952 ✭✭✭54and56

If Brentford won't sell for less than £62.5m paid on the nose then Utd need to either agree to that or move on to another target. Brentford hold the cards here, at the moment anyway and I can certainly see Andrews not wanting to lose what is probably his best player. That's potentially career ruining stuff for a new manager.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,293 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

They do and they don’t. They have a player who does want to join Man United. He has 12 months left on his deal (with an option for another year) - now is the best time they’ll ever get to sell him.

Don’t agree about the Andrews career ending stuff tbh. Brentford are probably already planning what to spend the money on.

Looking forward to the first 10 premier league games. It's getting very real for Amorim now. I'd be expecting 20-24 points, regardless of opposition. If we are around 8-12, he will be gone.

I don't think it'll be judged on points, it'll be judged on performance and projected trajectory. He's going to have to show something substantial or else he's gone.
