One thing bugging me about Hegseth, and Trump to a slightly lesser degree, is the pair of them using the B2 bomber pilots as a shield whenever anyone asks about/questions the actual success of the bombing missions [were the sites obliterated?] claiming the question is an attack on the pilots.

Trump announced that Hegseth would be holding a Pentagon Press conference to fight for the dignity of our great American pilots. “These Patriots were very upset! After 36 hours of dangerously flying through Enemy Territory, they landed, they knew the Success was LEGENDARY, and then, two days later, they started reading Fake News by CNN and The Failing New York Times. They felt terribly!

One thing Trump made clear when he publicized the mission was that the bombs had never been used before, setting up an escape route if the mission were not as successful as he claimed; it was the bombs that failed. Neither H not T have used it yet, possibly because the bombs were American-made weapons and would mean the Pentagons purchase system failed them, along with the implication that U.S goods are not reliable for the defence of the U.S.

Hegseth doing his best Sean Spicer today. This all just makes America an even bigger laughing stock.

    1. Trump makes a balls of something
    2. Trump releases a statement, saying everything went amazingly well
    3. Independent information comes to the fore proving that this claim is billsh1t
    4. Trump gets indignant and sends out a proxy to attack anyone reporting the truth
    5. Trump praises proxy for being a lickspittle

    Rinse and repeat.

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

I doubt USAF pilots are that thin skinned ffs. Absolutely no media have been reporting or making assumptions about the pilots. They never questioned the pilots. The pilots flew a plane, dropped their ordnance on time and on target and returned home safely and undetected. Nothing of that has been questioned. That's a successful flight for the pilots whether they dropped a MOP or a water balloon.

Trump and Co trying to draw the focus away from the bombs and potential destruction and onto the pilots, trying to make out the media is laying any potential blame onto them. It's a **** circus!

Exactly - They did their job perfectly , the fact that it appears to not have had the desired effect has nothing to do with them.

If it seems that Iran are able to get going again with only a few months of delay then the clamour from Israel and the US Hawks for the US to stage another attack to "finish the job" will grow , but that brings all kinds of risk for Trump as the MAGAs are not happy about him getting involved in "foreign wars" etc. and of course all the inherent risks of bring dragged into a wider conflict with the possibility of Iranian retaliation.

Trump et al NEED the world to believe that Irans Nuclear program is gone for good. The attack being a "One and Done" is crucial for him. The reality of the success/failure of the bombing is irrelevant for Trump , the perception is all that matters.

Which is why he's screaming so loud…

So it turns at that the biggest threat to US global influence is it's President.

So can the Russians. Are you a fan of them as well?

Where the foot of a Russian Soldier Steps, a Ukrainian Landmine sit's waiting to welcome it. Also Himars, Also Dildrones of Consequences (Lube sold seperately).

Bottom line is dictators only understand one thing, Fúck around and Fínd out and the find out part is the best bit where they go out a window at the end.

    6. The bootlickers and acolytes talk about how wonderful his leadership is.

One other thing which Hegseth said was that the "low-level leak" about the success of the raid came from within the Pentagon. Most of the publicity about the leak [particularly from a certain woman talking to the media] was that it was "intelligence-based" leading me wrongly to assume that it came from an National Int-source, especially as Trump and Tulsi Gabbard were at odds on the success. I hadn't thought that Hegseth would still have leak problems from his Dept. It implies that he still is not safe and secure within the walls there.

But he and the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, Gen Dan Caine, largely based that assessment on AI modeling, showing test videos of the bunker buster bombs used in the strikes and referred questions on a battle damage assessment of Fordow to the intelligence community.

    Well…that is a tad embarrassing, isn't it?

We've had almost ten years of this approach now, and people are still falling for it. He loves the poorly educated, as we know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,687 ✭✭✭threeball

If the leak is nonsense then what's he worried about other than his intelligence agency has less clue of what's going on than Party boy Pete. Or else its true and himself and Trump are full of shìt as usual.

