Success! Very relieved Dad here after messing up the preorder. Was sixth in the queue after arriving just after 10. Straight in at 12 and got the Mario Kart bundle he wanted. Delighted!

The poor staff at Jervis, was going at a crawl pace as they'd to look for each individual console by serial and there were an absolute tonne of people in the queue. Still over half the queue there when I left all the way down the block. Only home now!

In fairness, everyone with a preorder in Smyths in Swords got their console, and they had quite a few for those queuing that didn't.

Inside, they had a little Mario Kart World tourney going on, goodie bags (pen, journal, poster).

Plenty of people padding out the preorder with games, cameras and memory cards.

Plus, there appeared to be a push for people to clap at the doors opening, count down to the doors opening and so on.

My son informed me that I had no whimsy.

I didn't mind, I was cold and tired!

I'm now playing the refresh game with my DPD tracking waiting for that 'On a van for delivery' update. Just the next stage of delivery anxiety haha

Edit: Woop "Your parcel is on a van and due for delivery" I've now progressed to the 'waiting for timeslot' stage of delivery anxiety

Edit 2: Got my delivery window, now onto the final stage of delivery anxiety. The 'Will the driver just not deliver it for some reason' stage

DPD emails saying delivery around noon today for me. 🙂

For any of the folks that have their Switch 2's, did any of you link the console to the original Switch rather than do the system transfer? I see that the transfer process factory reset's the Switch 1 which I don't want to do.

Seems there are still some in stock in Swords and various places around the country. I ordered one for myself. Says it will be delivered tomorrow… We'll see. Obviously I'm assuming these are devices left after pre-orders are complete. Glad people got their machines. ""We are cool dads"…. Yeah, like you bought for the kids. 😀 "But honey, I know she's only 3 months old but I STILL say converting the attic to a model railway hub is for her. She'll love it…. honestly it's not for me"

I did a system transfer last night from an OLED to the Switch 2 and it didn’t factory reset the OLED. It said all save data will remain on both consoles except for Pokémon and Animal Crossing which was removed from the OLED after the transfer.

Picked up the console last night from Smyths. Still in the box, will take a look after work. How long does the day 1 patch take to install, and how long for MKW to download/install?

    EDIT: this is answered above.

    I'll ask some advice.

i have a switch 1. I've never used Nintendo online, I have a very casual approach to gaming.

There's one main account on the switch, and then one "family account member" account.

I should have a switch 2 coming today.

Any approach I ahoshould take to setting up the new one so as much as possible transfers over?

Can I still keep both active? I mostly have digital copies of games.

Until you get home and get questioned about where your daughter is, due to having skipped that step.

But then ye start playing Mario Kart and all is forgiven and forgotten.

My kiddo is getting an oled switch for switchmas and a lesson, this is why we work hard, so we can have nice things when we want them.

Yeah, that's the reason, I bought it to teach them a lesson that working hard pays off 😉

Mine is also out for delivery and as excited as I am about it it's a Christmas present for my son (Ordered now for one less headache in the run up). Might be no harm in taking a look right.....

Cheers for that. That’s interesting as any of the videos I’ve seen show a warning saying it will be reset, maybe they are out if date now. Not going to risk it anyway and will just setup the S2 without the transfer.

Quick question - physically how big is the Switch 2 packaging? Going to nip in at lunchtime to pick up my preorder but wanted to check if the bike is an option or if I need the car.

Collected the pre-order at Smyths Navan last night. There were over 100 people there and a nice buzz. They divided the line into 2 - one for pre-orders and another for those hoping to get one on the night. They then handed out numbers so that those first in line without a pre-order could be guaranteed a console. Unfortunately there were quite a few on the end of the line who didn't get a number.

When we finally got into the store (we were first in the pre-order line and they let in four at a time) it took about 15 minutes for them to process the order as the system had decided to slow to a crawl, obviously due to the surge in usage across their stores. Hopefully it sped up, otherwise there was a long night in for staff and customers!

It took about 20 minutes to transfer data from the Switch 1, then another 40 to download the Mario Kart World game (it's not a physical copy). We also got Split Fiction in Smyths, but didn't realise it was a download code inside the box! So no gaming was had until this morning.

First impressions: console looks and feels great, very smooth and fast visuals on all games, much improved store interface. TOTK S2 edition looks absolutely amazing in 4k HDR. I'm in work now, might have to take a half day…
