Episode two is a lot more like it. Excellent, the first few minutes is actually heartwarming.

Also my uncle popped up as one of the talking heads which is quite a proud moment given the legends that featured as well.

When I saw "So and So, Castletown and Wexford" I thought to myself is that @castletownman

Thanks for that. Great to have all the teams together.

Interesting that armagh have put our such a strong team. Still you'd imagine when they don't have to win, you'll ease off compared to galway who have no other choice but win.

Kerry getting injuries at the wrong time of the year too. At least if they top the group they'll have 2 weeks to get a few back

That'll be one of those games, very tight at the end or Dubs run riot. Dubs have no form but it could click for them.

If Derry have a good lead coming near the end, Armagh could contrive to let Galway win and so dump Dublin out. It would not look suspicious, as they usually have a very close result. Armagh are going to be top of the group regardless, and they could see the Dubs as more dangerous than Galway later on.

Hopefully not Galway. Need to show a resurgence in form as they can't rely on Armagh (or Dublin beating Derry) to accommodate. Strong team named from Armagh even though they're the only county involved with nothing at all to play for this weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Silke007

Meath have huge injury concerns with up to 7 players injured. Meath Team named wouldn't be team playing. Costello is out, he's Meath best player. If he is out for the year, it would be huge blow to Meath. Kerry have midfielders missing. Meath are down 4 midfielders with Jack Flynn, Ronan Jones, Jack kinlough all guaranteed midfield starters now out for the year. While Conor Gray is still only recovering from pneumonia and lots of injuries can only make bench. Also there are rumours Meath will be missing another 2 players. Allot of the talk is kerry have few injuries but Meath will have more injuries to key players. Costello is the big one, its hamstring, so there has to be issue will he play again this year.

Also unlikely especially with Meath injuries. Meath are trying to do something very unique. It is very rare for any team to beat Dublin & kerry in same year in the championship. As far as I can only 6 counties have ever beaten Kerry and Dublin in same year in championship. They are Meath Tyrone Armagh Cork Offaly kildare.

Only 4 leinster teams in 140 years have beaten Dublin and kerry in same year in championship They are

    Meath 2001

    Kildare 1998

    Offaly 1982

    Kildare 1927

As far as I can see Only 4 teams outside leinster have beaten Dublin and kerry in same year in championship They are

    Tyrone 2008

    Tyrone 2005

    Armagh 2002

    Cork 1989

Only 8 times have teams beaten kerry and Dublin in same championship in same year. 7 of those 8 teams went onto win All Ireland, the other kildare in 1998 reached All Ireland final. Meath were to beat kerry after beating Dubs, which is unlikely, Meath would be youngest team ever in history of gaelic football ever to beat Kerry and Dublin in same championship in same year. With average age of Meath team 23. Bookies have this at 8 pt win for kerry, with Meath injuries that seems to be fair enough.

It's no surprise that Armagh have a strong team named.

If they played a weakened team this weekend then it would be a month long break for their stronger players.

That's a bit too long in this day and age.

Derry v Dublin and Donegal v Mayo seem set to be the better battles this weekend from the perceived contenders. The risk of knockout is what is adding to the build up. No more shadow boxing.

That's my take on it as well, and they'll want minutes into the legs of Grimley and Rian.

That said, regardless of how game is going, I think Geezer will make his first changes at half time and others will follow early. It's just about keeping as sharp as possible. Soupy will play the whole match, so imagine Grugan will come on for someone like Conaty just to give him the break and make sure of no injury.

I'll go for derry and galway wins. I know armagh have a good squad but no way they'll risk injuries or going all out. Newry will be a good advantage to derry.

Tomorrow. Donegal to beat mayo and monaghan to best down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,504 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Obviously hope your wrong re Derry. But I am a bit apprehensive. Dublin will be very Con and Bugler dependent for spark .

If Derry shut down those two. And put a man on Kilkenny- don’t let him float around free. They they have a great chance.
If Derry get their kick outs right I expect them to win ball in midfield Basically a better midfield than Dublin’s. Man for man.

Dublin don’t kick enough two pointers so Derry have nothing to worry about on that. More about shutting down Con and Bugler who like to run their man. And stop Kilkenny creating.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Womens League soccer games at Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers called off due to weather. Lots of rain in Dundalk. I wonder what is the plan if one of the two games in a group is rained off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,641 ✭✭✭MfMan

Any possibility of a pitch inspection in Newry? If it's called off, Armagh/Galway will also have to be you'd imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,704 ✭✭✭Charles Babbage

Páirc Esler is not called the marshes for nothing.

However, calling off another game with thousands of people going to it because another pitch in the group was unplayable might be a step too far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75,793 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

Are they not handing an advantage though?

Fairness would mean it is both or none.

*Or should that be 'boat'? Horrendous rain here in Monaghan for the last hour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,704 ✭✭✭Charles Babbage

If the pitch is not playable then it is not playable. But if had driven from Galway or Armagh and the pitch was playable then I'd be rightly pissed (as well as pissed upon) and Galway would be rightly pissed as they should have a game next week.

Would the same apply if the other game was called off because of some other reason?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,530 ✭✭✭✭km79

Rory Grugan is managing a knock. No way he will be risked at all. Would be crazy to risk him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,641 ✭✭✭MfMan

Wonder if the GAA had ever considered this possibility. Would have thought though that both or none had to be played together.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75,793 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

I'd be even more pissed if another team got an advantage.

    Horses for courses I suppose.

As I mentioned before the Down Louth game in Newry had a delayed start due to heavy traffic. The game will have to start on time today.
