Btw sad fact - the aerobics dancer from that Little big's video passed away some time ago, he was only 29. His dancing alone would have won Eurovision :)

To finish my post from earlier. I have mixed feelings about the new qualifier announcement. From what I can see on social media, this particular split screen sent fans into a frenzy, as it meant a country considered unlikely to qualify had made it through:

Split screen showing Portugal, Azerbaijan and Slovenia.

Giving us a split screen like this, which no expected, was a great outcome.

The flip side of the coin is that you guess some of the qualifiers before the reveal. The producers said no country would appear in the split screen more than three times, so when Estonia appeared for the third time, it meant it was probably going through. And as I said earlier, why did they save Ukraine for last? It took away all the tension.

But the change still just feels like a change for the sake of change. I say, bring back the envelopes!

You should only be up on the split screen max twice imo. Either you qualify or you go into the 'Repechage' at the end for the last slot.

I thought the performance of Ne Partez Pas was really boring. Wasn't Celine supposed to be there? Maybe they were stand ins in case of a no show.

The show was absolutely awful from start to finish. The wooden unfunny presenters were terrible. The green room basket thing was so stupid and went on far too long. Is that girl meant to be a comedian? I would have rathered a recap or something else to fill the time. There was no cohesion in the show. The Swiss are a dull and boring nation if that's their idea of entertainment.

The highlights for me were Albania and Poland. I really hope either win as I'd love something different next year. Hoping Sweden don't win.

Yeah saw that on RTE website it was truly dreadful.

I think random ex-ESC contestants shouldn't be appearing on the big stage murdering old classics anymore.

A thing isn't what it says it is.

A thing is what it does.

I thought the Céline Dion tribute was done quite well, considering the singers chosen probably didn't have a huge amount of time to prepare, and that the song itself isn't really a natural fit for either Silvester Belt (too high for his range) or Marina Satti (too low for her range).

Collectively I think they held back somewhat to avoid belting it out and risk being out of harmony with each other, which I think is fair enough tbh; better to undersing it than oversing it.

Just in case anyone hasn't seen this yet…

I'd assumed it was a three-way split between first half, second half and producer's choice. I was wrong - it's 50% producer's choice, 25% first half and 25% second half. So what's the point any more of the draw? The producers obviously want to be 100% in control of the running order.

I thought, naturally I’d think, the four were homegrown Swiss recording artists brought on to cover the song. In fact they would have been better than 4 random contestants from previous years. I even had guess B as past Swiss Eurovision entrants, but how wrong I was. They had Celina appearing already. I’d have gone with a reprise of her 1988 performance I think. Whatever your opinion of her there’s no doubt she has an amazing voice. I thought the piece was nice but felt flat. Really it was something nobody asked for really. Mind you, given the blind presenters carry on in the green room later, maybe we caught a break really.

The reaction to Ireland in tonight's rehearsal is not great. Apparently it's quite low energy, and Emmy doesn't move around at all.

I think we're missing out unfortunately.

Well we'll be the 1st split screen for qualifying, its songs 1 ,2 and 3 then 4 5 and 6 etc , I seen isreal got great response in their rehearsals today :/ I feel it's just Ireland that are pro Palestine

So we would be up with Australia and Montenegro for first 'verdict'?

I'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. The camera shots show too much of the stage and not enough of Emmy but then again the bloggers said the same about San Marino and they Q last night. The song will have an audience but will we see if it is big enough to get us through. We have a lot of our traditional voting allies there so all is not lost.

From the clips I have seen it looks dreadful. Looked very weak and cheap. I'd say we will be NQ tomorrow.

No, the 3 countries are not selected based on running order so, for example, you could see Ireland, Georgia and Finland on the same spilt screen group

Ah right, I underestimated Eurovisions tendency to convolute things.

Yes and Australia will most likely get it and then we will have to be added a second time I'm guessing , I'll be shocked if it's us 1st time although they left Ukraine quite late yesterday thought they wouldn't get through but they did on the 2nd go

Apparently she stands in the same position on her prop for the entire performance which seems a very odd decision for any staging.

Too late to change anything now given everything has to be prepped right down to camera angles so it doesn't seem Ireland will be there on Saturday. Very strange choices observed from those who saw it.

Is that how it works? I thought it was in order first 3 countries on so on, whoops 🤭 my bad :/

I hope your wrong kermit , I'm just looking back at Portugal yesterday and even the Portuguese commentator was in shock too so for me glass is always half full ... of wine lol

Swapped Greece for Serbia, so these are my predicted qualifiers for tomorrow (bold print could go either way)

    Qualifiers:

    Austria
    Israel
    Lithuania
    Finland
    Malta
    Australia
    Armenia
    Luxembourg
    Serbia
    Ireland

    NQ:

    Czech Republic
    Denmark
    Greece

    Latvia
    Montenegro
    Georgia

I had Ireland as a sure qualifier throughout the season, now I have as borderline. Honestly it might be more wishful thinking at this stage, but the Czech and Danish songs are both very poor.

