    Former Post Office sold.

So instead of redeveloping this commercial property into a much needed retail unit. They are now going to turn it into flats. No doubt attracting yobs or IPAs hanging out at the front of the building.

“Contracts have been agreed with a Kilkenny based company. The new owners intends a very substantial investment to repurpose the building into private rental accommodation.

“This will be a welcome addition to the housing stock particularly for those struggling to find starter accommodation in the Thurles area.”

where will all those people park . there is no rear access . surely you could put a nice few apartments in there. that is a lot of people

I dont know why you’ve narrowed it down to ipas or yobs. Town is full of students for one thing….

Exact same thing that is happening in Stradavoher Court, formely known as Student Village will happen in Liberty Square and Friar Street.

I have a niece living very near that estate. It was hell with the junkies, but when the Roma moved in around 2 years ago, they absolutely destroyed the place. Feuding going on between the foreigners at the front, and the Nova social housing tenants at the rear. Its the exact same thing that's happening in Roscrea, Portlaoise and Limerick.

Madame Maura shop, the former game shop (cant remember its name, but was run by Mrs. Shingloffs) old bookmakers on Croke Street. Dr. Molonys old practice etc.

These units are being used to house IPAs. Rather than attracting businesses or services to open in the town. Seems every other town can attract new businesses except Thurles. Embarrassing on its main street there's two charity shops.

Traffic is able to flow and I think the only complaints were from the few residents on the street. The only concern I would have had was the speed of traffic when people are queueing with/ waiting to collect kids at the dance studio but they are moving premises so it's no longer an issue.

I’m old enough to remember Mrs Keelan and her beautiful daughters running it. I wonder whatever became of them?

So Kickham Street is taking months to be redone and Jim Ryan posted on FB that Slievenamon Road is going to be started tonight and finished on Wednesday night. I guarantee it'll be a crap job and will be in tatters very quickly.

I work in Slievenamon Road and the place is in bits. The pavement is spattered with tarmac everywhere. You could not push a buggy or a bike without getting the wheels covered in melting tar. It’s disgraceful

Any locals thoughts on 4ace cpurse closing?

The resurfacing of the road is a very good job but you're right, there's so much debris along the sides of the road which is surprising. They should have had the sweeper truck give it a once-over.

There was actually quite a valid reason - it's a hard track and they were required to install a sprinkler system, the cost of which would have been prohibitive for them. Someone else may take it over but that has yet to be seen/confirmed.

I'd say your lad Magnier from Coolmore stud will have to step in for there to be any hope of saving it.

I remember during the Covid ITV racing entered into a contract with the Molonys to hold a couple of races. I remember the anger and threats from people OUTSIDE of Thurles calling the jockeys granny killers, ITV wasnt welcome in Thurles etc. There's always a massive resentment to everything that happens in town.

Nothing is ever saved in Thurles by the government . They'll subsidise anything in Cashel, Nenagh, but in Thurles, Clonmel, Tipperary Town and Roscrea. You could be in flames on the ground and they wouldn't even piss on you to put it out.

"Tipperary GAA Board might be interested in the property in Thurles if it is put on the market as the Board is seeking a site for a Centre of Excellence that could accommodate 5 pitches and infrastructure such as a gym, treatment rooms, office space and a restaurant"

A facility like this would be great addition to the area, but not the racecourse. Racing had existed for a lot longer than the GAA and nobody wants the racecourse to be closed. Perhaps this COE should be located in Bouladuff (Ragg). And the reason I suggest this village is that we lack any industrial, commercial and residentially zoned land around the town.

I couldnt agree anymore with this statement

Why has a sprinkler system become necessary now after all this time ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 176 ✭✭Tipp1991

Thurles lost 3 or 4 fixtures last Winter/Spring because the ground was too hard and required watering.

HRI have published new requirements for all racecourses that must be in place for 2026 I believe.

HRI are grant funding works to a max of 60% of the cost.

would the likes of coolmore be allowed to buy it and run it as a racetrack. would it be a conflict of interest or would that not matter

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 176 ✭✭Tipp1991

There would be nothing stopping them doing it but I couldn't see it happen personally.

They have the money to build their own and they never have. Tipperary Racecourse is undergoing redevelopment including the installation of an all weather track. I'm sure Coolmore are contributing to that in some way as it would be a lot more beneficial to them.

Thurles would be more known for National Hunt racing. Coolmore have National Hunt stallions but they stand at stud in County Cork.

reports of some kind of chemical reaction that injured some kids.. its all a bit hush hush as far as i can see. no real reporting of what actually happened

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,501 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Did the skate park ever reopen, that was closed because some kid had a reaction to something, found the whole thing a little odd.

Does anyone know of a good guttering installer near Thurles?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭the_pen_turner

smaller jobs i do myself but anything bigger its usually cheaper to let michael ormond do it . he pumps the cavities and does the pvc soffit and fascia aswell as the seamless so it works out well on jobs.

whats going into the liberty rooms old place.

is the italian place where the tara was open yet. is it a cafe style or a full resturant

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,006 ✭✭✭Grab All Association

Shops, boutiques, well paying jobs created in Cashel, Nenagh and other places in recent weeks

Thurles is converting everything into either accommodation for bogus asylum seekers or vape shops.
