Reports that "There are 4,800 activated national guard and marine personnel in LA, compared to the 2,500 troops in Iraq and 1,500 in Syria."

    Ah, sure, it's grand.

The problem for the GOP is, while he's their president and party leader, that he doesn't care about the party, only himself. As long as there's free board and lodging for him courtesy of the taxpayer, everyone else can go swing. The Republicans in the individual states should be aware he doesn't share the glory with them, only the blame in his failures.

Ref the situation in the cities and states where Trump claims there are rioters and looters burning the cities down, wins for him there won't be worth the paper they're written on, they're things which will be gone in the wind once he's gone. Fox News and the Daily Mail will be shredding and burning any evidence of their praising his actions.

His 2 I/C has to be aware that he'll be on his own when Trump passes on to greener pastures. Ad for the White House staffers: alas poor Miller etc, we knew him well. Homan nailed his future to the mast when he said he'd arrest Newsom. His almost instant recanting showed he knew no one would support him if he did. The more strident-voiced ones can count on being told rudely their services are no longer required. Vance won't want reminders of past failures and ghosts haunting the White House. He'll have loads to burn and delete to feel in any way safe. I can see him having a completely different style of diplomatic conversations with foreign leaders than Trump.

The HSA agencies will presumably do their best to ensure they keep their share of the taxpayer funding they've got now but who-ever takes over from Trump will be faced with the Trump promises of reducing the federal taxes imposed on the taxpayer. He/she and the Sec Treasury will have swing the federal cost axe to stay ahead in the popularity game.

One thing that showed which way the wind is blowing in LA is the number of Mexicans flags, and not the Stars and Stripes, being waved about on the streets by peaceful demonstrators. It surprised me. Trump ensured a larger turnout for the Democrats in voting time and put a hole in the GOP boat. If Trump were to deploy more military in other cities in the way he's done in LA, the same vote result would follow there. New York would probably be a re-dedicated city for the Dems.

One thing I wish for the US is that no nutjob of any variety shows up in Washington on Saturday. Malice is not what it needs right now.

One hopes there will be a cease-fire between the US [immigration services] treatment of visitors and the other two countries [Mexico and Canada] as all three are jointly hosting the World Cup matches.

Like the dynamic ticket pricing they are using for the club World Cup?! Had to reduce ticket prices from $230 to $55 to avoid empty stadiums 😂

    Thats funny.

Not so long ago you were petrified Trump was going to invade Canada, that he was going to invade Greenland and that he was going to take back the Panama Canal.

You were petrified he was actually genuine in his threats to impose draconian tariffs on Canada and it wasnt just a bargaining tool.

I think it is you who will literally believe anything Trump says.

Don't think soccer is huge in the states. Huge population though you'd think they could fill a stadium.

Of course he is in it for himself.

    Most of these guys are.

Came across this perfect description of maga earlier, sums up why we shouldn't be too worried about a potential civil war. They're not smart enough or brave enough for one.

    "Most are not warriors.

They’re out-of-shape, insecure, jealous small-town boys who peaked in high school, still clinging to stories from when they “almost went pro” or “should’ve been in the military.”

They’re proud of being able to drink a case of light beer, drive a truck, and scream about freedom while their knees buckle from sugar and rage.

They’re easy to manipulate because they don’t ask questions.

    They don’t read.

    They react.

They memorize memes like scripture and repeat them like gospel.

They think being loud equals being right.

They think the world is laughing with them.

    It’s not.

The world’s laughing at them, when it’s not just ignoring them entirely.

Here’s the thing: MAGA America isn’t just backward.

It’s boring. MAGA folks are simply subsimple.

There’s nothing imaginative about it. No new culture. No innovation. No ideas.

    They don’t invent, they imitate.

    They don’t challenge, they chant.

It’s the same five phrases over and over.

The same flag. The same truck. The same outfit.

    Patriot cosplay.

And that’s why the world doesn’t just hate MAGA.

    It forgets it.

Because once the shouting stops, there’s nothing under the hood."

    More own goals.

Again, Trump is very serious about taking Greenland and Canada, and Canadians took it seriously enough to vote for Mark Carney. He has also been serious enough to repeat his desire to take Greenland and Panama Canal, which again has gotten traction with regards to action to mitigate Trumps wishes.

