He BOUGHT a few companies and then hired people to run them for him. When you're born into wealth that's the easy part.

    There's a huge difference.

However, as we have seen over the past few years he has shown himself to be a wretched disaster and an active detriment to anything he touches.

Exactly - He's nothing more than corporate raider - He swoops in and takes over companies , squeezes out the founders and then installs people to run them for him.

He clearly has a great eye for spotting opportunities and emerging markets/trends and is very skilled at spinning a "vision" that investors buy in to.

But "leadership"..Not so much. Demanding that people do exactly as he says isn't leadership , it's dictatorship. As another poster pointed out , he gets away with that nonsense in the US because it's the US , but he doesn't in Europe - See his court losses over his "Agree to hard-core working or your fired" emails in Twitter here in Ireland.

He is not someone that people will follow, let alone idolise the way the MAGA base do with Trump.

It's a cult of personality that MAGA idiots only have in their heads. If one stands back and actually observes Donald Trump he really has nothing to offer. His only real skill is the ability to talk, and keep talking even when he enters the realm of absolute nonsense which is nearly always. MAGA has conned THEMSELVES in forgiveness mode where Trump is concerned and are willing to lower themselves continually for him and his demonstrable gibberish. They will consistently change the narrative, of their own accord, to protect him.

There was a piece on one of those American late night TV shows a couple of weeks ago where they did a little skit and sent an interviewer out onto the streets to talk to some MAGA clowns. The interviewer asked about Biden and his "bone spurs" and how it got him out of doing service during Vietnam. The Trump worshipper said how that was awful, and said other negative things about Biden when the interviewer mentioned other things that "Biden" had done, when they were really things that Trump had done.

Then the interviewer said Opps sorry, I said Biden when I meant Trump, can we do the interview over and asked the same questions but in relation to Trump this time. And bish, bash, bosh, the the interviewee's tune completely changed to one of making cheap excuses for Trump.

You simply cannot make people do that, whether you're a leader of a cult or not. People have to do that to themselves.

Even Hitler didn't enjoy that kind of hypocritical self deluded devotion.

Reminds me of the bill burr steve jobs story!

Put a load of geniuses in a room and shout "GET ONNNN IT"

He clearly has a great eye for spotting opportunities and emerging markets/trends and is very skilled at spinning a "vision" that investors buy in to.

    Has he though?

I mean, you don't have to be a genius to see that EV's are going to be the way of the future, there's people without two shillings to rub together and just an inter cert that could tell you that. Space X already existed before Musk went near it and TBH fu*k what the end game of that is actually supposed to be, and he's made an absolute balls up of Twitter and turned it into a cesspool, not to mention the incredible loss maker that that pigsty now is.

I've never bought into the Musk myth. He's always seemed a bit off to me, which I put down to his autism. But it goes deeper than that. I genuinely think that there's absolutely nothing to the guy except the fact that he was born wealthy and has used that wealth to gain more. Other than that he endlessly spouts bollocks, has shown himself to be a complete spoofer with a fragile ego and has been easily played by MAGA, the obvious bad guys in the room.

He's an irresponsible manchild that has the luxury of immense wealth that allows him to do everything for shits and giggles.

Agreed - The Actual GOP agenda is f*cking awful for the typical MAGA voter , but for years they've tried to hide it behind fear of the "other".

In Trump they've found the perfect vehicle for that - He has a boundless confidence in his own brilliance and can babble on endlessly without ever feeling stupid or guilty about what he is saying or doing.

The GOP will do all the things they want , but without the guy that can consume all the media oxygen with his "show" they will get found out by most.

The MAGA core are actually ok if their lives are sh!t , just as long as the "other" guys life is a bit worse - They'll happily scarf down a sh!t sandwich as long as the other guys sh!t sandwich has broken glass in it.

So as long as Trump and the GOP can continue to give them someone to blame and someone to feel superior to , they will take whatever pain comes there way in the deluded belief that they have a pathway to betterment.

I agree with most of what you are saying..

He's a weirdo and full of it , but at least in terms of Tesla he got in their 15/20 years ago and saw the opportunities early.

Perhaps his skill was in convincing Governments to give him all kinds of grants and the creation of the emissions credits years ago which resulted in most Car companies buying credits off Tesla to hit their emission goals such that for many years almost all the company profits came from those sales and not from actual car sales.

His ability to get investors to pump the Tesla stock to utterly ludicrous levels is certainly a skill and that money is what allowed him to do all the other things he has done since.

I don't admire the guy one bit , He's a leech at best but whatever skills he has , he has used them to amass a vast fortune for himself.

It's built on sand however and I suspect that his recent actions and behaviour put his whole empire at massive risk.

It's a little bit telling how Trump and Musk's fans only seem to show in this thread occasionally these days and for most of the last six months.

Well, first off, the electric car has been a thing for decades. A lot longer than just the time that Musk has been with Tesla. It was killed off by vested interests in the 90's. Tesla's biggest innovation in the area was name branding and that wasn't down to Elon. I'd also question how much Musk actually did to get investors on board too. I wouldn't be surprised in the least to find that it was people he paid to do that groundwork. Musk may have seen an opportunity in Tesla and pumped some of his wealth into it, but that's easy when you have money to burn. And if it went tits up like Twitter, sure no bother.

