My man maths tells me it might be worth more in a few years come trade in time so can justify the bigger battery expense.

    Congratulations, any discounts at all?

The dealers seem to have inflated prices on done deal etc vs the Renault Ireland list prices.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,018 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

No, didn't ask for a discount i wouldn't be too hopeful! They're brand new and selling full allocation.

My quote is pretty much same as Renault price list when I removed the likes of ceramic coating, return to invoice insurance, interior protect etc...

Glad to hear they aren't trying to take advantage.

The pricelist has the max delivery charge as €1075, which does seem a bit pricey for a small car in particular

are people generally going for the 40 or the 52 battery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,018 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

52 by a long way according to my salesman.

Makes sense that people will go for bigger one I'd say its going to be a first ever EV for many and they'll be range anxious like all are making the move at first.

I would have been happy with 40 and the lower cost as Im a few years into driving EVs and have a longer range one also but with the colour change I wanted its only available with 52 without a delay so I'll take it.

The bigger battery will be a comfort to the missus too heading to the shops and her mothers and sisters house/ work all about 10kms away

I don't know what's going on with main dealers and RRPs. Its not just Renault. they're all at it. I enquired about the Inster recently, straight deal price about 25.3k for the big battery. that's 2500 over list, that includes metallic and delivery but 2.5k? Supply and demand no doubt, PCP idiots queuing up to buy new cars resulting in the price increasing for everyone with dealer laughing their arses off.

Congrats, great colour. Surprised there hasn't been a call for a grey colour for the Irish!

dealer mark-ups are illegal in Ireland/EU. Everyone pays the same list price, unless you’ve got a discount off list price. You can pay less than RRP but not more.

So whatever the price you were quoted for is, it’s for something.

With the inster, you can get the big battery with standard colours for 23,750 I think. The trick is to order online or show the dealer the online portal.

They of course pretend not to be aware or shocked but they will honour it.

I noticed they increased the khaki green colour from €295 to €595 last week too so it must be selling well.

the paint colour wouldn’t increase because it’s selling well. It’s more likely a factory production constraint (months in the future) that’s driving the increase in price so that they sell fewer not more.

@MarkN of this parish had a podcast just this week with the guy from VW Ireland who describes in great detail how they decide on specs and prices with the VW OEM, usually far far in advance.

I think this will be a very popular car second hand (no less new)- assuming that range will increase on future cars over the coming years, to have the 52kw will make selling it on even easier- you’ll lose a little on the price difference, but not a huge amount - I think you’ll get most of that money back

here’s a video review where they mention a real world test they did-

Cold and Winter conditions and they got the equivalent of 266kms (166. Miles) on the 52kw battery - will be interesting to see what figures people get here once they start driving it - but hopefully that’s the “worst” figure you might experience

I dont think its going to be great for range to be honest, cd is 0.29 which isn't great for higher speed driving. It will be the local car for us, unusual to travel much more than 100kms in a single day.

I do about 2 journeys a month that are about 400kms each I'll take the R5 on one of them as soon as I get it just to get a feel for it but I can't see myself using it for that long term, even if I do have destination charging on one of them. Ill be using the bigger car for that, better motorway cruiser I imagine

Yeah in fairness it’s strength lies as a city and runabout car- I don’t think I’d enjoy regular long journeys either- much prefer a bigger car for those also

fantastic to be able to get immediate delivery, when you consider how close it is to the plate change. Clearly they have brought in a lot of them for 252

Sat in one in Dundrum shopping centre yesterday. Actually a little bigger than I thought it would be. Centre console is a bit drab but to be expected at this price point. Really liked it overall, the yellow paint is lovely.

Anyone tried the Hands-free parking? Is it useful or just a gimmick?

Will it guide you into really tight spaces, or does it only work when there's tons of room?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭sk8board

I’m sure it works fine, but the answer to this is ALWAYS that it’s a gimmick. People who can park comfortably don’t have the patience for it, and people who are uncomfortable parking find spots that are easy to park in.

Either way, it’s the most unused/overated feature in cars for over 20 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,018 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

I've had it 3 years and thought it was a gimmick but used it yesterday for first practical time parallel parking when I wasnt sure if I would fit or not, it actually did a great job. But up to know its been a gimmick I just used to show people etc

However it tells you it has found a suitable space if you're not sure yourself for parallel parking so maybe it could be used for that and then take over yourself.

However, if it adds 500 quid or whatever to the price of the car id prefer if they kept it out and reduced price ill just go find another space.

But id say the same about most assistance systems and beeps and bongs, not too bothered with them.

My last two cars have parked themselves. Totally pointless feature.

I used it in the last car three times; once to check it out, twice showing it as a novelty to other people.

Haven’t tried it at all in the current car.

    That green colour really pops.

I also have hands free parking, used it once. More a trust thing than anything!!

That would be me too - “trusting the technology” - and when you need it most, ie parallel parking, it’s usually in a hurry with traffic building up behind you- you want it act fast in that situation

Has anyone put a dash cam in? Are they easy enough to tuck the cables inside the trim? And where's the easiest place to wire them to?
