I see Kneecap have announced numerous new concerts and festivals they will be playing at over the next few months

One thing trying to get a band cancelled is guaranteed to do, is make that band more popular

They are also on some RTE show this week I'd imagine we will get the fake outrage on why RTE showed it once it airs

Kneecap made the call for their following to murder local MPs when at a concert in England. There are no Tory MPs in N. I.

Kneecap have been dropped from a concert in UK recently and would be dropped from more except for contracts etc. As they now are a bit like Gary Glitter it will be interesting to see what happens. Most people do not want to be associated with people dressing like dissidents who urge their followers to murder the same targets as dissidents might, given the chance.

Mod: Can people drop the Gary Glitter comparison please. It's a ridiculous and offensive comparison just to score a few points on an internet forum. I deleted a number of posts previously and posted a mod warning about this already. Thanks.

They have already announced a few new UK concerts, 2 days in Plymouth in July for example which sold out in hours

Venues are there to make money, and money will always come before anything

Nope. You stated that Kneecap failed to take responsibility for some action against MPs. There's been none involving them.

Hamas are a proscribed terrorist organisation in the UK, the place where Kneecap expressed support for them.

Gaza isn't a country, and therefore can't have an elected government.

Mod: And once again posters are using this to discuss the Israel/Palestine conflict instead of the appropriate thread. Closing this one as there's no point in duplication.

Just seeing this on Sky News.

The Brits have charged Liam O Hanna with terror offences.

A thing is what it does.

No matter what one thinks of current events in the world their actions have been pretty stupid just on a pure career basis alone, never mind anything else.

Personally, I wouldn't have much time for the likes of Kneecap or that Tadhg Hickey guy; seems like infantile politics for a new generation of musicians/ comedy acts, is it a trend?

So, Kneecap, were flying the flag of Hezbollah, and so this happened.

Breaking UK police charge Kneecap's 'Mo Chara' with terrorism offence

This will play out as a PR disaster for the right wing heads in the UK. They are the ones who have been complaining that Britain is a police state under Starmer and there is 'no freedom of speech'.

It won't, it will play out as a PR disaster for Kneecap.

Should have kept his support for terrorists groups to himself.

There are limits to free speech in all societies.

nice to see actions have consequences though once in a while at least

This is not good for Kneecap.

Michael Martin has said that Hezbollah were responsible for the murder of Irish soldier Private Sean Rooney.

I'm no fan of their music but I appreciate their promotion of my language.

As for terrorist's personally I think they're just cosplaying terrorists. Disgraceful waving a Hezbollah or HAMAS flag though it has to be said.

How many people in the UK have been jailed for waving a flag in public……has there even been one such case? You're speaking as if charging a flag waver with 'terrorist' offences is the most normal and natural thing in the world. Hezbollah has ministerial posts in the Lebanese government, it doesn't just have a military / terrorist wing - probably similar to where Sinn Fein were in the 1990s.

I enjoyed the film and their promotion of the Irish language, not sure about their politics on the whole but have huge admiration for their bravery to challenge the behavior of the IDF on such a big stage in the US.

The pressure is on the CPS to make this stick, they need a solid conviction. Anything less leaves them open to allegations of political persecution. As performing artists, with on stage alter egos, I'm not sure the charges will stick.

blindboy's podcast from last week on the topic is worth listening to - he mentions that kneecap on several occasions have cited the rubberbandits as a key influence, and talks about them (the rubberbandits) performing their song 'up the RA' as a performance rather than as a measured piece of political discourse.

interesting to note that despite having performed that lots of times in the UK, blindboy was never charged with terrorism offences.

one thing he mentioned which i hadn't considered was that kneecap, growing up in west belfast, were constantly exposed to symbols and expressions of sectarianism and politics - and a lot of that (wall murals, etc.) are now actually protected. so they would have a different relationship with that form of expression to the rest of us.

They are starting to get more likeable as they warm to the challenge of the environment and respect Goggins. I was out in -28c with wind chill before at 3000m and its extreme. Blood just stops flowing to feet, hand, nose etc.

whats the potential sentence if he’s convicted ?

id think you’ll see them suddenly try and skulk away from their imparted views claiming it’s performance art

"He was charged with displaying a flag at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, north London, on 21 November, "in such a way or in such circumstances as to arouse reasonable suspicion that he is a supporter of a proscribed organisation"

is there not video and photos of him waving a Hezbollah flag and shouting to the crowd UP hamas up hezbollah ?

There is no way the crown makes this charge stick - it will be massive for Kneecaps profile though, and a real blunder for the CPS.

Its the Streisand effect in action. The more they try to go after kneecap for their message, the more people actually hear that message in the first place
