NCT - I noticed NCT expires in a week's time, am I in trouble?

I happened to look at the windscreen yesterday, and noticed that the NCT expires in a week.

They did not send any reminder by e-mail or SMS.

Okay, it is also my responsibilty to keep on top of the renewal dates, yes.

I went online, and booked a periodic test for 25th August.

    I have two questions:

    (1) am I insured without a valid NCT?

    (2) what happens if I am stopped at a checkpoint between now and 25-August?

Might I get penalty points for not having a valid NCT cert?

Just call and ask for a cancellation or to be put on a priority list. Or check around midnight for cancellations.

I imagine your insurer could probably void your policy if they wanted and yes you could definitely get penalty points

Check online early morning / last thing at night for any cancellation appointment times opening. Available appointments will often appear for the next few days when cancellations are processed.

Only about one third of appointments are posted online, phoning NCTS might get you an arlier appointment.

If you've applied for a test and have a printed record of it, you can show that to Gardai at a checkpoint and they should accept it. The delays in getting tested are well known and a valid appointment should get you off the hook.

That worked, booked just now for 5th June.

I wish to thank you all.
