Putting heavy fixings to internally insulated walls

    Hey there,

I've just had the house internally insulated and want to be able to put up some shelves and other items on some of the external walls. Some of which I'm hoping will be useful for holding a good bit of stuff - also plan to put up a dartboard in a cabinet too, which is fairly heavy.

I'm wondering what the best approach is in terms of doing this securely - do I need to use fixings and screws that go all the way to the brickwork, or is there another option? It's 10cm insulation, by the way. Picture attached to give you an idea of how it's fixed to the wall.

Hi, you might get away with using CoreFix in this situation, but you might need to counter-sink them into the plasterboard somewhat.

Also have a look at this recent thread where the same question was asked, but for a 150mm gap.

thanks - would the aim be to have the CoreFix fixing go all the way to the brick or is it that they might be strong enough to hold the load within the plaster/insulation?

I was looking at some longer sets that were frame fixings - they were 20cm long so should go some way into the brick… but I’m not sure if they’re really designed to take the load of a shelf through a wad of insulation

if you screw into the brick through the insulation the screw-heads will be cold spots in the wall. I'm not sure what the solution to that is, but something to be aware of.
