Why is it a joke to not show a dead rubber ?

The GAA have to sell their TV rights and they basically only have RTE to sell to so damaging the price of those rights by under mining RTE with your streaming service for a nothing match isn't good business.

Not showing Limerick v Clare is a mistake. It’s a huge fixture with massive local interest, regardless of the competition’s context. Fans want to watch these games, and they deserve access. Saying it’s a “dead rubber” or that streaming it undermines TV rights doesn’t hold up, if anything, showing more games builds interest in the sport. The GAA should be focused on growing the game and connecting with fans, not limiting access to games people care about.

They are right not to show it. Dead games don't sell advertising.. advertising pays for coverage not some social idea that a match that means nothing has 'local interest' on a national station. If people want to see there will be loads of tickets.

Nobody "deserves access" to this game any more than any other.

Of all the games that haven't been shown on TV this weekend this game has the weakest argument for showing it.

Yes, it’s a “dead rubber” in terms of the championship, but Limerick v Clare is a fixture fans care about, and there’s value in keeping that engagement, even beyond pure advertising revenue. Tickets might be available, but not everyone can make it in person, and if the GAA wants to build loyalty, it can’t just prioritise short-term ad sales over long-term fan connection. It’s a balancing act and I think missing the chance to showcase a big rivalry is a mistake. Don't tell me more would buy the Offaly V Antrim match over this game today

Wonder how many who bought tickets will stay at home with nothing to play for and watch the games on TV?

Might struggle to get 30 thousand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,758 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Cork and Waterford have something to play for. We don't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,639 ✭✭✭High bike

Might indeed struggle to get 30 k but there's other counties that would get half that attendance fo a do or die contest not to talk about a dead rubber

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,035 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

If those fans are going to drift away because a single match isn't on telly then they were never candidates of "long term fan connection" anyway. Today won't move the needle in either direction.

It always annoys me the way GAA fans talk like the game is constantly on the brink of collapse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Vinnie222

Ah, here we go , the classic "If they don’t watch this one game, they were never real fans anyway!" logic. Sure, let’s tell every Limerick and Clare fan that if they’re disappointed about not seeing this game, they’re just fair-weather supporters. That’ll really build the long-term connection we’re all talking about, won’t it? And yeah, GAA fans get passionate because they actually care, sorry if that’s annoying, but maybe we’d be better off if we all just sat quietly in the corner and let the suits decide what games matter. After all, it’s not like the GAA has ever struggled with engagement or drifted into complacency before, right?

I actually said the exact opposite.

I said if missing this one game is what turns them off the sport they were never candidates for growing or maintaining the fan base.

If you want to make an argument that we need to "tell the suits" then I agree some games not on telly should have been. Like the Joe McDonagh should have been. But there are 5 games on today and "the suits" picked the correct 3.

Is it just me or are Clare the most theatrical team of all times?? And you can start with ODonnell and the corner back. Won't miss that sh*t for the rest of the year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,284 ✭✭✭Figerty

No. I was there today. O'Donnell was fouled probably 5 times on the ball. He has mastered the art of dealing with a back hanging onto him by pushing back and then pulling in the back on him. A corner back hanging on O'Donnell gets caught in a double movement, he moves the body in, and then away, he pushes back with the free arm and draws the back into the foul.

Kelly was nearly clothes lined in the second half.

I think it wss Taylor that was tackled after the ball today resulting in another close free for Rogers.

Hegarty goes in high with the arm regularly and it's going to cost him eventually. Limerick used to complain about KK flick backs,. Limerick have a different type way of dealing with forwards coming through. Every team has it's way.

Ye will beat Cork 10 points and deserve the Championship. Can only see KK putting up a real challenge to LK in the AL Final.

What makes you think Kilkenny will beat Cork or Limerick in a semi final? I don't think they have been tested yet - would they deal comfortably with Clare and Waterford who didn't make it out of Munster? I think Kilkenny have been declining since 2022 AI Final. They caught Clare in 2 semis when Clare were hung over from losing Munster Finals. In fairness to Lohan they dusted themselves down very well last year.

O Donnell manufactures fouls. Carries the hurley like an axe, puts his arms up in the air and barges. Refs fall for it every time. Overcarries consistently too but refs never call it.

I heard the Munster final is on a Saturday evening.

Not a surprising outcome yesterday given the circumstances and the number of changes made.

Some of the players that haven't played much looked a bit rusty and didn't have their usual level of impact.

Clare took their goal chances. The two in the second half were very similar.....Limerick backs drawn way on on the left wing contesting balls and space left in behind which was exploited very well by Taylor.

Limerick left a couple of goals behind them. O"Brien elected not to shoot when in a great position and Aidan O Connor dropped a pass after a great run by Byrnes.

Did well to close the gap down in the later stages and kept it fairly respectable. The third Clare goal killed a potential comeback.

In terms of positives, Flanagan did well, did a lot of hard running and looked sharper than recently. Hegarty and Byrnes good overall. Hegarty probably our best player on the day.

It was only a cameo appearance from Adam English but his touches and use of the ball were top class when he came on. He's gone from not being a starter last year to being one of the best players in the country on current form.

Seamus Flanagan looks in really good form and was the biggest positive from yesterday - wouldn't be surprised if he started over SOB the next day. Person who might be disappointed the most is SOB as he never really got into it and when he had the chance to put his mark on the game in the first half he made that crazy pass when bearing down on goal. For a big unit they don't seem to play much ball into him quickly to take on his man. I thought the wind in the 2nd half was crying out for a few long balls in to see what he could do. Aside from SF, the other positive was no injuries - a few looked dodgy at the time, esp Peter Casey but thankfully all ok.

I'd be fairly sure that JK will start the same team that started against Cork in the Munster Final. Seamus did well in the first half but SOB will start I would think. Overall while disappointed with the result there was nothing to be gained by going all out yesterday. The likes of Peter Casey, Flanagan, DOD, CON, DHannon all got valuable game time and if called upon in Munster Final will be sharper for it.

None of the players that didn't start against Cork done enough to displace anyone.

We were kept in the game by the first 15 players yesterday.

when are tickets online for season ticket holders ? It was hard enough get tickets for group game , going to be even worse for Munster final . When you think 82k attended all ireland semi final between limerick & cork last June , 43k will be nowhere near demand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭King Power Fox

Should move Munster Final to Croke Park, precedent has been set with previous provincial finals from Ulster there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,035 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Nah. I'd rather it stays in Limerick even though it means I am not getting a ticket.

These big nights out in Limerick (or wherever you are from) are some of the best days you will ever have as a fan.

I agree with breezy it has to be the gaelic grounds for me too. Unreal occasion when it's a full house

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 669 ✭✭✭Pablo Escobar

As a Cork fan, I totally agree. I’ve seen this type of talk around and it needs to be shut down. Munster Finals stay in Munster. Also, it’s not as if 40k+ is small. These are significantly sized grounds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 111 ✭✭biglad40isback

Nah it would have to go to congress and both counties would have agree. Imagine the red herring of a Clare Waterford mf in croke park

I noticed the bottom of the terraces were sparce at the last Cork v Limerick match even though it was a sellout, pity they can't bring the gaelic grounds back to the original 49500 capacity when built. I feel sorry for the people paying 50 euros for the Macky stand which has to be one of the worst stands in the country!

The 2008 Munster final i think was the closest to that number
