Advertising campaigns for votes should be banned IMO.

I got an add at YouTube yesterday.

I reckon it's going to be similar to last year, big push on the audience/televote.

2025 gigs: Selofan, Alison Moyet, Wardruna, Gavin Friday, Orla Gartland, The Courettes, Nine Inch Nails, Rhiannon Giddens, New Purple Celebration, Nova Twins

I didn’t bother watching on Tuesday but will be watching tonight and I’ve been watching back the videos of the Irish entry and it’s very catchy.

From the last two pages it seems the performance at the rehearsal by Emmy is a bit underwhelming. Is that a fair assessment?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,702 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Maybe it is more important for Emmy to focus on vocals and the screen staging for TV audience?

Yes, the song is more than good enough to qualify tonight and I think Emmy is a good performer but there is something lacking in the performance as a whole for me. Think it's 50-50 as to whether it'll go through or not.

Yeah, that's a good point and I would be inclined to agree.

Judging from myself and a few of my friends, there will be people voting tonight that haven't followed closely the competition in the last few weeks and they will hear/see most of the songs for the first time tonight, so quite a bit of a "first impression" votes. In theory, Laika Party is quite catchy, a Europop type of song that 20-25 years ago (at the height of the genre's popularity) would have done extremely well. I wonder if it would be considered a bit out-of-date now.

On a separate note, I am from Greece and it's the first time in many years that I really like our song. The melody is a modern take on traditional Pontic music which I generally like. The lyrics make much more sense in Greek, and though the english translation is decent, they don't have the same impact, a bit of "lost in translation". The Greek diaspora has really connected with the song and the singer, Klavdia and I expect that Greece will take good votes from countries with large Greek communities (like Germany and UK). I'm not sure though if the song will generate a more general appeal and I won't be surprised if it doesn't qualify. In any case, I think it's the best song Greece has sent in at least 10 years.

I will be watching tonight and will be rooting for both my countries to qualify!!

I've managed to see the TV feed version of Emmy's performance in the dress rehearsak last night and will completely disagree with those who claimed it was underwhelming - it actually looks great on TV and Emmy is very telegenic on screen. I would have it down as a qualifier (and certainly when taking into account what went through on Tuesday evening).

Eurovoix's 'The Model' shared their final SF update, they have Emmy qualifying in 7th place

    Fingers crossed!

That actually sounds about right - 7th or so seems a good landing place for her in this semi.

The top ten looks almost bang on to me too. I think Serbia will probably sneak in ahead of Greece though. The song is terrible, but they'll get a guaranteed 12 from Montenegro and have never finished lower than 11th in a SF. They rarely miss out.

The fandom will be up in arms if (or when) Czech Republic and Denmark don't make it through. I've seen more than a few people trying to talk up Czech Republic as a potential top five or winner 🥴

Watched it online for the first time this year, great comfort not having to listen to Whelan talking rubbish.

Yeah, block voting will be key.

I think Greece will get high points from UK, Germany and Armenia, but probably needs 28-30 points from these three to be safe.

Personally I'd be shocked if Latvia doesn't make it, it's magical on stage.

I think Malta might be in trouble, by all accounts it was a bit of a mess last night and the recap clip for it sounds pretty bad. Also some of the visuals are pretty vulgar and could have the same affect as Olly last year.

I came across ads in YouTube also - the full song sometimes and just “vote #14” other times.

It would be a laugh if that campaign stuck and someone else was #14 on Saturday.

It’s not the spirit of the competition at all. A friend of mine in the US got a message to vote for Israel 20 times last year.

I had a look at Emmy's performance I get what the bloggers say but I thought it looked good. Anything could happen tonight....

What are people's predictions for how Ireland's televote points to go to tonight.

    Mine are;

    12 points to Lithuania

    10 points to Israel

    8 points to Finland

    7 points to Malta

    6 points to Australia

    5 points to Austria

    4 points to Denmark

    3 points to Latvia

    2 points to Czechia

    1 point to Armenia

I've heard that Lithuanian people are not particularly impressed with their entry and think it's average to poor - it's mainly the western 'fan' bubble who are raving about it. It might even be in a spot of bother and could miss out tonight.

I've heard from niamh kavanagh on the today show that tonight's votes will be public only, no juries so 🤷 anything could happen

Australia gave Ireland 12 points last year. Must be a good few Irish over there now.

    Edit: misread your post

Sandra should really be performing her 1991 number Canzione per Te during the closing credits!

She's ticking off the boxes…she's been a Eurovision singer, presenter and spokesperson. She needs to write a Eurovision song next to complete the set.

    IMG_6362 (for website).jpg

When Sandra was the Swiss spokesperson back in 1994, it was a rarity to see a former Eurovision performer act as spokesperson.

I've gotten multiple YouTube ads for it yesterday and today. Funnily enough at no point in the ad do they actually mention Israel. I haven't checked out many of the songs this year so I was curious as to who it was.

Seems like something that shouldn't be allowed. Nothing to do with Israel, just in general.

I think people have been writing off Latvia too easily for the last few months.

I've heard that Malta has been a mess alright. I've been convinced for a while that all three "smutty" songs won't go through…Finland is safe, with Malta and Australia fighting for the second slot. Malta did well out of all the controversy, but it doesn't feel like it has gained any momentum since rehearsals started and I think it could be in danger. Personally, I'd love to see Kant go home later.

I don't want Serbia to go through, it's really not a good song. It's pretentious and Princ is like Sam Ryder without the likability. Those 12 points from Montenegro might be nailed on, but that won't be enough, and I'm not sure the diaspora is strong enough to see Mila through. While Serbia has a great record in semi-finals, they've only scraped through the last two years, and both of those songs were much better than Mila.

Actually don’t mind the UK song, certainly one of the better songs we’ve sent in the last few years.

(Welsh Megaman remembers he’s on an Irish thread)

What I meant to say is, can’t wait to see them get zero televotes!

    Point and laugh, Nelson Muntz-style!

I always root for the UK, despite chuckling if they do poorly It hasn’t been easy the last few years Ollie bottled it last year and, was it Ellie May she was called?, the previous year hadn’t the greatest song I think they’ve a good song this time round but unfortunately it takes a few listens which isn’t maybe the best Hope the girl’s performances do it though Shamefully there’s nothing more Eurovision than Scooch’s Flying The Flag and that didn’t do overly well but it’s a classic IMHO
