VODAFONE GIGABOX - Anybody recently having issues with intermittent DROPS all day long - wifi/wired

Hi Guys,

Pulling hair our last few weeks.

All of a sudden my Gigabox gigabit broadband is dropping intermittently, getting worse. This using 2.4g, 5g and wireless / wired.

On to Voda about it. Did reset of the router and the ONT BOX inside the door .. worked for a few days, now back to drops.

Have had this for years without any issue at all .. until now.

I wonder is this issues with WIFI 6 or 7, maybe even ipv4 vs ipv6?

It was voda / Siro that set it all up from the outside ESB box. They put the coax cable from that ESB box up into the horizontal shoot pipe ( exposed ) and dropped it from that to the porch where the outside part ( i assume ) of the ONT box is. Totally exposed to the weather. I am beginning to wonder is it desicated plastic on the coax cable letting water in?

Anyway is this common, anyone else solve it?

My systems are laptop and desktop core i5s .. one with win 10 other with win 11 and a samsung s20 phone

Gigabox doesnt have WiFi 7 so nothing to do with that (plus if wired connections also dropping probably rules out WiFi issue).

Vodafone also dont support IPV6 at present either.

SIRO cable is not Coax, its fibre which is not really that susceptible to water ingress. The cable you see is just an outer protective layer, there is a very thin fibre cable in the middle.

Sounds like a line fault or faulty router, keep on to Vodafone.

There has been posts on Boards in the past about intermittent Vodafone connection issues mostly at night If I remember correctly, but that mightn’t be your issue.

You could ask Vodafone for an engineer to come out to check the line, it’s fibre not coax just so you know. It’s quite standard to have the cable exposed, it’s an outdoor rated cable, but something might be wrong along the way.

Do you have a spare router by any chance? You can connect the router directly to the ONT to rule out any Gigabox issue.

Are you in contract with Vodafone? If there was nothing wrong with the line and you weren’t in contract, you could just switch to someone else using SIRO.
