Welcome to what we've had in Dublin all month! Looking at stats for the airport it's only been above 20C for 7 hours all year so far and that was in April.

It's been a glorious spell so not complaining at all, but echoing what others are saying I'm looking forward to the wind shift just to get rid of that endless cold easterly breeze

We will notice the difference from tomorrow as we lose that direct easterly off 90km stretch of cold sea.

The rains have finally arrived here in Tralee this past hour, hopefully not heralding a big break down, just a blip, we hope, to fill the reservoirs.

We have been truly blessed here in Kerry, this past week especially.@Meteorite58's beautiful photos describe it better than any words I could find. It's been magical. Gin blue wall to wall skies and a weekend of real proper heat. Lounging at the beach and feeling as warm as you would in somewhere like Spain. Bliss.😍 I'm usually jealous of the sunny south east but sandals are on the other foot for once.🙂 Fingers crossed that it's the start of a rare classic long hot summer for the entire country.

Guys, I'm just looking at a specific area on the rainfall radar on met eireann. It shows a small intense echo shower over the louth - armagh border. I think the mountain range on this border is know as 'the ring of gullion'. I'm just wondering why this 'shower' remains stationary for well over 12hrs at this stage despite changing shape. Is it an error or topographical ?

Not a drop of rain here in weeks.

high cloud all day in cork city but dry, about 16/17 degrees so a bit of a change. Normal May type weather really now

We had about 15 mins of rain today and it was very welcome. Could do with more. First rain In 25 days.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Normal weather has resumed in Dublin, raining and chilly today.

Looks very likely a false echo I reckon . Was checking to see if there was Wind Turbines there as they can have an effect at times seemingly, Met Eireann speaks about ground clutter and false echoes below. Don't know why but those hills seem to be interfering with the radar somehow or the cloud above it showing up as rain .

I wonder if it is something to do with the topography with the two hills to the S and the gap between leading towards Slieve Gullion, it seems the returns might be coming from this corridor ??

Rain has started here in carrick breaking the dry spell , it's light but big drops

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 664 ✭✭✭Robwindstorm

Thanks Meteorite, baffling stuff. I haven't noticed it before. It can't be a rain cloud for this length of time.

Is there a storm this weekend? Strong W/SWs forecast with pleasurable refreshing rain

It's a flase echo because northern Ireland radar was down earlier on

    GFS Sunday

Reminiscent of a winters day. 7c NW. Gusts up to 115km/h for exposed northern coasts

Don't be daft itl be 11c Sunday. No matter what happens this is one of the sunniest spells of weather Sligo has ever had. Most of April bar a week and 20 days of May sunny 90percent of them time. Probably over 400hours of sun in that time. Unreal for the normally cloudy NW. 2 or 3 days left then pray for June reload.

Cracking morning in Galway. Wall to wall sunshine. The weeds are growing fast!

Athenry, Markree and Mullingar still showing 0.0mm of rain in May.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Foggy start in Kildare, visibility less than 100m at 7AM.

    Starting to lift now.

Finally getting a bit of warmth right on the east coast! 16c now in Greystones. Warmer than any day in the past week or so.

Lovely day in Dublin and as someone else mentioned a bit warmer here then the earlier days of May (even though it was wall to wall sunshine)

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 12,732 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

Lovely May morning around Tralee after a fresh start, soft humidity, warming up nicely now to 17.3C at my site, sunshine and clouds at about 2/8 .
