Sushko can be overly optimistic, hopefully the attack is as sustained as he says.

    image.png

That is one of the pillars supporting the central section that has been targeted. It's not a solid mass of concrete all the way to the bedrock, you can see in the photo below how the column sits atop the piles underneath.

    image.png

I don't understand why Sushko is now saying that the sea drones are clearing a path through the defences. There are no barriers for the shipping channel; I assume there is considerable active monitoring of the activity in the water there because of that. But if they have weakened a particular support it would make sense to target that one again with the aim of bringing down the span and blocking the channel.

My post was stating fact not emotions. My sources were Ukrainian sources. Ukraine and Russia align pretty closely on where the front line is.

I'm often depressed and elated depending on the news coming from this war but I try not to be delusional. Ukraine are claiming this is the gains and they've accelerated the last month.

Here's some good news for you:

The General Staff has updated the loss report. Instead of +12 aircraft, the number is now +41

After processing additional information from various sources and verifying it — which took some time — we report that the total losses of the occupiers amounted to 41 military aircraft, including strategic bombers and other types of combat aircraft.

Can't wait to see what other aircraft were hit. Hopefully a few fighter jets.

Some info from a link I was sent, translation included.

Naval drones are allegedly breaking through the barriers to the Crimean Bridge, Russian media outlets claim.

The Russian occupation authorities have again blocked vehicle traffic on the Crimean Bridge and halted sea transport, Russian state media reported on Tuesday, June 3.

"The roadstead in the Sevastopol bay has been temporarily closed, and sea passenger transport has suspended its movement," RIA Novosti reported.

Meanwhile, Russians on local Telegram channels are writing that explosions were heard near the bridge.

"The attack on the Crimean bridge continues. A passage is being broken through the barriers. The bridge is closed. The enemy attack continues in the Black Sea area," the Emergency Situations/Crimea reported.

Russian military blogger Vladimir Romanov claims that the Crimean bridge is being attacked by naval drones. According to him, the occupiers were allegedly able to destroy one drone, but the attack is ongoing.

And the pro-Ukrainian Telegram channel Crimean Wind reports that a powerful explosion was heard in Kerch at around 3:00 p.m.

"A helicopter was lifted into the air, flying over the coastline along the strait. There is panic in Kerch public places," the report says.

Russian air defense is operating at Belbek airfield near Sevastopol. Explosions were also heard near Feodosia.

Meanwhile, a Turkish early warning and control aircraft (EWAC) is operating over Romania, which can guide missiles to their target.

A video shot by eyewitnesses also appeared online. It shows the Crimean Bridge shrouded in smoke. This could be either a specially placed smoke screen to make it difficult to aim missiles and UAVs at the bridge, or the aftermath of explosions in the area of the bridge.

Ukraine are pressing every advantage they hold hard right now. No doubt in my mind that there is more to come.

I swear if the Ukrainians manage to collapse that shítty bridge just days after crippling the Vatniks Bomber Fleet this will be the biggest W in the entire war since they ran them out of Kherson and I will be laughing at all the butthurt Vatniks crying their country is falling apart due the consequences of their own stupidity. Been long looking foward to seeing that shítty bridge collapse.

    That’s fair enough

So far we see diametrically opposed approaches to this war

    Russia:

    • waste men on trying to capture fields in middle of nowhere losing all their tanks and armored equipment from the Soviet days
    • Try to paint the war as hopeless to Ukrainians and the west to discourage help
    • Lie lie lie about absolutely everything
    • deliberately target civilians and on military targets

    Ukraine:

    • hit military targets strategic to the war (planes, bridges, refineries, ammo dump)
    • Maintain a K/D ratio which favours their lower population, by grinding Russian meat into mud
    • Expose Russian lies and systematically make their talking points a joke

As I said earlier Ukraine are playing poker whole Russia are playing checkers

We’ve seen in 2022 them trade space for time and how that turned out for Russia for whom it would take decades to recapture what they had in 2022 at start of their invasion

This must have been planning this for a long time.

Huge array of targets have been struck right around the peninsula.

This is large, ongoing and going to be costly to the Russians.

Also, if nothing else, a huge setback for Russian air co-ordination

The Orcs themselves admit that two A-50s were destroyed, which leaves only one still operational.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,131 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

In more bad news - a fourth Orc region has reduced payments made to conscripts for volunteering to be turned into meat. This is thought to indicate they are running out of funds to pay them with. Like the Kerch bridge, the cracks are spreading.

I wouldn't be surprised if a train of Taurus start slamming into the weakened parts of the Kerch bridge.

A real 8647, not a staged one, might silence him for a bit longer than that.

It gets even worse for the orcs, not only have they lost over a third of their strategic bomber fleet, they are now down to their last AWACS.

A total disaster for them. They can't survive on just 1 AWACS, this plane will need constant repairs, maintenance, refurb, etc. There'll be entire periods where the orcs are going to be completely blind as the plane is out of service.

