Fanning has to have some sort of blackmail on the Second Captains to be booked this often

Imagine spending a fiver a month and religiously listening and commenting on a podcast you clearly don't like.

I actually like Dion on the pod he's no Ken but he thinks cogently as a wise man once said. I used to listen to his football podcast years ago, can't remember the name, but lately I just wish he'd clear his throat before talking 🤣

Fanning’s came up with a Cooney-esque argument that Ange being sacked somehow changes how much Spurs fans are enjoying winning the Europa and lording it over United and Liverpool.

It’s fascinating to listen to the journo contrarian wheels in this guy any time a mic is put on front of him from.

That was a bit strange alright, I'm not sure how sacking the manager stops fans from enjoying winning a trophy?

I did find it slightly amusing how this competition got bigged up because Spurs won it and then sacked their manager. If Utd had won it it would have just been dismissed as a tin pot trophy.

I enjoyed listening to Murph and Gavin Cooney trash it out, I could see where both sides were coming from, that being said if I had 200 odd quid and was offered a ticket I would go along.

I had the same pov as fanning before ange was sacked. They never win anything and when they do they sack the manager. What do they actually want. I know levy said they want to win the league but they've never done anything that will help them win the league other than sack managers after they've struggled with a mediocre squad. Where's the depth of squad they need or the replacement for Kane or any of the other top players that left the club in recent years.

if they got to 5th next season and hovered around 3rd-6th over the next 4 years would that be a success? That's the best they can really hope for. If Thomas Frank did that i bet they won't sack him because deep down that's what Levy wants.

Excluding Liverpool, city, utd, Chelsea and arsenal no club has had much success during the Lifetime of most fans. The years they did win are the best moments of their supporting experience. Just enjoy it and realise that even when you're winning it isn't like playing like gods all the time.

I have no doubt that while Frank is a good manager spurs will do what they always do, which is buy players to get them just inside the CL spots some seasons.

That John B stuff was awful ****, Ciillian and Murph going on about it, exaggerating how great it was, you might as well have been listening to the Two Johnny's.. I can't help feeling like the podcast really is going downhill

Just in time to cover the biggest football story of the year.

Tomorrows pod will be a league of Ireland one. Fantastic. Something to look forward to before the Waterford Vs shels match.

Duffer is wild as an unbroken horse and this is definitely the full stop on that argument. Big blow for the LoI as he was the biggest attraction by a mile.

Agreed but it doesn't seem like that job was any good for his mental health.

if only Duffer was half the manager that Irish football journalists portray him to be we’d be in business

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 582 ✭✭✭Tucker.Tim

Branno talking the expected guff that the uptick in coverage and interest in the LoI isn’t down to having the Mad Hatter in Tolka Park. Love the lad but he can’t see forest for the trees with the domestic league.

Desperately needs to get himself to a top level IC football match and he might understand the gulf in skill and athleticism on display and why RTE are doing documentaries on one and not the other.

Can't get over McDevitt thinking 50 percent of Pantera is a better support act than Gojira.

Am I right in thinking that you think intercounty GAA players are better skilled than the top LOI players?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,694 ✭✭✭atilladehun

Ive coached underage intercounty players and underage internationals that have gone on to play professional soccer and LOI fwiw. I wouldn't agree with that take at all. There will always be a crossover few but mostly there's horses for courses. They're very different skills required. Someone like Dawson devoy could make most gaa players look completely out of place on a soccer pitch. Body movement and specific skills required are completely different. I've seen the intercounty players transition to rugby much more successfully.

Soccer's difficulty is hugely underrated, probably because of its ubiquitous nature. Someone emailed Joe Molloy last week saying they think they'd score more goals for utd than hojland. Bananas. Take the playground rules out of it and it's a completely different sport.

Jesus, Gerry was talking some load of waffle at the start of that Lions chat... You actually couldn't even parody that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,068 ✭✭✭Smell the glove

Genuine question, does anyone have a serious interest in the lions tour? I mean I watch some rugby (6 nations, world cup etc) and I watch it given the time of year and time of day it's on but if this clashed with say any football matches in November or something there's no way I would watch it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,911 ✭✭✭Brock Turnpike

And now he's saying the Lions is a big deal in Australia. Having been in Melbourne when the Lions last visited, I can tell you now that is pure nonsense from Gerry. You would not even have known the Lions were there given the lack of coverage in the Aussie media. Only that there were ex-pat Lions fans around the place, nobody would have been any the wiser.

Probably true. I kinda wonder if any job is though… from listening to his interviews, particularly his one with Richie Sadlier last year, it kinda sounds like he has some fairly fundamental issues he needs to address first. Like, it's very clear he's a man with literally nothing else on his mind beyond football. No interest in other education, no interest in music, no interest in film, or tv, no interest in books, no interest in any other forms of culture or politics or science etc etc, and makes it very clear that even as far as his family life is concerned that football is always the priority for his time.

That's not healthy… I think for himself he really needs to try to find a bit of balance as a person, find other ways to be, where his whole life and identity and sense of self isn't entirely wrapped up in football. Like, honestly, he could probably do with a bit of therapy, and figuring out who he actually is, and just learn to be a bit interested in the world to at least some degree.

Gerry’s on fire, not taking any of Eoin’s guff

Ken's thing of thinking he can't have English commentary because he downloaded the app in Spain is making me weirdly frustrated - there's literally just two separate streams, one in Spanish, and one in English. He's probably getting the Spanish one first since he downloaded it there, but if he just looks a few inches to the right, he'd see the English one 😂
