That period of play where Armagh got a big run of scores caused some damage. I think Dublin need goals since not good enough on the 2 pointers.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Wasting chances. Could have been up by 5 early on but some terrible shots. wind is all over the place

Oddly enough that Armagh scorefest reminded me of dubs 00s where we could get 8 points unanswered. But we usually bottled it and managed to somehow lose it.

First Score, 2points for O'Neil. Dublin need goals

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,481 ✭✭✭MFPM

Dublin giving them free points now. This is terrible.

So frustrating at this stage giving up those rule breach points. Every other team seem to have embraced the new rules. We have not adapted at all.

Dublin's shooting has been appalling. 12 wides..not a sniff of a goal either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,429 ✭✭✭C__MC

    Dubin seem poorly coached

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,481 ✭✭✭MFPM

They're only 5 points down but have had 17 wides, don't think today is on the coach. Dreadful shooting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,429 ✭✭✭C__MC

Skillset is poor compared to armagh. I though dublin were dreadful and armagh won in second gear.

Never really use the missed wides etc excuse, you have to have players that can score when the pressure is on.We had enough of the ball to have a chance if we had lads that could handle the pressure of having to score sadly we do not have them anymore .We will be a long way back when some of the lads quit most likely after this year .CK can only hold things together fir so long .The rules mistakes is embarrassing at this stage .

Really missed Con today - the over reliance on him showed today, but the whole forward unit were off it, Kilkenny didn't score Bugler had terrible wides, O'Dell, Basquel, Small etc are too on/off, very inconsistent. They'll make a preliminary q/f I think but after that it's hard to see them doing real damage, they could on their day take out Kerry or Donegal etc but they won't do it twice.

Yet again, complete inconsistent referring spoiling a really good game. There were some incredibly soft frees given to Armagh when we were coming back at them.

On a separate note, Cluxtons kickouts killed us for large periods of the game. I know it was a swerling wind but some of his kickouts were miles off target.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,275 ✭✭✭✭How Soon Is Now

Same old problems killing us again. Team isn't coached to play modern game. Armagh didn't really need to step out of 2nd gear game was there we never took the momentum. Wide after wide and some absolutely bullshit half arse attempts at 2 pointers.

Have to beat Derry now no slip ups and pray Con is back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,275 ✭✭✭✭How Soon Is Now

Whatever about the result **** embarrassing we were basically outnumbered by Armagh fans in Croke Park.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,500 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Yeah Armagh were 5 points up near end felt like 50. Real lesson given. But no surprise given league form etc. Still have same issues. Let’s be honest need a complete rebuild at this stage. Get young lads in who would be at least suited to the new rules.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Ah - if you are going to blame the ref for that there today - seemed to me the Dublin players dont know the rules….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,493 ✭✭✭Trampas

basquel can’t keep starting. He’s done nothing. Small at least will get a few and he can hit for two points. Costello his usual when it comes to shooting.

Less driving forward and more sideways again. Never looked like scoring a goal. Cluxton with some good saves.

Scully really day dreaming for the 3 player rule and then tries to sneak back at a 100 mph and then we get done again 2 minutes later. Very sloppy.

I think Dessie will be gone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,858 ✭✭✭Tombo2001

    On Cluxton:

The winning of the game for Armagh was in (i) Dublins absolutely brutal shooting and (ii) a ten minute period in first half where every Dublin kickout went to an Armagh player.

Could look at Cluxton for both.

A Beggan or Morgan would be moving up the pitch and taking on two-pointers. Cluxton can shoot from distance better than any Dublin forward, and yet he stayed stuck to his goalline.

And then, the fact he doesnt play all winter, when all these new players are being blooded in - that must have an effect when it comes to kickouts. (Having said that, he didnt lose on kickout in second half, may have been a wind related issue).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,485 ✭✭✭rolling boh

I don't think anyone really thought Stevo would venture up field unlike some of the other top keepers. It really looks like we have not adapted to the new rules at all ,embarrassing stuff today .

He will be if they lose to Derry- am I right in saying Armagh has won the group now? Which means they most likely play a second string team vs Armagh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,500 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Yeah Armagh can afford to throw the game v Galway. Extra rest probably strengthen AI credentials. Kerry can do the same in their group too.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,858 ✭✭✭Tombo2001

Why wouldnt he though? Its almost like getting the number 10 in rugby in position for a drop goal - surely he can manage the jog back down the pitch afterwards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,500 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Cluxton would probably need a respirator if did that. Two lads in Parnells ahead of him in the freetaking. Didn’t Cluxton take one during the league and shanked it. Obviously does not even practice them now? Weird when you think how accurate and effortless he used to kick frees. Now nothing.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,485 ✭✭✭rolling boh

He hasn't done it up to now I think so I doubt he will start now .Even in the early stage of the league when our keeper did come up nobody passed him the ball .It's not a tactic we seem to explore in any way .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,493 ✭✭✭Trampas

The rule change that the keeper counted as one of the 13 wouldn’t make sense for him to run up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,500 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

I am glad they changed that rule it looked silly Rafferty/Morgan loved it though. Cluxton is 43 not sure it would be wise. Will be bringing Keaveney/Barney/Charlie back the rate things are going!

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,842 ✭✭✭corny

The wides offer hope of a better outcome should the teams play again but i'd be confident that they'd do a job on us every time when the chips are down. You could explore it in way more depth but suffice it say they are better prepared than we are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,500 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

In my head it was very similar to the league match up in Armagh. Armagh powering through, kicking big scores. Dublin hit a lot of wides that day too, I seem to remember.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Not blaming the ref but by christ a bit of consistency would be nice.

I thought Armagh took their scores a bit easier than us. I also thought they were let away with a fair bit more when tackling our players coming out of defence than the other way round.

It was a daycent game ad if we don't hit as many silly wides we'll be there or there abouts against anyone.
