Does anyone just give footvax to a portion of the flock like susceptible sheep or just the rams?

    are there any issues?

Absolutely plagued with footrot here in ewes and hoggets this year. Can't get on top of it, between antibiotics from the vet, blue spray and footbathing nothing seems to be working in the long term. It wasn't a problem at housing but since turnout it has become rampant. One group of 60 ewes could have 20 badly lame sheep in it. The injections from the vets have helped some but not entirely. Is footbax the way forward? What is the cost per ewe? Does it help cure lameness or do they need to be got right before giving the vaccination?

Lameness is some dose. I can't tell you anything about the footvax as I didn't try it but just that there is a way of getting on top of it without it. I had a big problem with it in 2023. Traditionally we did nothing for lamenes and had no issue but in recent years I have been increasing numbers and buying in more. I found it really demoralizing dealing with it. Anyway I culled as many as I could afford, treated some and I got a footbath. Now everytime the sheep are in for treatments all sheep including lambs run through the footbath. I also built a batch footbath but I don't use it much as it's a lot more hassle to get them into that but it could be useful if I have an outbreak again. Anyway right now I'm back to where I used to be i.e. very few lame sheep.

Using footvax for a couple of years, almost completely cured foot rot ,those that didn't respond culled.

Still issues with scald in the lambs footbaths when we get time.

Have been using Footvax a couple years now and find it good, like the heptavac we give them two six weeks apart the first year and the one every year after after that.

It is very effective and we feel the lambs benefit too, however we are only using it two years so early yet to give it the thumbs up. We did it the first year because we couldn't get ahead of the lameness and vaccinated in an effort to clear it before they went into the shed

Thanks for the feedback. Would this be a good time of year to them or would I be better waiting?

I think it affects their milk so maybe give first shot close to weaning. Also be careful not to jab yourself with the needle, it can cause you issues

I might try that. Have only ewe lamb to hogget system. I've been doubling up my zinc sulfate. Its a terrible year for lameness.
