There are indeed rules of war, but Russia is highly skilled at breaking those rules and then denying and deflecting blame. Putin has little left to lose at this stage and he's desperate for a win. Taking Zelensky out would solve a lot of his problems in one go.

I wouldn't necessarily disagree with you. But when the figure of 1,000,000 Russian dead is bandied about and taken as fact, then proven to be incorrect, it undermines every other claim against the Russians, whether that's reasonable or not. Just think of all the Putin apologists who pop up here posting links in support of claims which are quickly debunked… it's held up as a reason not to believe anything those posters say.

Over 1,000,000 - ONE MILLION! - dead and wounded, in a war that's only 3 years old and has achieved virtually nothing for the aggressor, is absolutely shocking in and of itself.

Looks like this offensive that started in mid April is picking up steam now the ground has dried out, with multiple advances of up to 5 km a day reported in multiple areas across the front the last few days.

Advances north of Toretsk and East of Pokrovsk looks like the start of another cauldron with the mass of fortifications south of Zoria looking like they will have to retreat in the coming days.

Early days but the 4 main objectives for this Summer could be Lyman which was ordered to be evacuated of civilians yesterday, encirclement of Pokrovsk, Konstantinovka, Siversk and the expansion of the buffer zone from Sumy to North of Lyman.

Ah, so Vlad doesn't turn up for the talks he proposed, so we need something else to fill the space. How about a return to one-sided battlefield reports designed to undermine supporting Ukraine?

Da Comraide! That is exactly what is needed.

I wonder if we'll also get a redux of how Ukraine started this war because of "NATO something-something Western Cabal™!". Gotta do something…Putin is looking kind of stupid right now…

They also try to distract from Putin’s diplomatic fuckup and the war on the ground grinding to a halt by straight up making conspiracy theories

That Million figure (980'000)approx, to be more exact) doesn't include the civilian dead/disabled figures due to medical illnesses that they are not being treated for because Putin has sucked the finances out of the health services to fund his war. These figures will be pretty big too.

The president of Brazil flew to Moscow to meet Putin with the wish of telling Putin not to be afraid of going to the talks in Turkey.

The president of Brazil was not allowed into the Kremlin.

The amount of russian tourists to Iran has increased by 300% in two years.

They seemingly are attracted by the low prices of housing, food and services and no conscription to fight in Ukraine.

Putin doesn't want peace based on his behavior. Weren't you and others previously parroting that line about Zelensky? But Putin pretty clearly isn't operating under good faith.

The elite presidential regiment of the FSB that guards the Kremlin and answers directly to Putin have been now sent to take Chasovy Yar.

Sources say that Putin doesn't need personal protection anymore and his assassination will be easier with those guys dead in Ukraine. Putin has retreated to his bunker in protest.

Predictably, Putin didn't show up for the talks that he clamed to want. Now the world waits for the response from Trump. I would love to see Ukraine armed to the teeth and for Russia to be denied any revenue from oil and gas. But more realistically, Trump is probably going to slink off and declare that he is tired of Ukraine and that he is walking away.

Ukrainians should offer Trump an opportunity to build a Trump tower in let’s say Bakhmut

I doubt Trump knows where it is or who occupies it, once he finds out he get angry and have to call Vlad

Trump just said he didn’t expect Putin to go as he wasn’t going anyway.

I have been saying since February that I believed these 'peace talk' initiatives were not serious and look at how it's played out.

I think one of the FSB's objectives with getting Kraznov to keep this nonsense going is the hope that it would slow and hinder foreign military aid being sent to Ukraine. Just the idea of there being a 'peace process' wafting on the breeze might be enough to make countries think twice about sending expensive military aid.

    I don't think it's working, though.

My suspicion / hope is that the "Peace talk" theater is being discounted as such by pretty much every government in Europe and any remaining non-MAGA pramatists in the US administration. Sure enough, you'll get plenty who are talking about contingencies for suggested peace plans, and peace-keeping forces; but in all likelyhood all planning is geared towards keeping Ukraine in the fight long enough for Russia to wear itself out.

There is also the possibility that in the future the Americans learn to re-screw their head to their collective asses and boot out this pro-Russia MAGA types. It's a fleeting possibility, but it's still there. If the Russian continue to fail to take Ukraine after several more years with Donnie messing up the US, can you just imagine how the Russians will feel if a grown-up US Administration came back in after all of that and threw their weight back behind Kiev?

EU have no bottle, May 12th was deadline for a seize fire, it came and went and they did nothing, it's laughable

…'''President Donald Trump suggests that significant progress in Ukraine peace talks is unlikely until he and President Putin meet in person.

As the pool reporter on board Air Force One, I asked Trump whether he was disappointed by the level of the delegation that Russia has sent to Turkey.

"Look, nothing's going to happen until Putin and I get together. Okay?" Trump says.

"And obviously he wasn't going to go. He was going to go, but he thought I was going to go.

"He wasn't going if I wasn't there and I don't believe anything's going to happen, whether you like it or not, until he and I get together, but we're going to have to get it solved because too many people are dying."

    What bull.

Trump is basically saying it's him that prevented Putin from showing up, by him pulling out and allowing Putin to have an excuse. Trump and Zelensky should have travelled there together, and when Putin didn't show call him out as a coward.

EU did apply yet another package of sanctions further tightening screws on Russian oil exports and dark fleet at a time when oil prices are falling

    That’s not nothing

Yup, as predicted. Trump simply lets Putin off the hook. After Putin spurns both Trumps ceasefire plan and his OWN SUGGESTED PEACE TALKS. Imagine the shite Trump would be posting if Zelensky had rejected going to these talks.

I really hope European leaders have come to the realization that Trump is never going to stand up to Putin. He's a weak little bitch bully.

The best possible case for Ukraine with the US right now in my mind is that they simply keep the sanctions in place and allow Europe to buy weapons for Ukraine with the confiscated Russian warchest. I'm really not sure why we're not already at that point. Anyone with half a brain can see that Putin has no interest in peace.

It will be soon enough just like the other 16 sanction packages that keep tightening the screws on the Putin regime and burning bridges to ever dealing with Russia again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,878 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

    Not quite.

Merz declared that he would give Russia a 24-hour deadline to cease hostilities. If this demand was ignored, he would push to supply Ukraine with Taurus long-range missiles, which would enable potential strikes within Russian borders.

That was days ago. Germany has now declared that future military aid to Ukraine will not be made public.

    Also very recently, Denmark:

Denmark will allocate €830 million from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation to finance the purchase of weapons from Ukrainian manufacturers.

This was reported by the official website of the Ministry of Defense of Denmark.

According to the agreement signed between Denmark and the European Union, the country will take the lead in distributing the proceeds of frozen Russian assets in 2025.

Telling porkies to the Orclings, how original.
