It probably will work out but my point was Qatar didn't have 2 other hosts alongside them. The US does and they don't get along right now with the other two especially people arriving from Mexico in droves. Vance already made comments about it recently regarding the upcoming club wc.

I think the penny dropped for him that there is a path to the White House out of all this if he's plays it right. He's going in hard.

And he'd never lie to the press to suit his agenda now would he??

There are even stories by prisoners in Stalin's GULAG that they encountered other inmates that still supported the regime.

Why? FIFA has conclusively proven that it is morally bankrupt. At least the US didn't use slave labour to build its stadiums.

    RE: the Fort Bragg "speech":

"internal 82nd Airborne Division communications reviewed by Military.com reveal a tightly orchestrated effort to curate the optics of Trump's recent visit, including handpicking soldiers for the audience based on political leanings and physical appearance.

One unit-level message bluntly saying: "No fat soldiers."

"If soldiers have political views that are in opposition to the current administration and they don't want to be in the audience then they need to speak with their leadership and get swapped out," another note to troops said

The insecure clown made sure he had the clapping seals behind him.

I like that Jimmy Kimmel ended his segment with a clip of multiple previous presidents talking about the virtues of immigration.

My point was if I was a football fan who was planning a trip to next years world cup most of whom might have spent years saving up money to witness what is for most people a once in a lifetime experience I would feel very nervous about travelling there the way things are. My reference to FIFA was only meant to be about how much of a shitshow this tournament could turn into and the poor punter will end up paying not FIFA themselves. FIFA being nervous meaning they lose money. When that happens the poor punter at the bottom of the ladder has to.

ICE have form for violent raids on hauling away peaceful immigrants families though.

Has Homan given a public commitment that no such raids will occur in LA?

    Nope.

So when a huge ICE presence is observed near a location immigrants are known to congregate, understandably there is concern about detenion of immigrants.

Why is ICE (border and customs) investigating money laundering in downtown LA without involving local law enforcement? If they werent there for immigration raid?

The protests started over detentions of workers in a Home Depot parking lot, as well as the raids Homan notes.

As usual the Trump administration is not giving the full picture.

The tissue of lies is the false narrative the administration is spinning re sending in the National Guard and Marines for which there is no actual justification. And indeed an act Trump himself has called such an act an abuse of power. So there you go, a tacit admission this just a power play by Trump against a Democratic state.

I'm not sure I can trust anyone in the Trump administration when it's an article of faith within that bubble that there are, at the least, major concerns about the 2020 election, despite it being the most heavily audited and examined election in recent US history, if not all time.

That wouldn't be to say you can dismiss other claims out of hand, but they would require a good bit of 3rd party verification before gaining credence.

Its mostly posturing by Newsom, trying to build his own profile much like Cuomo did during Covid.

Remember people saying how they thought Cuomo would make a great President, when he stood up to Trump.

Alot of people even said he should get the nomination ahead of Biden such was the media campaign around Cuomo.

Then the truth started to come out about Cuomo.

These guys are all in in for their own glory.

And a slightly more recent poll (June 5-9) shows him underwater on immigration (-11) & (-16) on deportations. These are his lowest numbers across the board this term from the pollster.

The NW article you linked compares polls on the topic from 8 years ago to put a shine on it. I think trends over the last 6 months are more pertinent. Even in the polls you cite above his only alleged favourable policy area isn’t exactly an overwhelming success if his best issue polls put him at +1. Moreover his overall general approval isn’t recovering. Sure his partisan support, as always, remains intractable. But since the outset of this term he has lost significantly among independents & Democrats have never been this aligned against him. It will be interesting to see how Americans react to him throwing himself a Moscow/Pyongyang style birthday bash parade to the tune of $45 million at taxpayer’s expense.

The stadiums will be packed to the rafters.

The demand for tickets will be immense, FIFA are planning on using dynamic pricing such is the predicted demand.

The US has the infrastructure to run a big tournamanent, they do do so regularly.

People are believing too much nonsense published in the media.

Just like the Homan explanation for the Raids, the media have an agenda.

Of all the spineless, gutless, and sycophantic Republicans, Mike Johnson is the most spineless, gutless, and sycophantic. A pathetic hypocritical weasel of a man. Just a gormless smirk in a suit. The fact that he has "Christian" as part of his Twitter bio is either sarcasm or a shocking display of self-delusion.

It is surreal… Trump is a destroyer of what we know and yet there are some who ham shank over his every word

This speech by Charlie Angus, ex-MP in Canada, is worth listening to. He barely touches on what is going on within the US, but his list of trump activities and statements that affect the rest of the world, and particularly Canada, is disturbing.

