Pricey enough rates, are you on 24hr or D/N? There's definitely better offers out there.

Not ad nauseam and as if the tickets were more important than an energy rates offered.

Hi there! Just wondering if you got them to work after?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 776 ✭✭✭Moving2017

has anyone switched to yuno recently? Switcher and bonkers are saying €310 welcome for elec only. But their own website says it’s €200.

Do switcher/bonkers often have different deals available?

Think you mean Yuno- seems to €320 for dual fuel,€200 for single?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 776 ✭✭✭Moving2017

Thanks! Bonkers and Switcher seems to be suggesting it’s €310 for elec only, so I was curious if it’s an issue on their side or a genuine deal that’s different from going direct.

Anyone switching to Yuno should hopefully be aware of their model of 'predictive' advance payments where you can potentially pay €100s in advance of any actual usage.

Possibly OK if you have the money to 'loan' them but can be a major issue if you don't.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Don't they stick you with a smart meter as well - whether you want one or not?

Flogas offering 30% discount with 200 cashback. Rates are decent and year one is cheaper than BWG offer albeit BWG offer is fixed.

Flogas €140 credit for electricity alone- unit rates high enough though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 776 ✭✭✭Moving2017

They request one for you if you don’t have one.

If you don’t have one they ask you to send monthly meter readings. Which ive been doing with BGE anyway.

Bonkers! but emerald must be something since Ray popped it.

I'm with Flogas for electricity already. My contract with BG is up end of this week. I wonder could I avail of this offer if switching my gas too or would I have to take the Gas only offer which is a higher unit rate and lower cashback.

Hi everyone, just looking for some guidance here because I feel like all these plans are designed to confuse the life out of me. I have a smart meter, my wife and I both work from home so our electricity usage is much higher during the day (approx. 75% annual average), although with the current night meter I try to use things like the dishwasher and washing machine at night. We have no electric car or anything like that to consider.

Looking at the plans available I think it might be best to just go on a flat 24-hour rate and for that Energia appears to be the cheapest both in terms of unit rate and standing charge. Is there anything other than that to be on the lookout for? I've not had a smart plan before so just wary of any hidden gotchas that I could end up with. Switcher and Bonkers are telling me the Smart Data with 33% discount is cheapest but I think for my specific needs that's not the case.

Do you have an activated smart meter? What code is on your bill? Mine is an unactivated smart meter = MCC01

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,195 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Mine is an unactivated day/night meter MCC02 is on the bill but I have a smart meter installed. Thing is I'm overpaying significantly both on the standing charge and unit rate for my night meter and don't get the benefit of the cheaper rates. We inherited the night meter when we bought the house because there was storage heating here initially, but we replaced that with oil heating so no need for the night rate anymore. I checked the standard tariffs online and the Smart deals look to be better overall.

And on the details you got from Switcher/Bonkers, you've put your own usage and not going by the EAB? If they do look better go for it. The only "gotcha" you would have is once activated, you are on the Smart plans forever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,195 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Yes I put in my own usage based on the last 12 months of bills which is a bit higher than the national average and still it recommends the Energia Smart Tariff with 33% discount but that's making assumptions in the calculation of my day vs peak usage. The best value non-smart plan is the Airtricity Home Electric plan with 35% discount, but that keeps me stuck on the day/night meter with the higher standing charge. Is there a reason why someone would want to stick to the non-smart tariffs?

I'm going through the same exercise at the moment. Currently on a non-activated smart meter d/N plan with energia but want to change to a 24 hour plan. My research to date has identified the FloGas "24 Hour Smart Electricity 30% Discount" plan with €140 cashback as the best option for me. I'm a rural user. I have used my usage data file from ESB Networks & bonkers.ie in my research. I also used the data file with energypal.ie but the above FloGas plan doesn't seem to be there.

I only noticed (stupid me) that my smart meter shows Day, Peak and Night KWH usage by pressing the button. Very handy to immediately know your night usage and whether a triple rate makes sense. (excl I know, using the data file which will provide a lot more info).

Question - as I have a relation who hasn't activated their smart meter - does the smart meter show you day/peak/night ANYWAY, even if you're on a 24 hour plan i.e. just for info, or do you have to be on a day/peak/night plan for it to show?

I am 99% sure that it does. (unless its a Day Night Smart meter, One with the yellow green button, It just shows Day Night)

Yes it does. Creating an account on the esbn site will show you the readings in a tabular form, easier than pressing the button.

Why the FloGas 24 plan instead of the Electric Ireland Home Electric + SST Saver 30%.

It's only marginally more expensive daytime than FloGas but half the price at night.

    Day: 08.00 - 23.00 25.92c per kWh

    Night: 23.00 - 08.00 13.62c per kWh

    Peak: 17.00 - 19.00 27.65c per kWh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,783 ✭✭✭Gooser14

    Yes it does.

Edit. If it is an RM108 day/night meter it shows day, night & combined total on the meter. However, the data file generated on ESB Networks gives day/night/peak figures.

And at the risk of stating the obvious, be assured that accessing the data on your ESB account DOES NOT activate time of use/smart-metering. This can only occur when your retail supplier does so (which should only occur) with your consent.
