Sorry if asked before but what are peoples thoughts on gas weed burner to kill off weeds for around the house.

There are plenty of mixed opinions online, but targeting the root of the weed with the blue part of the flame is apparently effective?

It is great for eliminating small newly emerged weeds but less effective on well established weeds. The heat should be enough to kill the plant so no need to be too worried about targeting the centre. But you will need to repeat when you see new growth.

I use it regularly on a gravel path and it is as effective as a weedkiller.

It's not a weedkiller in the sense that it doesn't totally kill the weed, just what's above ground. Most weeds will regrow from the roots.

Bit more faff; and more piecemeal, but a cheaper option is to pour boiling water onto the weeds every time you've some left over in the kettle.

They are good for spot burning especially in areas where you don't want to use weedkiller.

The ones that work off a calor gas cylinder are better than the disposable cylinders.

Thanks for that. Lidl were selling their version with the disposable cylinders but now it looks like that won’t be strong enough

I bought the Lidl one last year. The flame is not intense enough. Weeds kept coming back, fairly quickly IIRC.

I ended up giving it away.

Waste of money in my opinion.

again, weeds will come back with a gas burner; you need to use them regularly, and starve the roots over time.

in my experience, a handheld burner might take a little longer but it'll still kill the part of the weed that's above ground.