A few quick thoughts on last night:

Albania is fast becoming my favourite, thought they were spectacular. Maybe a contender to better Albania's best ever result?

I thought Claude was great for The Netherlands, there didn't seem to be any sign of the rehearsal worries.

I liked Sweden a lot, but for me it felt a lot less impactful than Melodifestivalen. Hopefully they won't walk it, and Saturday will be a closely contested battle

I'm so happy that Portugal made it. Nice to see there's room for a simple, well-executed song with a message behind it. I've seen a lot of embarrassing comments from a lot of Eurofans, "who's voting for this?!" etc. Not everyone has the exact same taste as them!

Really happy to see such positivity about the Swiss song, and that Zoe can deliver it live. I think she's likely a lock for jury top 5, but the televotes may be a struggle.

Italy was great as expected, think this will finish at least top 10 on Saturday

I'm still shocked about Belgium's NQ. Yes he wasn't actually pitch-perfect, and there were clear issues with the sound mix, but thought he did more than enough to make the final in a televote only semi-final. It was my second favourite of the night! Harsh for him to get knocked out on his 26th birthday too.

Roll on Semi-Final 2, and hopefully an Ireland qualification!

Is the Danish song, Hallucination? That’s a good song. Not sure re staging and performance as haven’t seen it yet,

We're sixth in the exit poll which is positive…but Belgium was sixth in the SF1 poll, and look what happened there.

Not much to be happy about when reading some (most) of the social media reviews of last night regarding Ireland, but then again, pretty of acts over the years have been mediocre in rehearsals, then they turned the sparkle on for the live shows. And, for the first time, I think I'm glad there's no juries in the semi-final, a weak performance last night won't affect Emmy's result.

I won't lie, I'm not confident. But if SF1 showed us anything, it's that the public are in a mood to surprise this year. Portugal was at the bottom of most people's qualifier predictions.

The major criticism that has come back from the SF2 rehearsals from all areas is that EMMY is too ‘static’, that she needs to get off the podium and move about, get to the front of the stage and engage with the crowd.

On the other hand, being static will allow her to focus more on the vocals. Still time to iron out any creases though.

Oh, and I'm starting to love Finland more and more. That is all. 🙂

Albania has really been building up momentum. It won't win, but it could match Suus as the country's best result. Conversely, it feels like Sweden is losing momentum. I still haven't seen all the SF1 performances, but some fans online said it somehow didn't come across as well as it did in Melodifest. Some are even saying it no longer sounds like a winner. Considering what we see at Melodifest is a ready to go Eurovision staging, it's odd that it doesn't seem to have translated well.

Perhaps KAJ are better at being underdogs?

Been rewatching some of the SF1 performances and listening to the studio versions for the first time.

Albania definitely my favourite of the 10 qualifiers, and it deserves a high placing on Saturday night.

Ukraine has grown on me; I didn't care for the chorus in the live performance but it sounds better on record. Hopefully his vocal holds up better in the final.

I want to like Portugal more than I do but it hasn't quite clicked yet. Something about the singer's demeanour during the live performance doesn't sit right with me; I can't quite explain it.

I still think Belgium should have qualified, even if the vocal was a bit rough.

I also think Cyprus should have made it but I understand a bit more why they didn't. I think they made a mistake with their staging in giving the singer too much to do: it started off cool with the Vitruvian man but as soon as it got to the first "Hush, hush...." bit, Theo should have had minimal choreography and be allowed focus on the vocals for the rest of the song; let the dancers do the heavy lifting.

I really don't like the Norwegian song and I'll be annoyed if it does well on Saturday, especially considering how Gåte undeservedly ended up with the wooden spoon last year.

I was on the fence about Croatia as his live performance was decent, but listening to the studio version it's clearer that the song just isn't good.

I'm always glad when Azerbaijan fail to qualify but their song would have actually been good with a different vocalist; his voice is just annoying, even on the studio version.

I really don't get Sweden at all. I hope it doesn't win.

I still haven't listened to any of the Semi 2 entries (including the Irish song) so look forward to seeing how that all goes tonight.

Looking forward to seeing the French staging tonight, finding out if the German singer can sing and if the Austrian singer can own the stage.

I’m not hopeful for Ireland especially if she stays stuck on the rocket thingy.

6 countries that won’t make it:

    Montenegro

    Ireland :(

    Armenia

    Georgia

    Luxembourg

    Serbia
