Cherbourg to Dublin Ferry Wed 28 May Helps!!

Hi, really hoping someone can help me with this. I booked a ferry to Ireland but misunderstood the dog policy for foot passengers. Long story short, the only way I'll get in the ferry is with a dog cage, but my dog's cage is impossible to carry with him in it as he's a collie size plus bringing his cage on public transport to Cherbourg, no way.

Is anybody driving the ferry to Ireland on the 28th that is kind enough to let him hop in the back for boarding on and off? Its just for getting in and out, on board he goes to the kennel they have. (He and I have ticket)

I'm royally screwed cause I finished my job contract in France and agreed to leave my apartment, so need to get me and him on that ferry

Its a ridiculous policy, but I do know someone who was able to walk-on and they turned a blind eye. But that was a Bilbao sailing.

A trucker will almost certainly let you jump in with them

I understand your problem, and it seems very unfair that a foot passenger cannot take a dog on the ferry. The foldable cage may work.

I am surprised you are still set on the ferry when you have known since at least Jan that its not straightforward/easy as a foot passenger with a pet.

Actually, that would be perfect! I was looking into dog bags , but didnt think of folding bags with wheels

But would arrive too late through amazon, maybe I can source one local

Well long story short, I got caught up negotiating for 1-2 months if I could use a dog backpack given his size, and when I finally got the go ahead last Friday, of courseee, no feckin' seller on the second hand sites responded to me trying to purchase their 20kg+ bags. I looked at amazon then when I gave up on them responding but none will arrive on time.

So yea, now I'm back to square one and stressing out. Those folding dog cages with wheels look good but never crossed my mind and wont arrive on time.

Maybe they'll be sound and help me carry him in his dog cage, but their policy does say the owner has to be able to carry it

I took my smal dog over on the stena ferry to Cherbourg or was it Le Havre? Anyway, they let us walk on . Having looked at the site, I see it’s Irish ferries that have that policy. Here’s hoping they’re more understanding on the day, because it smacks of “if you’re too poor to drive over, then you gotta go through these hoops to bring your beloved with you. “

Yea I looked Stena line now, christ on a stick only saw now how you can walk them on and have them in a cabin with you. I would of booked them months ago if I'd known but the first page where you select passenger details dont mention dogs, so I just assumed they didnt take them :L Didnt see on the cabin page.

Oh well, I've resorted to installing rollers on my dog's massive cage, hopefully that fits Irish Ferries policy

And yes, you're right about the driving thing. People have the right to not like dogs, but the fact that these people go out of their way to ban dogs or put restrictions on them, joke :L Makes everything painful for dog owners, especially in regards to transport
