Russia couldn’t get to Kyiv because NATO and EU countries stepped in and helped with equipment, intel etc. Make no mistake without that help they would be knocking on Polands door now.

North Korea now has troops fighting on European soil.

Iran and Russia are sharing and supplying each other with military equipment.

The threat is real and Europe is finally waking up to it.

Before the 2022 invasion I honestly thought Putin wouldn't do it as it would be economic suicide. Despite it's resources the world economy would adjust to cutting it out.

But culturally attack is the Russian posture. I was looking back through events over time and at least every 35 years Russia has either being invading somewhere or enduring a civil war of some sort. There is no civic societal norm, it's always war in some direction, either invading or imploding.

At some stage the invasion of Ukraine may invert into a bloody Russian meltdown.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

“But conventional defence spending increases is pointless”

Until the time comes when we say “if only we had”

I don’t like to see the world increasing its spending on weapons but unfortunately with natural resources in shorter supply than ever before, and more protectionism creeping into the most democratic of countries , defence spending, whether on missiles, tanks planes or cybersecurity is a fact of life now- along with better decision making and more assertive and decisive leadsrship when it comes to threats like Russians invading Ukraine

Lots of talk doing the rounds that the bunker strike on the 3 facilities may not have been as successful as claimed initially

Have you not been reading the thread, this has been discussed many times already. You seem to be posting this like it's new information which it's not.

    That’s a supremely stupid stance

Russia fired thousands of missiles and 30,000+ long range drones since this war started

You think the Finns, the Balts, Poles etc want to find out what it’s like to spend years under nightly Russian/Iranian/Korean terror and lose hundreds of thousands people?

Yes Russians are incompetent but they still levelled dozens of cities, killed, looted and raped and kidnapped thousands

Your position which the far left often adopts is naive to the extreme

That Russia might be stopped would be little consolation to all the people that would die before the cavalry arrives, if it arrives

it’s not pointless if it is done in combination with appropriate type and level of investment in cyber and intelligence security

Ya because NATO interviened much of which is Europe.

Not a hope Europe is under threat from that poorly trained antique army.

All this being a tough guy with NATO is just more Trump bullsht about the US being robbed and screwed by allies.

AN ‘expert on TV yesterday was commenting on Trump’s dismissal of some of EU foreign ministers meeting their Iranian counterpart to try and resolve the Iran /Israel way. I thought the following point he made was of interest. He said that Iran would not trust the US one Iota in the US guaranteeing the agreement to end the war , furores investment promise, etc, etc, etc. And that Iran might go along with a ‘ DEAL ‘ if the EU is nvolved with the Americans - as a equal partner- in any agreement

So, the message for Trump is “ be very careful what you wish for’

Iran might have a ‘chat’ with Ukr - if they ‘kiss and make up’ - asto what a US guaranteeing the agreement looks like or even have the. Proverbial ‘chat’ withthe Kurds

Trump now comparing the bombs the other night to Hiroshima. Clearly trying to save face after they appear to have been ineffective, but doing so in the typical man child way he always does.

And don't forget that they are actively interfereing with GPS navigation in and around the Baltic states, which has a direct effect on Irish-owned, Irish-operated aircraft, one of which was forced out of the sky so the Russians could get their hands on a couple of people whose opinions they didn't like.

So yeah, @breezy1985 , the EU - including "remote" member states like Ireland - has valid security concerns.

The EU is a joke. They can't stop a country attached to mainland Europe from being destroyed by Russia.

The EU needs an army and iots of weapons to show we are a legitimate force that has to be reckoned with.

Russia would back down very quickly if that were the case.

What we have right now is a peace brigade who fail regularly and are more interested in bringing Africa into the EU than building a big army to defend us.

We need to be worried, like everywhere else, about the loose cannon that is Trump. He could decide in the morning that Turkey is a problem.

If we had a well stocked army there wouldn't be any concern.

Interesting to see posters trying to explain Rutte's pathetic a*** licking of Trump. Inexcusable and embarrassing fawning imo. And now compounds the embarrassment for us Europeans when referring to Trump's use of a profanity he says, according to the Guardian, 'daddy has to sometimes use strong language'. Bizarre utterances from an amadán!

    “Bomb, bomb Iran.”

It's hard to believe the sitting President would post something so crass as a this……

And the likelihood of him winning one remains incredibly low. Autocrats or wannabe autocrats tend to struggle. He was probably more likely to win a best supporting actor for Home Alone 2.

Is he favourites with the bookies because punters are just lumping on rather then him really having a chance? When does the award take place.

So a quick Google indicates that he can't actually even win it this year. Nominations closed on January 31st so unless a nomination was sent in that period of time, he is not even under consideration for 2025. Any nominations now are for 2026 and winner would be decided in October 2026. Given how atrociously his first 6 months have gone, by then the US will be far greater for general unrest.

So his chances of winning this year are even lower than I initially thought. 😂

What embarassment? The man is one of the most successful politicians in postwar European history. This will have been forgotten about in a few days and I'd be surprised if more than a few people here knew who he was before yesterday or could name the party he used to lead.

The regime that drove 100 000 people into our country? People we see walking the streets every day. We don't want to see another hundred thousand.

If America had followed its policy of defending Ukraine then Russia would have just bled dry and Nato would have remained as fit for purpose as it has been all along.

Spending money on defence is fine but if it can be avoided it is much better.

Also the notion that US contributes more the rest of Nato to its defence is flawed and only a prize idiot and bully like Trump (with his major in economics) would get away with pushing it.

He has publicly said he would bang his own daughter.

So what goes on in secret would probably get him thrown out of one of Diddy's parties.
