There is hypocrisy though if you claim to be against the intentional use of human shields while at the same time minimising or outright defending the IDF using Palestinans civilians as human shields in Gaza and the West Bank while conducting searches. I presume you are against the use of human shields as a principle, so you condemn the practice no matter who is guilty of doing it .

    You've got it exactly backwards.

Israel are occupying Palestine. Israel are using human shields routinely in the most depraved way

They also have all these command centres and bunkers deep underground all connected to each other in the centre of Tel Aviv. The New York times had tour on it a few years back, they took pictures and everything of it all, it's called the fortress of Zion apparently.

Iran says they have captured two suspected Mossad Israeli agents inside Iran who had explosives etc-

    Terrorism diverted-

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,869 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

I read an article by Fox News yesterday about how mossad had manage to smuggled explosives into Tehran for use in the initial attacks. So while I'd be skeptical about claims made by either side this does sound much more plausible than their claim to have shot down two f35 jets

Yes- and it's good to see suspected Mossad bombers caught-

Always amazes me when some strongly opposes terrorist bombings- suddenly supports mossad terrorism in others countries-

Human shields are used routinely by the IDF in Gaza, according to IDF members themselves as well as Palestinians.

For once the Israelis are taking on a nation that can actually retaliate. I don't see Israel backing down and expect the Iranian attacks to get progressively worse until Israel comes to its senses. America actively bombing Iran could change things. However their naval fleet is horribly exposed plus Iran has the option to close the straits of Hormuz sending oil prices haywire. So it would be wise for the Americans not to do sorties into Iran. We know they are aiding and abetting Israel. So in that sense they are involved.

There is a good chance that Benjamin Mileikowsky has put the very existence of Israel in peril with his reckless attack on Iran which was not pre-emptive but an act of aggression. Israel has never been hurt like this before. Mileikowsky and his henchmen are evil and the regime must go. Israel as an entity no longer has the right to exist. Let it's people be merged with the Palestinians into a Palestinian state from the river to the sea. A new state where everybody is to be treated as equal before the law and where ethno supremacy is not tolerated.

Mileikowsky has humiliated Trump no matter how you view his statements. Iran negotiated with the U.S in good faith and that faith was cynically betrayed. A P.R. disaster for the U.S in terms of diplomacy.

Nope I am opposed to mossad terrorism in other people's countries- Are U not-?-

Israeli ambassador / embassy pulled out of Ireland- does that make them anti-Irish-?-

It's not just the West against Iran, Iran with nuclear weapons is a nightmare for the likes of Saudi Arabia and the UAE. You can dislike Israel but understand that Iran with nuclear weapons is a disaster for the region and the world. I wish people would also remember that one of the reasons the war in Ukraine rages on is because of Iranian support for Russia.

Iran has one of the great ancient cultures of the world, it was once a beautiful place, A lot of Iranians are extremely bright and well educated. They would be so much better off not being ruled by a bunch of elderly fundamentalist islamists. Iran is by far the most legitimate target Israel has hit, far more justified than Gaza or Syria

Israel took some hammering last night, looks like they bit off more than they could chew

The Iranian regime has a lot of enemies and now is their chance to finish them. With Israel prepared to do the dirty work with US backing and other countries turning a blind eye the Iranian regime are in a very precarious position.

Israel and the west would love a friendly Iranian regime who can be easily manipulated and has no interest in nukes.

That's a misreading of what is going on IMO. The two countries who have the main 'beef' with Iran are the two rogue / cowboy states of Netanyahu's Israel and Trump's US. I'm not sure the likes of the UK and France would be at all keen on regime change or getting sucked into a war with Iran (and their own public would be dead set against it).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,117 ✭✭✭jackboy

I think France and the UK would be delighted with regime change in Iran, especially if Israel and the US do the bulk of the fighting. For now they will turn a blind eye, but if it gets to the stage that the offensive threat Iran poses is severely degraded then I could see France and the UK being happy to join in with the bombing.

Is the Iranian response more or less significant than people presumed would occur.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,108 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

Some Israeli analysts are pointing out that Netanyahu has taken a major gamble here that could hugely backfire on him. If the Iranian state comes out of this in one piece and with the current government and leader still in place (and no sign of anti-government protests), Iran may well come out of the conflict considerably strengthened within the region, not weakened.

It's about optics as much as anything else and Netanyahu's aim is to publicly 'disable' or weaken Iran. Failure to do this, or to be seen to do this, will likely spell bad news for Israel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,117 ✭✭✭jackboy

But surely all Israel has to do is keep going. When it comes to it the US will keep supplying them with unlimited weapons. History shows the US cannot help but join in eventually.

Population of Iran is 90m : Iranian armed forces are around 340k personnel (double the size of the much vaunted IDF). Has Bibi, like all megalomaniacs, taken on too much here?

It's hard to know. You read the reports of the last 24 hrs and it's Israel attacked an oil facility in Iran and Iran attacked a residential building in Israel.

Ignoring the fact that Israel have already attacked residential buildings in Iran and Iran also attacked a oil refinery in Israel.

    Media bias I guess.

I don't see those numbers coming into play in this conflict, there is no chance that the 2 countries will ever meet on the open battlefield, this conflict will be decided on technology and resources and the Israelis have the upper hand.Iran I suspect will look for a peace deal in the coming days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,117 ✭✭✭jackboy

I think Israel knows this is the chance to end the Iranian regime, it's the obvious time to go all in. They are unlikely to accept any peace deal that does not include regime change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,911 ✭✭✭JJayoo

Israel will pound away at Iran on there own and all the western powers will act like their shield and shoot down everything Iran sends

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,533 ✭✭✭combat14

with complete air superiority, US backing, an iranian economy in crisis, hamas, hezbollah and assad taken out of the mix plus 80-400 nuclear bombs in its back pocket for a rainy day israel are going to keep going till the iranian existental threat is dealt with

the main problem is they probably dont have the bunker buster bombs to completely finish iran off .. yet ..

all iran have to do is the make the mistake of attacking anything US

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 425 ✭✭michael-henry-mcivor

Iran regime can take the IDF bombings-

Israel democracy can not keep taking the Iranian missiles slamming into Israeli citys-

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,936 ✭✭✭Homelander

Some people on here can't seem to accept the reality that Israel is incomparably superior to Iran militarily as an objective fact. I don't know why because it's literally just a fact, it doesn't take sides.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,629 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

I'd normally disagree that bombing civilians can have a impact on the outcome, however Israel went looking for a war and escalated/started it so it's harder for the public to stay on side. Not to mention the public have to be tired of the war in Gaza by this stage.

Was only a few days ago Bibi survived a no-confidence vote in the government and now he's raging a war on Iran. Gave himself a present for Trump's birthday he did.

very true and if they have the necessary bunker buster bombs they may be able to complete their current mission without direct US support
