Oh I agree, I just think crazed lunatics is too kind a term........they either know what they are at or they are morons of the highest order etc

I can't quite think of the correct term for the likes of them.....dregs?...the kinds of humans that leave you speechless and more disappointed in your own species than you thought was possible...

it is 100% hurting both countries, but Israel is smaller and more dependent on FDI which is massively curtailed lately because of the ongoing conflict.

Iran is much larger and missiles in one part will not impact others, life goes on as usual. And Iranian manufacturing is much cheaper than Israeli and western countries Israel buys arms from.

If Iran can weather the Israeli attacks their stature in the Middle East will increase. This will be hugely unwelcome by the family dictatorships in the Arab oil states. Despite rivalry between Shia and Sunni, a Muslim country standing toe to toe with Israel and not kowtowing to the US will impress many living under dynastic dictatorships.
That Iran has an indigenous weapons industry, which appears quite sophisticated, in missiles at least, is a major difference to their Arab neighbours who simply trade energy for foreign weapons.

I wonder if Gal Gadot will be hosting screenings of the Sky News documentary Doctors on the Frontline.

Maybe the Israeli state media would be open to broadcasting it? Might be worth sitting members of their government down and forcing them to watch it just like they made the freedom flotilla members forcibly watch the Oct 7th atrocities?

Who am I kidding? They'd watch it and probably love it.

Wow. If Trump attacks before the 2 week deadline he gave expires it will be such a stroke of genius. Never mind The Art of the Deal, he must be reading the Art of War 🙄

So is Germany getting back the land it lost after WW2 as well? People seem to have inconsistent views on what land should be given back. Look at the size of Israel compared to the countries that seem bent on its destruction.

I think people have a major issue with israel continuing to colonise the West Bank. Under international law that is illegal so doesn't really matter how small Israel thinks it is or how large it thinks it's should be but if it continues to thumb it's nose at intnerational law it won't win many friends.

Looks like the peacemakers only deal could be collapsing soon.

If I were Russia, looking to mess with the US, I'd be offering Iran protection under their nuclear umbrella, in exchange for more assistance with their war in Ukraine. Similar to what the US does with NATO countries. Station some bombs at Iranian bases, negotiate a port for the Russian navy.

You're making my point for me. No Germany is not getting land it took during WW2.

Did I say Israel should cease to exist or that they should all be forcibly removed? No.

What I did say was that the state needs total reform to ensure other groups who aren't Jewish (or even some Jewish groups who are marginalised) have fair and equal rights.

Iran never wanted a mutual defence clause in it's recent treaty with Russia which went into Iranian law this week. They did however commit not to persue the development of nuclear weapons though.

The point is, calling for political change can sometimes result in the end of a 'country' existing within the borders it currently occupies. Calling for a country to no longer exist (eg, all the Scottish nationalists and NI nationalists want the 'UK' to no longer exist. It doesn't make them psychos or extremists)

No country or political regime has a 'right to exist'. They exist for as long as they can maintain stability and the support of their population, and in the normal course of history, nations, countries, regimes change all of the time.

Any government can become despotic and if a government oversteps the boundaries of decency and human rights, then the people have a right to protest against them, and ultimately overthrow them and remake the political landscape in a new form.

Yeah, anyone who claims that Iran would just nuke Israel the moment they get a nuclear bomb is engaged in racist propaganda of the most crude variety.

The idea that the Iranian regime are motivated entirely by pure hatred of the Jewish state a thousand miles away, such that they would happily destroy themselves just for the chance to strike Israel is ridiculous, and completely opposite to the evidence, which is Israel attacking first and Iran and their neighbours showing restraint and asking for ceasefires.

I think the world would be much better off if everyone disarmed their nuclear stockpiles, but that's not gonna happen, so as long as western countries are permitted to violate principles of non proliferation, then it is rational self defence for their adversaries to also arm themselves with a nuclear deterrent.

    Yay

There were rumours that Trump was waiting for the weekend to bomb Iran because he didn't want to crash the stock market by attacking them on a week day (as if they won't just crash on Monday morning)

Twitter and Reddit are reporting hits in the Iranian Navy but can't find a trustworthy source yet? Anyone find anything?

Israel are by far the most aggressive and violent country in the region but have somehow managed to convince their millions of fanboys in the West that they are the most peaceful and operating purely out of self defence all the time.

They are - likely if this continues much longer, the credit rating agencies will downgrade Israel again.

Must be awful for those Israelis who know that this is all wrong. Two of their leaders off to The Hague for War Crimes, the State in front of the ICJ for Genocide, lots of Israelis leaving, the economy tanking, constant air raid sirens, normal daily life impossible.

if the daily cost to Israel is circa 300M, that aid covers about 2 months.

Israel has been spending fortunes in razing Gaza, attacking Lebanon, taking Golan and demolishing Palestinian homes in the West Bank for the last 18 months.

Given that Iran hasn't been spending that kind of money, I'd assume their war chest is far healthier than Israel's - even accounting for external support for Israel.

It would be interesting to see actual numbers though.
