Go to any of Eastern European/!Polish shops and ask for "smalec"

Look for Atora suet, in any of the supermarkets, just make sure you get the animal derived product not the veggie version

I am not a pastry maker! but did we used to use 50/50 of butter/lard? I met an old friend a few yrs ago who was complaining she could not find Cookeen anymore in her local small supermarket.

There doesnt seem to be any direct replacement for Cookeen which was 100% vegetable fats. Wonder what happened to the brand.

James Whelan butchers sell lard and beef tallow in kilner type jars. I miss getting blocks of it for under €1 in Iceland.

Rough puff is also really good for pies and is pretty easy. I've used both butter and lard and a mix. Butter is fine.

Nothing to do with lard,, but I just got this little Brisket in the fridge now for low and slow on the bbq tomorrow morning 😁.

I will be reserving the drippings in a jar afterwards.

I found Lard this week in Aldi. It was on the end of the chiller section.
