I think it would be very interesting to see how the party will market itself once Trump falls, presuming democracy endures and they get dumped out of office. They've gone so gung-ho in pursuing their dreams of destroying government, what do they have left to offer people? They rely on cheating to hold onto power, outside of the die hard extremists, there's no appeal.

They view them as an underclass to be tolerated at best, necessary for the provision of labour in the service of their betters.

Education/Thought beyond that which is necessary for said provision of labour is to be discouraged.

They want them compliant and productive - nothing more.

Religion is critical as it allows them to tell the masses that their reward for their toil is awaiting them in heaven and that "God will take care of them" (because the GOP certainly f*cking won't).

They protect themselves from the masses turning on them by making sure there's always a big scary boogey-man out there to distract attention.

The Immigrants , the Brown/Black people , the LGBTQ+ community , Uppity women - Take your pick , whichever one is most effective at stopping the masses actually seeing where the pain is really coming from.

It used to be the "Reds under the Beds" , but now actually the "Reds" are kinda the GOPs role models , so can't really be vilifying them these days now can you.

It'll be one of two things. They'll either find a successor figure for Trump or they'll just have the media-industrial complex gaslight the American public into believing that they were powerless but now they've been liberated from MAGA tyranny.

If they can find a worthy successor who can command broad support from MAGA, that's probably the most likely option since MAGA isn't going away any time soon.

This is basically the mentality of a King in eighteenth century Europe. I know Frederick the Great was no fan of the common man but he did lead men into battle several times and was essentially an atheist and a homosexual.

You forgot the 3rd option - Accept Zero responsibility for anything , blame the Deep State and the Fascist, Communist , Immigrant loving Liberals for everything that happened and how if it wasn't for them "The Sunny uplands of Nirvana that the GOP had planned for all you God-fearing , America loving patriots were just around the corner."

Stir up hate and division and basically lie their asses off until enough people have drunk the cool-aid to get them elected again.

Fair point. I partly alluded to that with my media industrial complex point but I assumed they'd have tracked back to the centre in that scenario.

Liz Truss is a good example. Wiped out billions from the economy and now does nothing but appear on podcasts to say how it was the fault of woke that she was the shortest serving PM in British history (George Canning died in office).

"Trump is sacrificing so much by being President! He'd earn more money by running his businesses! He's not even taking his Presidential salary! If anything, he's losing money by being President!"

    Also Trump:

    https://www.cnbc.com/2025/06/16/trump-mobile-phone-plan.html

"The Trump Organization on Monday unveiled a mobile phone plan and a $499 smartphone that is set to launch in September.

The new service, Trump Mobile, will offer a $47.45-per-month plan that includes unlimited talk, text and data, as well as roadside assistance and a “Telehealth and Pharmacy Benefit,” according to its website.

The company owned by President Donald Trump also announced it will sell a “T1” smartphone, which appears to feature a gold-colored metal case etched with an American flag."

I thought the POTUS had to divest themselves from any interest he/she had in private business during their tenure in the WH? He's using his platform as POTUS, to enrich himself.

Kings can ignore such pesky things like laws and precedent

They can if they've replaced all the people tasked with holding them to account with sycophants and lickspittles..

In the world we live in here and now - Who stops Trump doing what he's doing?

    The Justice Department?

    A Congressional Ethics committee?

    An Impeachment enquiry?

In Middle Eastern kingdoms Trump admires and wants to model Trumpistan after they can and they do

Want the head of a journalist you don’t like on a silver platter? No problems. A few more slaves for the harem? Take your pick. Military parade that doesn’t suck? How bigly

Trump isn't a king though. He's the putrid walking manifestation of American greed and avarice.

As for who stops him? Nobody does because he has the media, corporations, the GOP, churches, the supreme court behind him.

Sure but there are limits. Actual Kings do not have absolute power to break the law. Charles I and Louise XVI are good examples.

Indeed - All created for a time when elected officials were expected to have some level of honour and to act like "gentlemen".

Utterly unsuited to defend against the actions of a venal, amoral criminal.

They can't ignore bullets and sooner or later Democrats are going to start figuring out that clever slogans on placards aren't going to win a fight where you get 11 million out on the streets but the other side shoot one of your senators.

It's only a matter of time before he's taken out by a "lone wolf" sniper or a drone attack imo.

There was a reddit post that attempted to calculate the attendance, which came in closer 30K rather than 250K.

MAGA math, doesn't always add up.

I'll say it again. It was a complete an utter embarrassment. If I was a service member I would be appalled at how the military was made to look so weak and dysfunctional.

And I would be seriously worried about the state of the military in the next few years given the omnishambles that Hegseth and Trump just presidied over.

They can't organise a birthday parade but are going to invade Canada?

Latest counts on #NoKings marches (alt national park)

"We’re honored to announce a final count of 13.14 million in attendance across 2,300+ No Kings protests nationwide. It took a little longer to finalize due to the sheer scale, but the turnout was historic!
So far, 71 MAGA agitators have been arrested, with 62 additional investigations still underway."

In my experience, yes. No one wants to do that crap, especially in the heat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,431 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

If true its above the 3.5% rule, now that does specify it requires continuous action, but it is a good indicator if that level of protest is sustained and continues to increase.

It's June 2025. Nothing substantial happens until November 2026 and takes effect January 2027.

Protests through the summer feel likely - especially if ICE keeps it up and ICE Barbie and BS Barbie continue to make spectacles of thesmselves in front of cameras.

Come winter though, it's harder to get people outdoors to protest.

Conveniently it was on a weekend day, too.

Mr Trump landed at the G7 meeting and immediately lamented the fact that his pal Putin had been thrown out of the G8…

the G’s are supposed to respect the world order , institutions and values and respect one another. Putin snatched Crimea and was expelled

Based on his presidency so far and his nation snatching ambitions. perhaps it’s time for a G6 ?

Better still reserve the G title to the G20+ and try including the rest of the World in decision making for a change.

Considering Trump's grasp of Geography, I wouldn't put it past them. But they'd be flummoxed not to find their enemies the penguins there.
