A lot of bad wides and Waterford seem stronger and fitter.

Mullen not in the game at all unfortunately.

This is not a management issue to be fair. Waterford are just better. Our forwards haven't won a ball that's gone in bar the first 5 mins of both halves. Half forward line non existent the whole game. Their backs walking out with the ball and KK forwards too slight to slow them down. Haven't got the ball in Hendersons hand and never really got the likes of Dowling or Nevin moving up the field. There's definitely an issue with being undercooked coming out of Leinster and not being ready for the pace and intensity that Waterford have brought.

But ultimately, Waterford are just a better team.

Edit... Not over yet all the same

Disappointing to lose but that's still a team with some very talented hurlers who'll hurl for the seniors

Outfought and outhurled and when our best player goes missing for 60 mins it's hard to win

Another game a kk team just rolled over We stood back and let Waterford dictate everything

Fair play to Waterford there backs were immense power and Spain are 2 fair hurlers

Exciting finish but can't complain about the result, well played Waterford.

Great game to watch I must say, Waterford’s two corner backs were outstanding.

Some good players coming off both minor teams on display today.

Yes management is a massive problem. But that Waterford team were , more athletic, much better hurlers, more physical and probably 10 points a better team. There forwards were exceptional.

As a neutral..that was a great match and exciting finish …yrs ago kilkenny wer a force in hurling but I'm not seeing anything to suggest ye will be a force in nxt few years..one thing I noticed too was how very lightweight the kk players looked compared to the big lads in waterford..ye were bullied a lot too…

I’d still prefer James O Connor over my team… I know these lads are trying their best and it’s easy to criticise but our management looked lost again., Fair play to Waterford and I hope they win it now. Young Spain is some hurler.

Great game between two very skillful sides. Waterford played better overall on the day. Their full backline was superb and Spain had a great second goal. I'm disappointed for our Kilkenny young lads losing 2 finals in a row. But there are a number of very skillful players throughout on that team who will hopefully progress to be great at u20 and senior level. The hurt from losing 2 in a row may be the making of them. Thank you to the team and management.

    That wasn't a final

That was the semi against Waterford who were runners up in Munster. We didn't play the best team in Munster. Clare play Cork tomorrow. I'd say we are behind the 3 Munster teams and this was meant to be our best minor team in a long time

I think we probaly could have made a few subs earlier but Waterford players just won more positions against kk players

How many kk players came out on top against there markers today for instance

I don’t think it was a tactics or systems issue compared to say the tipp game last year

Hard to be overly critical of 16/17 year olds. Waterford just so much stronger physically than us. I've been listening to lads saying that this was our best minor team for years. Didn't see that today unfortunately. We were outmuscled everywhere, especially in our half forward line. As good as kilkenny have been this year playing through the lines I don't think we ran the ball at all. All of our puckouts were long and being swamped by Waterfords half back line.

Poor on the line I thought. For the 2nd year running we watched the game pull away from us and had no reaction.

I thought bringing in sean Hanrahan with 5 mins to go was a joke. He set up the 2nd goal and caused a bit of panic in the Waterford full back line. Reminiscent of bringing in niall shorthall 3 weeks ago in the same venue for the seniors with 5 mins to go. He set up a goal for the seniors aswell. Too little too late unfortunately.

Better team won, we hit a number of poor wides. Some nice hurlers on both sides. Some of our stick passes was excellent. Always felt the team was overhyped but can see a few going on to senior level. Jake, apart from frees, struggled with his touch

Munster hurling way ahead as of now

Waterford reminded me of good underage Kilkenny team's years ago when we were consistently contesting All Irelands. Really good forwards, great in the air , physical verging on dirty. We are gone soft, arrogant and self entitled , it's sickening. Comes from the county board,It's on the line, it's in the stand. It's on this forum.'We are gone soft.

As the last poster said there, very slow reaction on the bench re subs, never made any real attempt to get Mullen into the game and our puck out played to the opposition’s strengths.

Why keep hitting high ball down on top of physically bigger opponents that were obviously better in the air than our lads?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,075 ✭✭✭conor05

Calm down, the chap is only 16 to be fair.

This game definitely won’t define Jake’s club or county career that’s one thing for sure.

Your bang on I misread the dunnamaggin gaa post that was up about it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 380 ✭✭jamesbond2022

100% Mullen and holohan just weren’t in the game should have been brought deeper sooner possibly the temptation with the wind is always to lump it longer but most of the forward's prefer low ball

You have to say the Waterford backs were excellent to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,161 ✭✭✭Charlie69

Ah yeah the Waterford backs were very good and as I said I hope they go all the way now. I suppose it’s just frustrating because our lads are capable of so much better than that tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 380 ✭✭jamesbond2022

It’s beyond frustrating yeah similar to the 20s you know a lot of the players are better than what they showed on the day but for whatever reason don’t reach there previous levels of performance

For me we should have man marked Spain with Henderson. How we had no plan to cope with him is beyond me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 662 ✭✭✭mullinr2

When our great team finished up in 2014/15 ii was always going to be hard for us as we fell back into the pack. Not only have we fallen back but we have been left behind. You could compare us to Man United, once a great football team, still a big club but average football team now. That's where Kilkenny are at. We are average and we seem to have settled for average. Let's not kid ourselves we are behind the Munster teams at Senior level too. We would struggle to get out of Munster. Counties have gone 30/40 years without winning All Irelands. We are not special it can happen to us

Agreed , and Joxer O Connor made sure Mullen didn’t have any influence for us.
