Why is it a joke to not show a dead rubber ?

The GAA have to sell their TV rights and they basically only have RTE to sell to so damaging the price of those rights by under mining RTE with your streaming service for a nothing match isn't good business.

Not showing Limerick v Clare is a mistake. It’s a huge fixture with massive local interest, regardless of the competition’s context. Fans want to watch these games, and they deserve access. Saying it’s a “dead rubber” or that streaming it undermines TV rights doesn’t hold up, if anything, showing more games builds interest in the sport. The GAA should be focused on growing the game and connecting with fans, not limiting access to games people care about.

They are right not to show it. Dead games don't sell advertising.. advertising pays for coverage not some social idea that a match that means nothing has 'local interest' on a national station. If people want to see there will be loads of tickets.

Nobody "deserves access" to this game any more than any other.

Of all the games that haven't been shown on TV this weekend this game has the weakest argument for showing it.

Yes, it’s a “dead rubber” in terms of the championship, but Limerick v Clare is a fixture fans care about, and there’s value in keeping that engagement, even beyond pure advertising revenue. Tickets might be available, but not everyone can make it in person, and if the GAA wants to build loyalty, it can’t just prioritise short-term ad sales over long-term fan connection. It’s a balancing act and I think missing the chance to showcase a big rivalry is a mistake. Don't tell me more would buy the Offaly V Antrim match over this game today

Wonder how many who bought tickets will stay at home with nothing to play for and watch the games on TV?

Might struggle to get 30 thousand.

Cork and Waterford have something to play for. We don't.

Might indeed struggle to get 30 k but there's other counties that would get half that attendance fo a do or die contest not to talk about a dead rubber

If those fans are going to drift away because a single match isn't on telly then they were never candidates of "long term fan connection" anyway. Today won't move the needle in either direction.

It always annoys me the way GAA fans talk like the game is constantly on the brink of collapse.

Ah, here we go , the classic "If they don’t watch this one game, they were never real fans anyway!" logic. Sure, let’s tell every Limerick and Clare fan that if they’re disappointed about not seeing this game, they’re just fair-weather supporters. That’ll really build the long-term connection we’re all talking about, won’t it? And yeah, GAA fans get passionate because they actually care, sorry if that’s annoying, but maybe we’d be better off if we all just sat quietly in the corner and let the suits decide what games matter. After all, it’s not like the GAA has ever struggled with engagement or drifted into complacency before, right?

I actually said the exact opposite.

I said if missing this one game is what turns them off the sport they were never candidates for growing or maintaining the fan base.

If you want to make an argument that we need to "tell the suits" then I agree some games not on telly should have been. Like the Joe McDonagh should have been. But there are 5 games on today and "the suits" picked the correct 3.