Another orc headquarters completely destroyed by a Ukrainian glide bomb. There'll be very few orcs walking out from that unscathed.

I agree with your post and it's how I view it but this strategy will only have a good outcome for Ukraine if Russia do indeed collapse leading to a total Ukrainian victory. Otherwise the land lost is land lost if Ukraine don't have the means to retrieve it in future. I'll never be happy about that no matter the cost to Russia.

I hope they do but it's not guaranteed Russia Will ever collapse.

    Classic Darth.

Speaking of the bridge, I came across this image which clearly illustrates that setting off a 1,100 kg pile of explosives on the sea floor might be a lot more damaging than the hacked video feed of what happened on the surface, might suggest.

    Kerch Bridge schematic.jpeg

3 Effects on nearby structureThe underwater detonation of an explosive can have serious effects on a nearby
structure (such as a ship or submarine). The same amount of explosive can cause greater damage underwater than it would have caused in air, because water is much less compressible than air.First damaging mechanism (high pressure)Just after the detonation, a shock wave and an expanding high-pressure gas bubble will appear. This shock wave moves at a very high speed and will generate a very high pressure. When it hits the structure, it gives rise to the first damaging mechanism.Second damaging mechanism (whipping effect)While the pressure loading due to the shock impact can be very high, the duration is usually very short compared with the dynamics of the bubble. The explosive products form a high-pressure gas bubble and this bubble expands owing to the high pressure. However, inertia causes the bubble to over-expand and the pressure inside the bubble becomes lower than the surrounding reference pressure; it then stops expanding (for example, the maximum bubble diameter in a typical explosion of a torpedo of 500 kgTNT is of the order of 10 to 20m). The hydrostatic pressure is now larger than the pressure inside the bubble and a collapse phase will follow. If the frequency of the bubble ‘matches’ the eigen-frequency of the structure, it can lead to the so-called ‘whipping’ effect which can potentially constitute the second damaging mechanism.Third damaging mechanism (jet impact)In most cases, in the collapse phase, the attraction of the bubble towards the structure, the influence of gravity and inertia will cause a high-speed water jet to develop. The jet traverses the bubble and impacts on the other side of the bubble surface. This jet can be directed towards the structure and is then associated with a third damaging mechanism.

Accumulating a 1,100 kg pile of explosives means the Ukrainians have an as yet unknown sub surface capability. I'm thinking a remotely piloted subsurface vessel that can carry a substantial cargo of remote drone subs with explosives payloads that can each then swim up to the piles and park. If they had shaped charges and could attach themselves to the piles in the right way, that would be a huge increase in destructive potential.

Frankly this idea seems a bit shaky from point of view of the required energy needed to power all this as it's along way around Crimea.

They targeted probably the strongest part of the bridge. Good first attempt. Hopefully they'll manage to get a few more off and one on a weaker section as well.

The Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov, strongly recommends that citizens of the Russian Federation who are illegally staying on the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea immediately leave the peninsula.

Source: Chubarov in an address on Telegram

Quote: "I am specifically recording the appeal in Russian so that it is clear to Russian citizens who are illegally on the territory of the occupied Crimea. We are talking about those who settled in Crimea from February 27, 2014 to the present day. And also about those who are currently in the occupied Crimea, so to speak, "on vacation".

As you are already aware, the illegally built Kerch Bridge, which connects the occupied Crimea with the territory of the aggressor country - Russia, will soon be demolished. And you may find yourself in a kind of "bag". Therefore, I strongly recommend that you urgently leave the peninsula and go home, to Russia, to the places from where you illegally came to the occupied Crimea."

    Undeserved fair warning.

I presume that from the Crimean Tatar perspective Russians who settled in Crimea from the 1783 annexation under Catherine the Great should leave as well.😁

Proof of what has been said all along about Russia. They have zero interest in peace or stability, negotiations are just warfare by other means. This is why Ukraine has from the outset viewed Russia as negotiating in bad faith.

Senior Russian security official Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday that the point of holding peace talks with Ukraine was to ensure a swift and complete Russian victory."The Istanbul talks are not for striking a compromise peace on someone else's delusional terms but for ensuring our swift victory and the complete destruction of the neo-Nazi regime," the hawkish deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council said on Telegram.

The Americans will be very very interested/afraid of the attack Ukraine just pulled off against the Russian bombers, how many American bases would be susceptible to a similar attack, and now the Ukrainians are the world's leading authority on the planning and logistics of such an attack, well they are for a few months until it's replicated, but still we can see how there are currently at least four Ukrainian companies working with the US to develop their drone tech. Drones are the future of warfare and the yanks want to get out in front and Ukraine offers them the training ground and real world feedback.

Hopefully this desire from the military to learn from Ukraine's drone success will be enough to overcome Trump's desire to swallow Putin's balls

Why is it so hard to knock down that bridge. Haven't Ukraine missiles that can reduce it to rubble