It's easy to absorb losses when you have the wealth to lose if things don't pan out. So I don't really believe that Musk has any real skill. I don't think he's a stupid guy either, but I also don't think he's that smart and he certainly hasn't the business savvy that some credit him with. The reality is that Musk would be bankrupt by X alone, if he hadn't the cushion of wealth and SpaceX is an abominable waste of money.

But he's a guy with loads of money that pumped some of it into things that worked out, largely due to the hard work of other people and, more than likely, in spite of him.

On your last point, assuming that this spat between him and Trump isn't just some dog and pony show to cover something else going on, it may well see his businesses going further into the weeds. But in the end it won't affect Musk. He'll just walk away and do nothing but spend for the rest of his days. Even without Tesla, X or SpaceX, he has more than enough money to last several lifetimes over and he's already in his 50's.

It must be weird to be that Trumper who bought a Tesla just to "own the libs" and now needs to off load it.

I can see Trump staying in office for the next 10 years. I don't see him leaving the White House in 2029, whether he wins the election, loses it or if one even takes place. We will know come this time if the checks and balances have held, or if they are forever lost.

The successor is definitely going to be one of his children. I don't see it being Vance or any other outsider. There is no way that Trump is going to hand a dynasty to anyone outside of the family.

The oldest two sons are bozos, as indeed is Trump himself, but they both lack the reptilian cunning of Don from Queens and I would be surprised if one of them succeeded him. The two daughters don't seem to have any interest whatsoever.

That really only leaves Barron. Barron is a dark horse and I'm placing my bet on him.

You think Trump will live for another 10 years? That’s funny.

I can understand Hitler having and gaining his fanbase.

    1. Versailles was an extremely harsh treaty on Germany. Loss of territory, not being able to have troops in the Rhineland. Only allowed a tiny army. Germany being solely blamed for WW1. Loss of prestige. Loss of colonies. French troops taking coal from the Sarr in the mid 1920s etc.

    2. The Great Depression seriously effected Germany when American loans were called in.

    3. Hitler was an excellent orator and pioneered electioneering techniques like flying to several rallies in a day.

As for Trump, he had nothing like that to tap into, the rust bucket regions weren't as impoverished as Germany in the early 30s.

All I can take from MAGA and Trump's popularity is that the US has a serious percentage of idiots. Yet you Google IQ and educational levels and the US scores highly. I can't make head nor tail of how the Trump cult grew. We're the Clintons, Hillary in particular, and Obama that unpopular and out of touch with their people. It didn't feel like that when they were in power.

55c excise duty on a pint. 23% vat which presumably the publican claims back.

Increased costs are the go to excuse for farmers, restaurants, hauliers etc. even if the publicans costs went up say ten thousand in a year they're selling tens of thousands of pints in a year so the cost of the pint should only have a few cents added.

    Sorry. Wrong thread.

    Can't delete of course.

Bannon has played the waiting game, stayed in shadows, drinking, but now he is back and he is going all out to destroy Musk. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him back in the White House… and then thrown out again after a few months.

They don't seem to care about the billionaires that have become even richer because of it.

The only reason most of them would care about people making money off of it, would be if the people making money were not white

Not disputing any of that tbh.

THe Scientoligists survived the passing of Ron L Hubbard and the Mormons survived Brigham Young where there was credible evidence to suggest he was a war criminal so I do not expect MAGA to just fade away with Trump gone. If he doesn`t get his BIG BILL through, or doesn`t gets it through without it going back to Congress to be watered down, it will weaken him. Either way after the mid terms the successsor hunt will be on.

Trump got himself where he is not by any great talent. He got himself there through social media and a war chest he used to threaten any republicans that looked as if they would oppose him. $300 million of that from Musk leading up to the 2024 election. Musk had pledged a further $100 million for the mid terms that Trump would have used in the same way. I cannot see Musk now giving him that, so the question is will Musk now use that money attempting to torpedo his BIG BILL and threaten republican politicians who support it in those mid terms by doing a Trump using his wealth and social platform to fund and back others.

Musk has nothing to lose. He has more money than he could burn in several lifetimes. If the both de-escalated Musk might just lick his wounds and let it go, but I`d doubt that as the BIG BILL will do Tesla serious damage on top of what he has done to the brand himself. Trump`s ego will make sure he won`t keep his big gob shut. Especially now when he knows what TACO means.

They don't care about Peter Thiel, the closest thing there is to an actual vampire, creating a list of Americans' data via his company Palantir. A greater violation of the rights of the citizenry one can't imagine short of concentration camps and nobody bats an eyelid.

They stood up to the most powerful empire there at the time 250 years ago (albeit with massive assistance from the French) and now they're so utterly servile. It's pathetic. Who exactly is the opposition? CNN, who waited until the day Joe Biden announced he had prostate cancer to release their grubby book about him? The Democrats?

Thiel is as idiotic and invested in his own mind as Musk is. When it comes to Palantir; Karp is the one to watch out for. He truly does seem like the devil incarnate. That man wants a WW3 to happen tomorrow. His entire business model is built on the idea of it happening.

Another case of Trump not being on the side of law and order, having the DOJ cancel it's defence against the wrongful death suite initiated by Babbits family.
