Norgaard is a cracking player. Wouldn't mind if we had someone like him being an option for us in midfield. Damsgaard is another one of their midfielders that's very good.

agreed, all they have to do is look to maz as an example how these cheaper older players can be very good squad options.

They are selling their best player so will want the best offer, their manager also left during this period and I very much doubt Arteta woke up this morning and chose this lad. Obviously they’ve worked on it in the background for weeks and the deal is €11m not the €60+ for Mbeumo that Brentford want. United get abuse with both ends of the stick I think, we bid to high then we are getting rinsed, we take our time with a deal then its dithering.

I would say Ruben and his staff know that they need to have a better season and they can push for whoever they want it’s not up them to decide prices etc so they like us have to wait and see when the deal is agreed

£10m for Norgaard seems great value. can see why he would pick arsenal over us though

Damsgaard is excellent though - would have him tomorrow

they deserve the criticism. its the same **** every summer. like, there's a happy medium between dithering and paying whatever straight up. i dont think we are in that happy medium.

re mbeumo, of course its more complicated than norgaard. it'll depend on the structure of the deal and when he's signed how i feel about it (not the player).

ruben needs more than a better season. while i might make a small allowance if the signings take ages, if this season doesn't show drastic improvement i'll prob want him sacked.

context of course….if we dont get a proper striker, create a **** ton of chances but cant score then i'll direct that towards the brains trust.

Been a great professional and a bargain transfer at 30m compared to crap we have signed in defense in recent times

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,378 ✭✭✭BenK

What recent defensive signings would you consider crap in comparison to Lindelof? I think he's been a pretty poor signing overall and very much out stayed his welcome at the club (not his fault of course). Not doubting he's been a good professional but he's never been good enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,152 ✭✭✭caviardreams

Lindelof had some good patches to be fair but yeah I would also say he just wasn't at the level to be a first team starter. That said seemed a very good pro. The fact you practially never heard a quote or a word out of him says everything. No moaning, no complaints, no criticism of being on the bench, etc.

Seemed a solid guy and a decent work ethic, but just not up to the level some of the time that we really needed first team-wise.

Mazraoui was 26 when he was signed though and Norgaard is 31. Probably the wrong age profile for United right now in midfield considering Casemiro is still there too. And Bruno is also 30.

Harry Maguire is top of the list

80m transfer, it's been a dreadful value for money transfer.

I agree that Maguire has been a very poor signing as well in terms of value for money. Crazy sum of money for him (still the most expensive defender of all time I think which is nuts).

But in saying all that he's still been a better player than Lindelof for United. And also been a very good professional by all accounts too. Just don't think Lindelof has ever offered United a whole lot.

The annoying thing with the Maguire signing iiirc was there was v little talk of Utd (or any other club) having a genuine interest in signing him.Apparently then our transfer gurus at the time made an opening bid in the 50m bracket (he was worth 25m at most at the time)……and within days the fee jumped up to 80m.

Regarding Lindelof, while there is no doubt he wasn’t ever in the bracket of top CB’s Utd should be signing,he always did a job when he came in and under Ole in particular, he was a cornerstone of the defence.

As someone mentioned above,he was never found coming out of clubs in the little hours, didn’t cause hassle in the dressing room and was a good trainer.

Lindelof is a leader, one of the most vocal players we have when on the pitch. Physically not up to it in the league and at top level but his vocal ability and organisation of the back line at times was very good.

Suffered a lot playing next to Maguire, who fair play has had a bit of a renaissance and shown real character (that I didn't think he had) but at times Lindelof really suffered carrying his water.

Other than that his body, back specifically was always letting him down. He asked to leave on at least one occasion to go play football and couldn't get out due to lack of cover I believe. Wish him well wherever he goes

"People say ‘go with the flow’ but do you know what goes with the flow? Dead fish."

City where after Maguire at the time and he was genuinely class for Leicester and England.

Must admit, as much as I'm trying to be patient I'm getting a bit fed up with the Mbeumo saga. I don't doubt that it'll happen but when it seems like we're going to pay £65m including extras which is exactly what Brentford were seemingly demanding at the start, what exactly was all the faffing about for?

I'd be happy to spend weeks haggling if it saved us some decent money. But it seems like the negotiations consisted of us offering £50m, them saying £65m and then us creeping up £500k a day until we ended up on exactly what they asked for in the first place.

For now, it probably doesn't really matter all that much anyway. There's two more weeks until the team meets up again for training - that's the real deadline you don't want to be going beyond for new signings, especially with the whole Amorim-system lark.

I think it's more than a little naive to believe that. A rival manager congratulating us on the signing... These top managers are egotistical and extremely competitive, they're not going to congratulate a rival for signing a player they wanted… I wonder if he managed to keep a straight face while saying that.

I'm fairly sure City have encouraged us to pull our pants down on more than one transfer just by feigning some interest.

Dear God, Lindelof was average at best, a very average signing. Had a decent season as the iceman but has been a terrible signing overall. Club shouldn't of signed him at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,033 ✭✭✭kowloonkev

Unfortunately when it boils down to it I never had any faith that Lindelof wanted to win badly enough. A true journeyman who forgot to journey on somewhere else.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

I would imagine the terms of payment with how much per year etc is the main thing that is holding it up. Pre Season starts Wed 9th and even then the club won’t have a full 1st team due to International games that players got called up for.

It seems like they are actually going to get a substantial fee for Sancho from clubs he is willing to join. I'm surprised this isn't getting more of a reaction because I can't think of a more impressive piece of business by United in years. Not joking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,493 ✭✭✭fatherted1969

Lindelof was no more than a squad player from day one, the fact he's being talked up by some for doing nothing more than taking a wage and keeping his mouth shut tells me how low the bar is at Utd these days. If he was knocking the door down to either leave of get more first team football I'd think more of him. Good squad player nothing more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,716 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

waiting till it goes through, cos until he signs on the dotted line there is always a chance his (short term) greed will get the better of him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,571 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I'll wait til something actually happens and it doesnt turn out to be a loan with us covering a portion of his wages…

its looking promising, but my trust is low!

Agreed, for a man that came with the nickname "the iceman" we ended up with "the snowman"