Considering the pre election lies and the post election lies, I don't know why, but I'm leaning towards the latter.

And now, he is an expert in the types of trucks that were there, the people who owned them, and the fact it is dangerous to move radioactive materials.

He is not taking this failure too well.

There really, really, needs to be a leader of the opposition situation set up in the States to combat the ruling power. The idea that a party can get into the White House etc, and just operate without any kind of counter to their bullshit, except by a completely dysfunctional media, is absolutely insane.

Today has been a bad day from the Trump administration.

    • Hegseths childish press conference.
    • European intelligence is saying Iran's nuclear capabilities were largely intact still
    • It's announced that part of his Big Beautiful Bill counters senate rules in how it cuts Medicaid.
    • Caroline Leavitt is naming journalists directly and attacking them from the White House briefing room podium.

It kinda looks like the wheels are coming off.

Now did he get that from the Russians or his own people? The Ukrainians would be the best for Iran to seek tech info from, given Chernobyl is on their turf.

I'm waiting for the day when some-one challenges her naming them with a court case. She doesn't have Trump's immunity or court discerned protection of official duties to slander or libel anyone. Hegseth seems to have tried to damage the reputation of the Fox News correspondent at his press conference, accusing her of being the worst there. He didn't give CNN a mention.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,639 ✭✭✭amandstu

Do we know what the European intelligence agencies are basing that assessment on.?Any more detail?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,691 ✭✭✭✭kippy

If you looked at certain YouTube channels the past few months you'd think the wheels were coming off ages ago. Daily they seem to post about him making one mistake or f up or another.

The thing is, in the states his popularity remains high, they know that any perceived f.up will barely last a news cycle.

The current one, it's a pretty complex situation. No one really knows yet the wider implications around what has happened in Iran in the past few weeks and it's very easy muddy the waters from a trump perspective.

People do get very exercised around Trumps actions however it would take something massive to oust him.

As stated in other posts the worry is the complete lack of a coherent opposition to what he is doing.

IF Iran suffered badly in the American bombing that Trump ordered then they would fire no more missiles at an American barracks - and Iran have stopped such attacks-

How many American soldiers are serving abroad now- is there any country actually looking rid of its American army-?-

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,639 ✭✭✭amandstu

    Thanks.

I feel pretty conflicted as it is good that Trump's incompetence is exposed but it is an unmitigated disaster if the Iranian regime can still threaten its neighbours with nuclear weapons (even if they are just for self defence -safer without them I would say, except for Israel having them in secret )

It is also beyond credulity that the American /World public cannot trust what the US president or the White House claim on these matters even if some operational secrecy is unavoidable.

Well ,they can trust that they are lying....

they are going to have hit them again, it’s a much more dangerous situation now.

His support is cratering in the US - He's at record low levels of support.

The MAGA core are still with him , but there is absolutely nothing that will shift them.

He's completely lost the independents and polling shows him completely underwater in every one of the Swing states he won last November.

And they haven't passed any flavour of his budget bill yet….

Which as I said , he really really doesn't want to have to do.

He could have explained away the single strike as a necessary evil to the isolationist wing of MAGA , but a second strike will be much much more difficult , both operationally and politically

Details emerge of secret diplomatic efforts to restart Iran talks

The Trump administration has discussed possibly helping Iran access as much as $30 billion to build a civilian-energy-producing nuclear program, easing sanctions, and freeing up billions of dollars in restricted Iranian funds – all part of an intensifying attempt to bring Tehran back to the negotiating table, four sources familiar with the matter said.

AKA - Trump seeking to re-instate the EXACTLY THE SAME DEAL he blew up to spite Obama which caused 8 years of further pain and hardship in the Middle East and was arguably a significant contributor to the Houthi Rebels activities in Yemen, the October 7th attacks and the subsequent genocide in Gaza.

    Pr!ck….
