    Al Hilal upping the game.

Hopefully if they get that one over the line, Napoli will redirect some of that cash to us for Garnacho.

Where are people expecting us to finish next season? Assuming we Mbeumo, a CF and MF, and maybe a GK

Top half of the table. Over 38 games it wasn't a blip to finish 15th, just a reflection of the team as it currently stands. The teams that finished in the top 6 aren't going to stand aside next season - they will be looking to improve too, though Aston Villa are somewhat vulnerable, but the same was said about Villa the year before. You have to remember people were saying 8th was totally unacceptable in 23/24 and United absolutely had to be top 4 for 2024/25. The club went out and had a good transfer window - finished 15th and deservedly so based on performances.

In terms of signings, I don't think GK is all that decisive for improving the team quickly. Goalscorers and wingbacks are far higher up the list in my opinion. It is the lack of goals scored that killed us - only Everton and the teams that got relegated scored less goals than United. Adding 25-30 goals scored to the team next season will do a lot more than cutting 5-10 goals conceded.

Donarumma may be on the way out of PSG, contract negotiations stalled.

Rumoured to be available for around €40m with a year left on his deal but if his main goal is a €230k per week salary, it might be too rich for us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,308 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

We would surely give him €230,000 a week? He played a massive role in PSG winning the Champions League and would be a game changer in our team. Anyway, if he was going, it would be City all over him I’d say.

Outside of the salary, can't see someone like Donarumma having much interest in a team like United at the moment. Too much of a 'project' for the likes of him.

Donnuruma would be a transformative signing for ManU imo. Surprised to read he’s only 26, so will get even better.

Casemiro & Antony back in the Brazilian squad, might do something for their value.

yeah, he broke into the milan team at like 17 or something mad.

real written all over him with courtois at 33 (and increasingly more injury prone). they'll have a quite word and get him for free next summer, or maybe on the cheap this summer.

antony sure - need these internationals to wind down so he can speak with clubs, though his agent should be doing that anyway.

casemiro - i think he is happy to run down his contract, try get into brazil squad for world cup and leave us on a free.

At £35m that would be a no brainer.

Would Mateta be better value than Gyokeres? PL proven, only a year younger, and coming in at a cheaper value might allow you strengthen somewhere else if possible.

I've only seen clips of Mateta so not familiar with his style. With Cunha, Amad, and possibly Mbeumo you'll want someone that will play on the shoulder and look to stretch the defense to create space for others.

This gets talked about as one of Gyokeres strengths. Can Mateta play that way or would Amorim need to tweak stuff for Mateta. Obviously he'd prefer Gyokeres but the club needs to look at what benefits United rather than just what benefits Amorim.

From a footballing perspective, it's sad to see a player of his caliber potentially absent from club football's biggest stages for the foreseeable future or worse perhaps even permanently. I know it's an unreal amount of money but you're basically going there to retire and have an easy life.

It also puts Bruno’s decision into greater context. He’s no longer a spring chicken, yet he still believes he can compete at the highest level in Europe. A true professional right there

Yes much better value. One is PL proven..the other isn't

I’d be absolutely amazed if he’s available for that price.

Only a year left on his contract so wouldn't be out of the norm to be around that price

Mateta doesn't make sense based on style of play.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,844 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

And given his career to date he'd surely hold off signing a new contract when he'd likely triple his wages at United. Even Gyokeres would likely jump at United given his career to date has mostly been Coventry and Sporting. Doubt he's on much at Sporting.

Romano reporting we are going to be parting ways with Garnashers. I'd be a little disappointed to see him leave however if the ego / attitude is not in check he can feck off. Decent fee plus a sell on and we move forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,574 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

2 years. I thought it was one, but his contract runs to 27, with the extention alreay triggered.

I'd dbe surprised at 35m for him.

I would have thought a similar price to Gyokeres tbh.

I' be happy with Mateta, but happier wiith Gyok. i thinik Gyokeres has more potential to be 'the guy', while I think Mateta would be more likely to be an excellent squad player (he'dd be a good dfirst choice next season).

And I get Mateta has 'done it' in the PL, but he was rubbiish til Glasner arrived then went on a great run. then this season gone he got a bunch of goals in an 8 game perioid, but was quite lean either side of it. I wouln't think him the slam dunk others seem to.

I will be ecstatic if Garnacho, Antony, Rashford, Sancho and Onana left this summer.

I wouldn't be sad if Mount or Ugarte left also!

Mainoo I really hope will stay. Nobody else should be allowed go, unless we get a really good offer for Hoijlund.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 428 ✭✭kyleman

Most of this I would agree with but Garnacho is the one that has the talent to make it big if he can control that ego and wish it wasn’t happening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,464 ✭✭✭Quandary

As much as I find Garnacho to be a very exciting player, if he is showing any signs of ego and petulence at this very young age he should be shown the door. For too many years now Utd have indulged too many egos and allowed a culture of player power and lack of professionalism to take root. Pogba, Sancho, Ronaldo, Rashford and apparently now Garnacho…. Im sure there are a few others I have overlooked.

I hope Amorim can force through the reset that is so badly needed.

Time to get Mbeumo wrapped up before Thomas Frank tries to bring him to Spurs...
