so they came down to €10k cost-to-change is it?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 8,757 CMod ✭✭✭✭Sierra Oscar

Apologies, I should have specified it's HP.

Yes, €10k to trade-in a 231 Business model. I hadn't planned on trading it in until the car was 3 years old but I was worried the trade-in offer wouldn't be as attractive in the new year and it needs a new set of tyres soon.

Interestingly there seems to be a fair bit of ID4 stock in the country at the moment. The car I've bought arrived into the country last week and will be available in July. It's a far cry from 2022/2023 when I had to wait six months to get the car (although the Matrix headlight configuration definitely had an impact there).

    Nice cost to change

Yep there's a load of them available.

Leaseplan had a choice of any colour in id4 pro last week. I've a grey one ordered, it landed in ireland last week. Be with me in a couple weeks

    Looking forward to first EV.

Was a straight toss up between Y, id4 and Enyaq. Tesla and Leaseplan struggling to communicate on the new Y. Old one not my cup of tea. Neither are the hyundai or kia.

Hi, just wondering if anyone notices the suspension is rattly, so I live on back roads and going over small bumps/potholes it seems to rattle

I only have a few weeks but its seems noisey, just wondering is that right?

If you have the panoramic roof, you may need to get the connection points lubricated.

Any VW garage should do this for free.

That's good news that a 2 year trade in for a new one can be got for €10,000. How many KM did the car have up? must have been low.

Care to mention what VW Dealer you used ? Seems like a no brainer. I assume Business & Pro Plus trim levels are similar ?

I'm here on holidays Spain and France. Got the ferry to Bilbao and driving to Roscoff to come home this week end. The car (id4 pro plus) has been great. ( this is my second id4 and it's a big improvement over my 222 GTX.

BUT!! I have to say I'm having trouble at times over here getting chargers to work🤬🤬🤬 It all started off by me going to a McDonald's just outside San Sebastian where they had 300kW charger. I was at 40% or something...but F**k me i could not get it to work...there was minimal instructions on the machine so I gave up. Went to another charge point 5 mins away at a big Decathlon store where they had 2 150kW machines and that failed me again. I wasn't stuck or anything and I just went to my hotel. Found a car park in San Sebastian and got that working. I then had to drive to near Bordeaux and I thought the motorways service stations will be a breeze. Knowing I had trouble before I wasn't going to let myself get caught and I had plenty of range in the car but stopped in a French Total Energy charging hub, 4no 300kW but again could not get it to work...🤬 drove on to an Ionity site and that worked...

Got to the campsite and that was great, la Rive in Biccarosse and they had about 20 22kW AC chargers and they worked a treat.

Next leg of the trip was to Ile-de-Re and from 80% I could get there but only have about 10% so decided to stop in an Ionity on the motorway...but again f**k me we could not get it to work...well actually it start and got up to 50kW and then it stopped!!!.

Decided to move on and stop at a Carefour where they had multiple 300kW and it was tap and go with the credit card. Got there with 18% and it worked no probs i even saw the car get to 161kW...really impressive charging speed.

Anyway don't know what I'm doing wrong and I've never been caught or stuck and I would recommend people not to let them themselves get into a position where you are relying on a charger to work.

Overall the id4 has been fantastic, crazy range as I've only been pottering around at 80-90kmh so my consumption has been crazy low, saw a range estimate at 80% without AC on at 460km!,

Sorry for the rant but this is annoying me…the amount of pre- authorising of my credit card and for not to work I'm surprised the bank hasn't cancelled it.

I’m guessing your issue might well relate to your credit card if that’s what you’ve been using to pay. I’m in France also but in a hired ICE car and we’ve had issues with both AIB credit and debit cards on the motorway toll booths. Was never an issue on previous trips to my memory. No big deal to pay with cash/coins. They seem to work fine in shops/restaurants etc.

We've hadnt any issues with cards on motorwaysetc, used revlout on the phones also on the EV charging still problems with that.

When you say didnt work, is it that it wouldnt start at all?

That would suggest a payment/authorization issue.

I had no issues with my DC charging in France. I used Ionity, a petrol station (think it was TotalEnergie) and the campsite. All worked fine. I did prep and had a fob for that petrol station though….. i'll see if I can find my post on it… it was a few years ago now.

Looks like I used VW's WeCharge for Ionity and plugsurfing fob. Just simple tap and go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,455 ✭✭✭joe1303l

That rules that out then, unlikely you’ll figure out what the issues were at this point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,770 ✭✭✭ECO_Mental

2 or 3 of them i just couldn't get the work at all..strange one was Ionity i got that to work 1st go the first time I tried, but the next time at Ionity, I struggled to get it started keep refusing. I eventually got it to start charging for about 20-30seconds and then it just stopped!! Never had that happen before

Have a look at those chargers on plugshare and see if anyone else has been reporting issues with them. You'll at least know then if the problem is you or the chargers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,348 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Mostly likely a payment issue or an ID4/your vehicle issue.

Not a chargepoint issue by the sounds of it, but deffo check PS for location-specific info.

anyone know how to turn off the speed warning noise and keep it offf?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,451 ✭✭✭micks_address

Drive at the speed limits? Has to be switched off manually each time you go for a drive. No way to do permanently

I keep getting this connect to cubic wifi when I connect to AppleCar play. I tried putting in my VIN number but nothing happens. This has only happened recently. Anyone experiencing similar?

Apologies, I never got back to you on this. VW Joe Duffy Swords. I've always found them good to deal with.

Just over 20,000km on it when I did the deal.

Does anyone know if the plastic bootliner comes standard with the car now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,630 ✭✭✭finbarrk

20,000km was very low. I have 31,000km up now after a year. And I'm trying to be conservative.

My 241 didn't have it, had to bring my one from the 1st edition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 120 ✭✭6.5x55 seller ammo

My 242 came with a soft-plastic boot liner, but not a proper hard plastic or rubber boot mat.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 8,757 CMod ✭✭✭✭Sierra Oscar

Thanks guys. The 231 came with the plastic boot liner and the dealer has told me the new one will have one too after I enquired, but they're putting it down to a goodwill gesture. Was curious if they were having me on or not!

Do they come with a Level 1 Charger these days? I presume probably not? There seems to be a bit of conflicting information online.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 120 ✭✭6.5x55 seller ammo

They come with the standard type 2 cable, but not a granny cable with a 3 pin plug.

You can order one for c. 320€ but I’ve found much cheaper and of equal quality for €150/175 on Amazon.

Just got an email from WeCharge (not that I use them) about a change to their services.

Fair use:to ensure availability for all users and to decrease our risk of fraud, we’ve outlined acceptable usage of our charging services. Excessive monthly charging volumes (e.g., over 300 kWh) may lead to blocking charging services.

300kWh seems very low to me, especially if you're using WeCharge as your means of charging (ie. no home charging/rep on the road)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,378 ✭✭✭KCross

Seems an odd approach to take for a service that is a pay by use model. Limiting users to 300kWh's just means they are reducing their revenue. I dont get the fraud angle…. every kWh pulled is billable. Odd.

I got same email from cupra charge today. I wouldn't use 300kwh on it in a year so doesn't matter to me, but agree its strange

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 8,757 CMod ✭✭✭✭Sierra Oscar

Thanks for that. Yeah I think I remember the dealer saying when I got the 231 that they were going to stop including them with purchases not long after.

Dealer hasn't looked for the old one back so I'll probably hold onto it. Haven't had to use it much but handy to have nonetheless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,697 ✭✭✭✭ted1

dealers seldom look for the kind of consumable. I held on to my granny charger , no questions asked. he did throw in a boot liner as a little gift