As usual, the left’s entire violence-justifying narrative is a tissue of lies.

    More own goals.

You actually believe this administration? If you do, you will literally believe anything.

I don't think you realise the scale of delusion that consumes Johnson. He believes literally that God spoke with him and that he was handpicked by God to be Speaker.

A man that believes he was handpicked by God and is on a mission to save America from depravity is a deeply frightening spectre. Anything can be justified in this quest if it eventually leads to the desired outcome.

Reports that "There are 4,800 activated national guard and marine personnel in LA, compared to the 2,500 troops in Iraq and 1,500 in Syria."

    Ah, sure, it's grand.

The problem for the GOP is, while he's their president and party leader, that he doesn't care about the party, only himself. As long as there's free board and lodging for him courtesy of the taxpayer, everyone else can go swing. The Republicans in the individual states should be aware he doesn't share the glory with them, only the blame in his failures.

Ref the situation in the cities and states where Trump claims there are rioters and looters burning the cities down, wins for him there won't be worth the paper they're written on, they're things which will be gone in the wind once he's gone. Fox News and the Daily Mail will be shredding and burning any evidence of their praising his actions.

His 2 I/C has to be aware that he'll be on his own when Trump passes on to greener pastures. Ad for the White House staffers: alas poor Miller etc, we knew him well. Homan nailed his future to the mast when he said he'd arrest Newsom. His almost instant recanting showed he knew no one would support him if he did. The more strident-voiced ones can count on being told rudely their services are no longer required. Vance won't want reminders of past failures and ghosts haunting the White House. He'll have loads to burn and delete to feel in any way safe. I can see him having a completely different style of diplomatic conversations with foreign leaders than Trump.

The HSA agencies will presumably do their best to ensure they keep their share of the taxpayer funding they've got now but who-ever takes over from Trump will be faced with the Trump promises of reducing the federal taxes imposed on the taxpayer. He/she and the Sec Treasury will have swing the federal cost axe to stay ahead in the popularity game.

One thing that showed which way the wind is blowing in LA is the number of Mexicans flags, and not the Stars and Stripes, being waved about on the streets by peaceful demonstrators. It surprised me. Trump ensured a larger turnout for the Democrats in voting time and put a hole in the GOP boat. If Trump were to deploy more military in other cities in the way he's done in LA, the same vote result would follow there. New York would probably be a re-dedicated city for the Dems.

One thing I wish for the US is that no nutjob of any variety shows up in Washington on Saturday. Malice is not what it needs right now.

One hopes there will be a cease-fire between the US [immigration services] treatment of visitors and the other two countries [Mexico and Canada] as all three are jointly hosting the World Cup matches.

Like the dynamic ticket pricing they are using for the club World Cup?! Had to reduce ticket prices from $230 to $55 to avoid empty stadiums 😂

    Thats funny.

Not so long ago you were petrified Trump was going to invade Canada, that he was going to invade Greenland and that he was going to take back the Panama Canal.

You were petrified he was actually genuine in his threats to impose draconian tariffs on Canada and it wasnt just a bargaining tool.

I think it is you who will literally believe anything Trump says.

Don't think soccer is huge in the states. Huge population though you'd think they could fill a stadium.

Of course he is in it for himself.

    Most of these guys are.

Came across this perfect description of maga earlier, sums up why we shouldn't be too worried about a potential civil war. They're not smart enough or brave enough for one.

    "Most are not warriors.

They’re out-of-shape, insecure, jealous small-town boys who peaked in high school, still clinging to stories from when they “almost went pro” or “should’ve been in the military.”

They’re proud of being able to drink a case of light beer, drive a truck, and scream about freedom while their knees buckle from sugar and rage.

They’re easy to manipulate because they don’t ask questions.

    They don’t read.

    They react.

They memorize memes like scripture and repeat them like gospel.

They think being loud equals being right.

They think the world is laughing with them.

    It’s not.

The world’s laughing at them, when it’s not just ignoring them entirely.

Here’s the thing: MAGA America isn’t just backward.

It’s boring. MAGA folks are simply subsimple.

There’s nothing imaginative about it. No new culture. No innovation. No ideas.

    They don’t invent, they imitate.

    They don’t challenge, they chant.

It’s the same five phrases over and over.

The same flag. The same truck. The same outfit.

    Patriot cosplay.

And that’s why the world doesn’t just hate MAGA.

    It forgets it.

Because once the shouting stops, there’s nothing under the hood."
