That's the thing, he didn't need to try and get into any specifics whatsoever. Extend some well wishes, say you're praying for his recovery, then move on to the next question.

Instead, Trump wishes him well, makes some sh*t up about him having Stage 9 cancer, then talks about how great he did at his cognitive test as if he hadn't just gotten important details wrong about Biden's cancer.

He is wholly incapable of the absolute bare minimum slice of humanity.

He didn't even answer the actual question on whether he would call his predecessor.
I'm curious to know what he meant when he said it was "very sad" - sad that Biden has cancer or sad that Biden (in Trump's view) kept it secret for so long.

It shows, yet again, that Trump cannot understand information. He got confused by 2 different numbers? And that is to be excused as just one of those things?

While this may not be the most egregious error, it points to the fact that Trump simply has no idea what he is doing or the ability to deal with anything more than the simpliest of information. It shows why he is so wrong about tariffs, why he never got close to dealing with medical insurance, why his EO's are rubbish and never lead anywhere.

He simply has not got the intellectual capacity to deal with anything complex, when complex starts at two different pieces of information.

It's an embarrassment. The man looks like a fool. Imagine standing up at the POTUS podium and making such a juvenile mistake? Luckily he isn't a doctor or anything important that he lack of intellect can actually have a negative impact on anything.

He's also been confused about how many world wars there have been.

Agree 80% with JD Vance but it's the Democratic party that needs to take a long hard look at itself as usual. I don't so much blame Biden for ambition of serving but his party knew full well he was in no condition to make a second term. That's just stating the obvious.

The first reason, certainly. Have you ever heard him quote a correct number about anything? It doesn't matter what the topic is, he says the first, most impressive, number he thinks of, and in subsequent statements says a different - usually higher - number again.

In the same way that he thinks more gold is better in any room he is in, any number will do no matter what he is quoting, the higher the better. Bigger is better. You have only to listen to his 'price of eggs' speeches - he does not have any comprehension of how percentages work, but the bigger percentage the better.

The average retail price of eggs would have to fall to about $0.35 a dozen for Trump’s claim of a “93%, 94%” price drop to be accurate…

As of April 18, the average wholesale price for graded, loose, white large shell eggs was $3.13 per dozen, according to the Department of Agriculture. That was down about 47% from the average price of about $5.87 on Jan. 17, days before Trump was sworn into office again.(FactCheck.org)

If you are fully accepting what Vance says then I take it that you believe it should equally apply to the current President who is clearly not fit for the role mentally or physically

Your thesis is that the guy who recommends injecting bleach as a cure for a viral infection, praises Nazis as "very fine people", and isn't aware that world war 2 happened is sharp as a tack.

All Vance is showing here is what an immoral corporate parasite he is. He got a corporate education and became famous by crapping on the place he grew up in.

The whole egg price thing was down to culling of flocks due to bird flu. Prices will naturally fall when stocks are restored.

Nothing to do with Trump or his band of merry highwaymen. He'll claim credit though.

I'd agree with what Vance said.

Its clear Bidens failing health was concealed by his aides and the Democrat party.

The media also played their part in trying to conceal his deterioration, anyone who questioned Bidens mental and physical acumen was accused of spreading right wing conspiracy theories.

The sad fact is he simply wasnt up to the job and there are serious question marks over just who was running the country during the latter stages of Bidens term.

Can't you just bring yourself to say the Democrats screwed up without mentioning Trump (who is evidentally healthier and more energetic than Biden ever was as President) ? 🙄

Biden could barely talk by the end.

The intention was not to discuss the price of eggs, but to demonstrate his total lack of interest in facts or accuracy.

The way he talks there could be a random submarine stray slightly into US waters and if it suited his narrative he would quote it as having launched a nuclear warhead. Or some nation could actually threaten the US with nuclear aggression and no-one would believe it because 'yes we've heard it all before'.

I was thinking maybe the role of President or leader of a country nowadays isnt as demanding as it used to be.

There are so many advisers and spin doctors. So many cogs in the wheel.

Most of the work is delegated and the departments have a fixed hierarchy in place that self drives most of the time.

Was it 7 paid advisors a feeble politician the likes of Eamonn Ryan had.

Varadkar had 6 full time advisors, this isnt including all the fully staffed state agencies and departments at his disposal.

There are alot of checks and balances, particularly in the US as it is a Federal Republic.

Trump doesnt have half as much power as people think.

This will be the last time I ask.

What was Trump elected to do?

I think both Trump and Biden were terrible candidates. Trump however is much more dangerous. He thinks that he is smart but given the nonsense that comes out of his mouth any time he speaks, he is clearly far from it.
I'd much rather a less energetic president who has the ability to think rather than one that shoots from the hip using lies as ammunition.

Shot across the bow from voters to shake up the establishment

    Own the libs

    Good Jesus 🙄

Bring jobs and wealth back to America

So, how's that going so far?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭dinorebel

To quote Meatloaf '2 out of 3 ain't bad' unfortunately he's completely f**ked up the 3rd point which is the actual important part of his job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,724 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

You've previously said he's done what he's promised. As a result of his tariffs, this actively increased the cost of living and on top of that, it's also made some US businesses untenable and it tends to be the smaller ones.

So that doesn't sound like bringing wealth back to the US…

    Meaningless sentence.

    Meaningless sentence.

Girls will have to do with just two dolls instead of thirty. Walmart should swallow the cost of his tariff plans which have caused price rises. Stock market falling due to someone who was no longer President. US Treasury yields rising.

So Bidens health isn't as big as issue as you are making out.

You have to break some eggs to make an omelette

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators Posts: 43,049 Mod ✭✭✭✭Seth Brundle

Honestly, that's a really stupid comment posted to excuse utter incompetence!

How many economic "eggs" did Biden break in his first four months of office and can their negative effect on the US economy be measured in the trillions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,542 ✭✭✭✭Peregrinus

It is possible to break eggs without making an omelette, though. Nothing Trump has done so far suggests that there will omelette any time soon; just a bunch of broken eggs, and spatters of yolk and white everywhere.

It follows the pattern. I feel like playing Victoria 3 has taught me more about trade and economics than the actual president of the USA knows or is able to learn.

If Biden had won in 2024, we'd now have Kamala Harris taking over in his stead so there'd be a sane, sensible, capable, experienced and qualified person in the role of President instead of some creature of the GOP grifterverse.

hmmm, probably as coherent as trump but has the benefit of not being an incontinent liar!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,947 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

The sensible thing would be for some-one faced with a question like that from the floor [which would not be unexpected] would be to say "I have doctor so and so here, an expert on cancer and he will reply, Dr, please…." Trump however….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,724 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

This kind of response is always a bit telling. Neither you or anarchy can actually point to successes, instead it's just vague statements that don't say a whole lot. Trust in the US down globally and the cost of living going up in the US as a result of policies Trump pulled out of his arse

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,947 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

A problem with that analogy is that Trump has managed to **** around with not just the US national economy, but with the economies of most of the developed and developing world, with his tariffs plan unless one proposes that the tariffs plan was not Trumps but that of one or more of his advisers.

Blame them and one would have to accept their control of him was lax to the extent he still managed to cause, and is still liable to commit more if one believes what he said about them returning against 19 other countries if they do not agree to a deal on his terms within the next months.

"Mr President, who is in control of your cabinet and the White House?"
