Topper suitability

    I ditched our topper years ago but now I'm back thinking about one again. Let me set the scene;

    I've been topping with an 8ft Malone disc mower for several years now and seemed like a great job. A proportion of the grazing block can be soft early in the year, it chops badly and then becomes very bumpy when it eventually dries out. After breaking the end plate on the disc bed that holds the support arm and chewing up the swath disc for the third time, I can only conclude the bumps and jolts are what's breaking the mower. So that's what has me thinking about a topper.

    I've been looking at Abbey, Major and Wylie, as that's what's available local-ish to me . All three are available as mounted or trailed. The differnces from the outside are that the Major and Wylie are galvanised while the Abbey is painted and the Abbey has four blades, the Major has eight and the Wylie has twelve. A few lads around have Abbeys and are happy with them. Majorhad a good reputation from what I recall. Wylie is the unknown.

    So question time,

    Which is better for rough, bumpy ground, mounted or trailed?

    Of the three makes above, which to go with? Good and bad points for each…..

    Thanks
