And yet. 5 hours later, he has played last 15 holes in -2. Safely through to weekend. Good score tomorrow and he us back in it. Everyone going backwards.

Rory hasn't a hope - no point in fooling yourself.

what exactly does this prove? It's been a **** tournament

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,723 ✭✭✭Barnaboy

Not so sure myself. He is a confidence player and I actually think he will be buzzing after that finish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,723 ✭✭✭Barnaboy

Doesn't 'prove' anything. I just think he is not out of this. Do I think he will win? No.

Actually fancy Brooks right now. He has the game and mental toughness for this kind of US Open.

How do you think he is not out of it - but wont win. Is that not an oxymoron.

He will shoot another round in high 70s and cry and whine and throw clubs again , is way more likely .

Ive had a few drinks. What i really meant is that he made the cut but he wont win. Pretty badly written

Your first post makes perfect sense. I also don’t think he’ll win but I also don’t think it’s impossible he wins. To extend the point I don’t think Sam Burns will win but given he leads the tournament it would be crazy to say he’s not in convention. Anything could happen on that golf course over the weekend. I expect the winning score to be a couple of over. It would take great golf from Rory to get to that, he most likely won’t do it. But is it impossible? Definitely not.

Ok everyone, call the winning score now. I'm going with -2.

I think +4 has a chance of being a winning score

    Evens or +1

    Evens

I’d agree. The way the course is playing, anything under par today and he’s right back in the mix.

    Improbable but definitely not impossible.

I guess depends on the rain today. Might make pins more reachable but rough could be even worse

I said it few weeks after masters that it might take time that he might possibly struggle for rest of season.

Mentally the Masters took lot out of him.

I'm very confident Rory will win few more majors but I felt the pure drain of pressure being put into his goal of winning a Masters was going effect him for coming months.

He would have been better off had PGA been in the old traditional August schedule, but because it was 5 weeks after Masters he had little time to take a further step back for the season ahead that he probably needed.

I don't see him getting back into contention this weekend . Hopefully he be ready for Portrush.

Saw stat that last time he missed 2 cuts in a row was 13 years ago. Some going.

Scottie to win at even par is the likely outcome. He has survived the opening 2 days with consumate ease and when everyone else is falling apart, he'll hold steady and glide through to a comfortable victory..

    Scottie by 2

Rory our with Xander, that's a nice pairing.

As regards the winning score I think it'll be under par because of the rain. It's going to rain all day so they'll be able to go at pins.

Massive fan of his, but it has to be said, his body language and general behavior this week has been fairly disgraceful.

Slamming clubs, breaking tee markers, bitching at the gallery, moaning about the tee boxes being uneven, not talking to the media. If the likes of Hatton was doing the same he'd be getting slated (and rightly so).

I wonder is there something going on off the course. Hopefully he's in a better headspace at Portrush.

+2 front nine today but just had a birdie, hopefully he turns things around.

His first of the day, but he's given it back straight away on the next hole. And the bogey putt wobbled in, back to +8.

Gave a shocking interview after today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 23,197 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

At least he gave an interview - but to be honest , the way he is - it actually is a time he should not give an interview. Basically admitting he would rather miss cut.

was wondering the same myself, if there’s some things going on in the background etc. you’d think after winning the grand slam these bad days wouldn’t be so bad, he wouldn’t be so temperamental etc. seems since the thing about his driver leaked he’s been off it. Which ti be fair was handled poorly by the press, making it sound more controversial than it was as it seems to happen with golfers now and again through no fault of their own (Scottie’s didn’t conform that week either but his wasn’t leaked to the press)

Never liked him to tell the truth so not surprised at this behaviour. It's always been simmering away there below the surface from the nationality issue to the zico virus to the management court case . He's been well able to run with the hare and hunt with the hounds when it suited him over the years. Fabulous golfer but not everybody's cup of tea. Certainly not mine..BTW the fawning by RTE and in particular the ass licking by Greg Allen doesn't help.

🤣 Grand slam baby! It's still stinging some!

This is why McGinley said that McIlroy isnt everyones "cup of tea"...

Acting like a spoilt child rather than the champion golfer that he is....

No surprise to see the begrudgers putting the boot in. I'm all for constructive criticism but bringing up the nationality stuff and the bloody zika virus?? Give over

Im a huge Rory fan, always look for the positive...

I can understand how draining the masters was so can excuse any lack of form thereafter. He will get the hunger back, that im sure of.

However, as a grand slam champion his on and off the course behavior is deplorable. I get it, the media leaked his driver, maybe hes showing them who is boss. And yes, he doesn't "have" to do interviews, its not contractual, but he should. He has a huge fan base and should respect this. He does, given his standing have an obligation to the game of golf, its a two.way street and he should respect this.

Can't believer Harry is not caddying him correctly with the media (jokes) :)
