Does anyone even deny that Gript have an agenda.

Their is a gap in the market for reporting on items the msm won't go near.

The likes of immigration is a huge topic and they will report on a topic that people want to review and discuss.

The left don't like them because they report on uncomfortable truths they like to wish away with insults.

A lot of what Gript do terrifies the left because it exposes their arguments.

So instead of countering Gript which should be easy they call them Grift and claim they would never read them, but at the same time refuse to read them because of how they report news.

" Corporate overlords at Gript " very interesting claim .

Immigration numbers have greatly increased since 2019 when the average was 3-4 thousand each year . 18561 in 2024

The degree of imbalance in that section of the paper is illustrative of the clear editorial position of the paper in their aspiration as an ersatz Guardian - this bleeds into their news section with their decision in certain stories to omit relevant details (like their omission of the violent criminal past of Bahaalddin Alshwawrah prior to his arrival in Ireland) that are inconvenient to their narrative

If that’s the case, please supply evidence. I don’t believe it to be true.

The editorial bias in most newspapers, if not all, is to towards publishing stories that sell. They are commercial ventures after all.

Extremist regimes on left and right always attack the free press. They do their best to discredit them in order to control them. Look at what’s happening in Hungary.

People have been brainwashed online to think RTÉ , the Irish Times etc., are little more than propaganda. This is very worrying.

I think it's more likely that most people just feel like RTÉ and the others just do a good enough job and the whole obsession with immigration thing is the preserve of a tiny minority. Happy to be swayed by evidence though.

“The left” again. We don’t have a big meeting where we all agree you know.

But anyway, I personally dislike Gript because it’s unashamedly biased. It’s run by someone who’s anti choice and would have us all living in the 1950s.

I also worry that it echoes Russian talking points. But there’s no proof it’s funded by the Russians.

It’s completely unsustainable but there’s no point in complaining. The numbers of incoming AS might reduce from 18k pa to 15k pa but we still can’t accommodate these numbers.
Jim O Callaghan might go on about the 128 deported to Georgia but it’s a drop in the ocean compared to the numbers refused asylum and are still here.

Come to Ireland and claim asylum and you’ll be accommodated. Wait 2 years for a decision and if you get turned down you can appeal for another year and then go the judicial appeal route funded by an NGO. Let’s accept it nothing is going to change.

I literally gave you an example from yesterday’s news

Yes everyone that disagrees with you is brainwashed and an extremist. How worrying. Even more condescending than usual today.

You are awfully fond of asking for evidence then when you are given it...radio silence.

Is 22% considering immigration to be one of the main issues facing Ireland a 'tiny minority'? In 2021 you could say that alright when it was 2%. (Figures in the link go to October 2024 not April 2024 as shown in the thumbnail)

Do you not find it even a bit strange that RTE et al have not tried to delve deeper into where the obscene amounts of money being spent on the 'immigration thing' are going or who is profiting most?

Is it not in the public interest? After all, we are talking about billions of euros here. Are they protecting corporate interests perhaps?

Great to see, but still more to be done and even more to be done in terms of processing applications - over 30,000 being accommodated at the moment, the majority of whom will be refused and yet we have to spend over a billion quid for the year putting them up

In fairness, if you need to twist what I said like this then there's not much point. I'm only responding to point that out. Any time I ask for evidence, I get either a link dump or nothing.

It is unfortunate that policymakers and a certain section of the public are so reluctant to accept the obvious.

Heard one of them that Lee Anderson, Reform UK on yesterday about DLA being replaced and that people on long-term disability should be put back to work ..and his constituency has the highest number of people on disability payments !

Never mentioned that some may actually need that payment ;)

Just leave them talk and they'll talk themselves out of being electable by the time the next election comes around .

it’s almost like the climate change debate now.

It’s as obvious that the scale of immigration has been too much for the country, but some people still won’t accept its reality. They even argue that the housing crisis isn’t linked to immigration, that the State should have houses waiting in case people want to come to Ireland.

These people are about as convincing as the climate change deniers.

Same with Brexit. Those most dependent on the EU voted for it thinking that only other people would experience consequences. Now they're voting Reform UK.

It's not. Climate change is objectively provable fact. Gript being the only content provider in the country covering things RTÉ covers up is a pathetic excuse for a conspiracy theory.

You posted one story. That doesn’t prove your point of editorial bias.

I never said everyone who disagrees with me is brainwashed and extremist. You’re being a tad sensitive there.

Notice how it's been been rebranded from global warming to climate change. The climate on this planet has been changing long before Humans even existed.

Here's the rise for the last 8000 years. It's only Risen 0.2M in the last 125 years.

Taken from Wikipedia who are using reliable sources.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Past_sea_level

Anyone struggling to understand this graph it's 1 to 9 thousand year's ago as seen on the X Axis. Very basic concept a primary school student should understand.

You're all free to feel we'll be under water but don't stress yourself out because it ain't gonna happen. Not for a few thousand years and by then it was going to happen anyway.

There's a sharp rise in the number of Muslims in Ireland through immigration since 1990. At this rate we can expect a sizable portion of Irish society to be followers of Islam in just a couple of decades.

France is further down the islamification path and there's been a chilling report issued by president Macron's security cabinet.

A treat to national cohesion is not to be taken lightly. Will Ireland ultimately suffer the same fate?

Yes but humans are driving climate change now. Dumping images does not change this.

And I only had to back a single day for an example

Here’s another off the top of my head from a couple of months ago so

    https://www.irishtimes.com/crime-law/courts/2025/02/18/man-remanded-in-custody-charged-in-connection-with-fatal-stabbing-of-quham-babatunde-in-dublin/

Asylum seeker is involved in a fracas and fatally stabbed, big news story. Irish times releases numerous articles pertaining to the story and yet in all of those articles failed to mention he was facing rape charges and had been deported from Italy before trying his hand here.

Wonder why IT deigned to leave that rather substantial piece of information about him out, despite all of their coverage?

Dumping images? Strange terminology. The bottom line is the climate emergency is greatly exaggerated. The sea level isn't going to rise by a crazy amount over the next 1000 years not that'll matter to us.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,913 CMod ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

It isn't. I've no idea where you got that picture from and I don't care. I'll take the science over whatever it is you're peddling, thanks.

You're welcome to Google sea level rises yourself. I got it from the front page of Google and it's based off science. Are you that indoctrinated that you can't look at the facts and judge for yourself. Climate alarmism is off the charts and has been since I was in primary school. They had us thinking we'd be underwater by 2050 😂

I've no interest in researching your drivel for you. The fact that you openly admit to just grabbing it from Google and dumping it here proves my point.

Regarding RTE and their coverage of immigration issues -

What may have happened is - as soon as they knew they were on course for a €725m bailout from the government (due to the difficulties experienced trying to pay the massive salaries, fees, pensions, exit packages etc) they rushed out and bought a pixelation machine

I'll just 'dump' a couple of images I took form my TV in Aug last year of a report of a PoC (perp of colour) being brought into court by a whitey prison guard - The new Pixelator didn't work on the guard though

    Mod note:

Can we get back on topic please? The thread is busy enough as it is, no need to add a climate change discussion on top of it.

    Thank you.