You might notice, the main difference in all of this is that the stuff that is happening right now is in America, where he he actually has control. You would be kinda correct, were it not for ICE actually raiding Home Depot and rounding up people in the street right now.

There is one thing to believe everything he says versus a lie, it is another thing to see him and his despots lie to cover their filthy actions.

Liek most Trump supporters, you are viewing it as black and white, and you are not applying an ounce of logic to it. But that is your desire, so keep going if you wish.

Im the one not applying an ounce of logic ?

    Thats laughable.

Trump taking Canada is utterly preposterous.

Trump taking Greenland is highly unlikely, also the Panama canal.

    Logic dictates this.

Trump has no track record for invading peaceful nations.

Im the realist in all this. You are not making realistic claims.

The Club World Cup is a meaningless club tournament that no one really wanted or asked for.

There are no stakes, apart from a substantial amount of money for the clubs involved.

The 2026 World Cup will be sold out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,130 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

The realist that knows when Trump is lying but also telling the truth? He doesn't have a sense of humour so the likihood of him telling a joke is remote.

I don't need to be a realist or anything like that, I can use my eyes and ears to observe the mountain of evidence of Trumps actions. Again, here in Canada it was taken very, very seriously, same as well with Greenland. If we go with your "logic" here, he was lying…but he sent tweet and spent time on it, so that sounds very presidential.

But again, you have a direct line to Trumps intentions here, we are all wrong, of course. Sounds logical.

In which the poster proposes that it is a good thing that the sitting president is a prolific f**king liar.…

    Embedded for posterity

While there are issues around AI and that the call was actually a few days ago, rather than yesterday, I'm mystified by the fact that he apparently has Newsom's direct mobile number in his phone?

Surely the US Government would have private, highly secure lines of communication with Governors/Senators offices etc?
That's also putting aside the fact that they are obviously not the best of friends, lol, so why would Newsom give him his cellfone number.
Then again, maybe it is actually the Governor's office line but Trump in his wisdom, has it tagged as that.

How many troops will be in this parade on Saturday?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,866 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

There was an article posted here a couple of weeks ago (link below) and basically he has refused to give up his personal iPhone and use a secure phone. He spends all day calling people on that phone, cause I’m sure everyone is just dying to listen to the windbag.

Interesting choice of pocket square from the drunk. He should have just worn the Confederate flag and be done with it.

It's reassuring that the man in charge of half of the mutually assured destruction doctrine, should not be taken seriously when he makes threats

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,480 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

They're laughable because trump always chickens out when slightly threatened. Where he can put pen to paper to get his way, he does so with impunity as we've seen with the pardons he's throwing about to rioters, fraudsters and grifters while going after the previous administration as much as he can (lucky Biden easily outsmarted him there).

However, it is dangerous because if a weak imbecile like trump can find a way to take Canada, Greenland or the canal by putting pen to paper (or an auto scribe) he will do so, he's purely limited by his continual incompetence and not having a Cheney to help out.

Just remember, he has continually proven he will try and do these things, and as US president, the risk is he would destroy things to get there (and ultimately be unsuccessful anyway, but with literal and figurative fires everywhere).

It's like that stupid ww3 idiocy trumpers cluck about, very unlikely to happen but trump will find ways to push it if it benefits him slightly and then the trumpers cluck it everywhere.

Clearly civil rights in America no longer exists- the government are acting like many South American dictatorships now- there’s absolutely no difference between them

No different to Musks Nazi salute - they “test the water” with such Nazi imagery and if it goes down well it becomes the norm - they’re essentially “grooming” the American people - they’re no better than pedophiles

Not the kind of stakes that are going to get fans to sell out stadiums though…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,335 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

What a pathetic line of argument.

Trump is threatening everyone. It would be preposterous to ignore those threats.

The fact that hes an unstable idiot who can say and do anything is not a plus on the pro Trump column

    Chomsky(2017) on the Republican party

"Has there ever been an organisation in human history that is dedicated, with such commitment, to the destruction of organised human life on Earth?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,253 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

How can a "realist" be happy that the president is an unstable and apparently 90% of his speech is just unrealistic?
