These lads are apparently proposing a commuter/tourist fast ferry around Cork Harbour.

They apparently plan to make an application this year.

Two services, an 'Express City' ferry and a 'Full Harbour' ferry.

    Proposed Stops:

Missing out on Ringaskiddy from one of the services feels like a bit of a miss. It would make a great sustainable transport link between Kent Station and the ferry port for low carbon Holidays.

Isn't Spike Island just a tourist attraction and not a commuter node?

That's why it says "Commuter & Tourist Passenger Harbour Transport".

It'll be interesting so see a proposed fare cost. I like the idea, they just need people to use it.

But if they want commuters to actually use it then they need a service that doesn't have unnecessary stops. And a stop at a tourist attraction is definitely unnecessary for commuters.

They are proposing both an "express" and a "full harbour" service.

And if you look at the map, both stop at Spike Island.

Exactly, replace Spike Island and Paddys Point with Ringaskiddy on the express route.

I’m going to have to disagree here, at least with regards to Paddy’s Point. That gives easy access for NMCI and Haulbowline, which should generate quite a bit of traffic. By comparison, I can’t even see where there would be space for a ferry pier in Ringaskiddy, given that there’s plenty of ship traffic there.

Agree with regards to Spike Island though, that makes no sense on the express route.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

With Trump re-opening Alcatraz, I think the Irish government might have plans of their own too :)

The train runs every half hour from Cobh regardless of fog and wind servicing roughly the same points as shown on that map, so the north side of the Lee is already covered.

I could see a Cobh-Ringaskiddy-Passage to the City loop possibly working as a regular service as the existing cross river always seems jammed for the rush hours.

I'll leave it to those in the know re-paddys point. Maybe a coastal path from there to the ferry terminal for onward travel would preclude the Ringaskiddy stop, but in that case Ringaskiddy could be dropped entirely? Not really a 'tourist' spot other than for international ferries

Hell, if that ferry service actually becomes operational, I’d nearly move there voluntarily 🤪

It should definitely be dropped in my eyes. Looking at the Port of Cork Masterplan, it looks like they’re planning to turn everything East of NMCI into quays and dockside infrastructure by 2050 at the latest. Given that the port is already working on an expansion of both the container terminal and the deep water berth that were both planned for 2030, I’d expect the whole thing move faster, rather than slower.

There’s another issue. The entire Ringaskiddy port area is a security area. Having commuters and tourists trudge through there to get to a commuter ferry would be at best an inconvenience, and more likely a severe impediment to operations, not to mention most likely a violation of ISPS regulations.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

    I was unaware of that.

Many double tracks were reduced to single track in order to reuse the material. Hard times.
